  1. With his strong interest in national affairs, 37-year-old Song Zhigang was glued to the TV news during the 2014 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. He not only learned all the latest information about the event, he was also inspired to write a song for Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan. Titled Xi Dada Loves Peng Mama, the song tells of the love between the couple, which goes "Xi Dada loves Peng Mama. Their love is like a myth. Peng Mama loves Xi Dada. A nation with love is the strongest".

When the song was released in an online video on Nov 18, it became an instant viral hit, which has been viewed over 40 million times and stirred hot discussion. Many netizens said it's sweet to listen to the song while seeing such photos, and some believe that the couple sets a good example for China's young couples.

Born in Zhengzhou, Henan province, Song works as an independent songwriter along with his team there, including singer-songwriters Yu Runze, Xu An and Wu Bai. Song says that he finished the lyrics within an hour and sent it to his team via cellphone. The team finished composing(作曲) that night. They also made the music video by themselves, which was the first time that they had ever produced a music video and uploaded it online. The video of the song contains 33 photos and 2 cartoon illustrations(插图) of the couple, displaying small interactive moments, including tacit(心照不宣的) eye contact between the couple and hand touching when the couple played a swing. Nine children between 4 and 12 years old were invited to rap and sing along with the team. "When I watched the couple appearing on TV, they seemed just like any other ordinary couple and I felt close to them. With some small sweet moments, I could feel the love between the couple," says Song.

"Xi Dada" and "Peng Mama" have both become Internet buzz words, referring to the Chinese president and his popular wife. Song notes that the couple has attracted worldwide attention and even what Peng wears becomes headlines.

Yu Runze, 32, is one of the singers and also comes from Zhengzhou. She says the team started to release songs online around four years ago, mostly pop love ballads(歌曲,歌谣). Though they could make ends meet by making music, they remained unknown before this song. "We didn't expect that the song would gain so much popularity online. People share the same feeling we have about the couple, which is warm and sincere," says Yu, who is a graduate of the Qilu Conservatory of Music, Shandong province, and has released five albums since 2006.

"We want to sing the song at 2015's CCTV Spring Festival Gala."

  2. Many kids don't drink enough water daily, according to a new study. The study's lead author, Erica Kenney, at first planned to look into the amount of sugary drinks kids were drinking in schools. However, during her research she found that many kids were simply not drinking enough water.

Kenney and her team examined data from a group of 4,000 children, aged 6 to19, between the years of 2009 and 2012. The data was taken from the National Health and Nutrition Survey,a study on the health of children in the United States conducted each year by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention..

While looking through the survey results, she noticed that more than half of the kids who took part in the study were dehydrated (脱水的). Of' that group, boys were 76% more likely than girls not to have enough water in their system. Nearly one quarter of the kids in the survey reported drinking no plain water at all.

“These findings highlight(突出) a possible health issue that wasn't given a lot of attention in the past," Kenney said in a statement. “Even though for most of these kids this is not an immediate and great health threat, this is an issue that could really be reducing quality of life and well-being for many children and youth."

The United States-National Agriculture Library says average kids need between 10 to 14 cups of water every day. This water can come from a mix of drinks and foods that contain high amounts of water, such as celery, melons or tomatoes. It is also recommended that fluids(液体)come from water instead of sugary drinks that are high in calories and can lead to weight problems.

1.What was Erica Kenney's purpose in doing the study?

    A. To study if kids drink enough water daily :

    B. To prove that sugary drinks are harmful to kids

    C. To show what kind of sugary drinks kids love.

    D. To find out how many sugary drinks kids drink at school.

2.According to the findings of Erica Kenney's study, we know that ________.

    A. school kids cannot find drinkable water easily

    B. boys are more likely to get dehydrated than girls

    C. sugary drinks are very popular with school kids

    D. most kids know the importance of drinking plain water .

3.From the last paragraph we learn that kids________.

    A. should drink plain water to lose weight

    B. can try to take in water from sugary drinks .

    C. can eat celery, melons and tomatoes for water .

    D. should drink no more than 10 cups of water every day

4.The text mainly tells us that many kids_____________

    A. don ' t like drinking water

    B. prefer sugary drinks to water

    C. are at risk of health problems

    D. don ' t drink enough water daily

  3. A machine that takes sweat-laden clothes and turns the moisture(分子) into drinking water is in use in Sweden. The device spins and heats the material to remove the sweat, and then passes the vapor through a special membrane(膜) designed to only let water molecules get through.

Since its Monday launch, its creators say more than 1,000 people have “drunk others’ sweat(h汗液)" in Gothenburg. They add the liquid is cleaner than local tap water.

The device was built for the United Nation's child-focused charity UNICEF to promote a campaign highlighting the fact that 780 million people in the world lack access to clean water.

The machine was designed and built by engineer Andreas Hammar, known locally for his appearances on TV tech show Mekatronik. He said the critical part of the sweat machine was a new water purification component developed by a company named HVR in collaboration with Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology.

"It uses a technique called membrane distillation(膜蒸馏)," he told the BBC."We use a substance that's a bit like Gortex that only lets steam through but keeps bacteria, salts, clothing fibers and other substances out."They have something similar on the International Space Station to treat astronaut's urine(尿液) - but our machine was cheaper to build. Volunteers have been sampling the treated sweat since the start of the week in Gothenburg .“The amount of water it produces depends on how sweaty the person is - but one person's T-shirt typically produces 10ml , roughly a mouthful."

The equipment has been put on show at the Gothia Cup - the world's largest international youth football tournament. MattiasRonge, chief executive of Stockholm-based advertising agency Deportivo - which organized the stunt(惊人的表演) - said the machine had helped raise awareness for UNICEF, but in reality had its limitations.

"People haven't produced as much sweat as we hoped - right now the weather in Gothenburg is lousy," he said."So we've installed exercise bikes alongside the machine and volunteers are cycling like crazy."Even so, the demand for sweat is greater than the supply. And the machine will never be mass produced - there are better solutions out there such as water purifying pills."

1.What can we infer from the passage ?_______.

    A. The water processed by the machine is cleaner than local tap water .

    B. The machine can help raise awareness of lacking water in the world .

    C. The machine is cheaper than the similar one on the International Space Station

    D. The amount of water the machine produces is roughly a mouthful.

2.What is the main idea of the fifth paragraph ?

    A. How the machine works.

    B. Who developed the machine.

    C. How the machine was invented.

    D. Why the machine was invented..

3.What does Mattias Ronge think of the machine?____

    A. The machine can solve the severe water shortage in the world.

    B. People do not like the water the machine processes

    C. The machine should be used in rather hot areas in summer.

    D. The machine is not worth popularizing.

  4. Scientists at Harvard University have recycled a kidney(‘肾)-in a rat. The researchers removed a kidney from a dead rat. Later, the renewed kidney was put into a living rat. It wasn't perfect. It did, however, show signs of working like a kidney should.

"It's really beautiful work," Edward Ross, a kidney researcher at the University of Florida in Gainesville, told Science News. He didn't work on the new study.

Kidneys are bean-shaped and act like guards in the body. They clean the blood by removing waste and extra water. Every day, an adult's kidneys filter(过滤) enough blood to fill a bathtub half full. Along the way, they produce eight cups of urine(尿) from that waste and water. When a person's kidneys fail, all of that waste stays in the body. Such patients can quickly become very sick and die, unless they are regularly connected to a machine that filters their blood.

At any given time, about 100,000 people in the United States are waiting for a replacement kidney. But healthy donated kidneys are difficult to get. Either a living person must donate one, or a kidney must be removed from someone who just died and earlier had agreed to the donation. In either case, people receiving new kidneys face the risk that their bodies will reject the donated ones.

But there may be another option. Researchers use knowledge of living things to grow or improve tissue that can aid human health. Harald Ott's team at Harvard started with a "used" kidney.

Scientists added kidney cells from rats and blood vessel cells from people to the matrix(母体). These cells attached themselves and began to multiply. Before long, they formed new kidney tissue.

The scientists placed this renewed kidney into another rat. There it produced a small amount of urine. This experiment shows that the lab-grown kidney can do at least some of the work performed by a healthy kidney.

The results are a promising first step toward helping people with serious kidney problems. "This is still very early, but they've come a long way," Ross said.

1.What can we infer from Paragraph l?

    A. Biology is a new and helpful science.

    B. It's hard to put the rebuilt kidney into the rat.

    C. Kidneys are very important to our life.

    D. A used kidney may be recycled for new life.

2.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?

    A. The relationship between kidneys and health.

    B. The difficulty of curing serious kidney diseases.

    C. The function and importance of kidneys.

    D. The methods of curing kidneys diseases.

3.For what purpose does the author use the figure 100,000 in Paragraph 4?

    A. To stress used kidneys are hard to get.

    B. To show the great need for healthy kidneys.

    C. To explain many American people get kidney diseases.

    D. To call on people to donate kidneys.

4.Which of the following is true according to the text?

    A. The scientists are satisfied with the result of the experiment.

    B. Ross is a kidney expert who is involved in the experiment.

    C. The function of the renewed kidney is the same as a healthy kidney.

    D. The renewed kidney produced a great deal of urine.

Today I’m going to talk about something about e-hongbao, that is becoming popular in China. E-hongbao is actual a kind of lucky money from and to relatives and friends during festivals or on some special occasion. For many young people, grabbing e-hongbao on their mobile phones is a fairly common and exciting activity. Unlike the tradition of elders give lucky money to their children, over half of the people sending e-hongbao is in their 20s. It’s just for fun, and the sum of money mattered little. In word, e-hongbao is bringing new color to the old tradition. Nevertheless, I’m interested with the safety of online payment. It’s hoped that whether rules and regulations should be improved about the e-hongbao system to guarantee their operation.
