  2. Have you ever heard that “success is a journey, not a destination(终点)” ?As a man aged 30, I believe it’s true. It is, in fact, my law of life(生活准则). In my eyes, what matters is not necessarily where you are at the end, but what you achieve while you are trying along the way. It means that no matter what, as long as you try, you can never fail. It means you can learn from your mistakes and continue on the journey a little wiser.

I think St. Louis Rams, a professional American football team in Missouri, as a whole shared my law of life. They played every game with their full potential (潜能) instead of letting a few winning games go to their heads. They had the goal of playing in every Super Bowl, a football game played in the US each year on the first Sunday in February. Even though they lost some games, they didn’t give up.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the ability to be on top in the end, to win the game, what matters is that you worked hard the whole time. You should understand that success is a non-ending journey. Everyone should realize that someone will win and someone will lose, but what’s important is that both sides need to try their best. After all, it’s not who wins or loses, but how well you play the game and you should remember this in your life.

1.What does the writer mainly talk about in paragraph 1?

    A. His biggest success B. His dream for the future

    C. His understanding of his law of life D. His achievements in the past few years

2.What does the underlined part “go to their head” mean in Chinese?

    A. 去领导办公室 B. 获得一等奖 C. 撞到头部 D. 冲昏头脑

3.What can we learn from the last paragraph?

    A. We should try to win every game.

    B. What should try our best whatever we do.

    C. We should understand the meaning of life.

    D. We should hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

4.What’s the best title for the passage?

    A. Take pride in your work B. Failure is good for you

    C. Everyone has a chance D. Success is not final

  3. “Do you want to come with me?” Kelly asked her brother, “I’m going to meet some friends at the bike course. We’re going to practice for the race next week.”

“No, thanks,” Marcus replied. He was sporty. Most sports were a piece of cake to him. He knew he would win.

When the race day finally arrived, Marcus and Kelly rode their bikes to the Oak Park Trails with their parents.

“My stomach feels like I ate some butterflies,” Kelly told Marcus when they saw the crowd of kids.

“Don’t worry. You’ll do fine,” Marcus said.

The starter shouted “Go”. Marcus quickly rode to the front. A few minutes later there wasn’t anyone ahead of him! Marcus raced along the trail. Time passed, and he was surprised that the course was so long.

His tired legs felt like they weighed a hundred pounds. All at once, a flash of color caught his eye. There was a line of bike riders ahead him! “How could this be?” Marcus said to himself as he pushed forward. “I must have taken a wrong turn,” he thought Marcus tried hard, but he realized his speed wouldn’t be enough this time and bike course was just as important.

After the race, Marcus saw his sister at the finish line, and he rode over to her. “Wow, you must have done a good job in the race. What place did you get?” Marcus asked Kelly.

“I came in third place. Mom and Dad said I would even receive a medal(奖牌)!” Kelly answered excitedly.

“That’s great! I came in ninth place. But I’ll do better next year because I’ll be smart enough to practice the course with you,” Marcus replied with a smile.

1.When Kelly said “My stomach feels like I ate some butterflies,” we know that she felt ______.

    A. excited B. surprised C. nervous D. angry

2.What does the underline word “this” refer to?

  4. The journey began this morning almost an hour later than I had planned, although I had completed my packing before eight o’clock. I was quite clear about the fact that once I left, my house would stand empty for the first time since the day it was built. It was a strange feeling and perhaps explains why I was leaving so late. I walked around the house many times over, checking to see that all was in order.

It is hard to explain my feelings once I did finally set off. As I drove further and further from the house, I found everything looked unfamiliar(不熟悉的) to me. I began to have a feeling of nervousness mixed with excitement. I took a turning and found myself on a road circling the edge of a hill. I could sense the steep(陡峭的) drop to my left. I felt a sense of alarm that I was perhaps not on the correct road at all, but speeding off in the wrong direction. It was only the feeling of a moment, but it caused me to slow down. And even when I was sure I was on the right road, I thought I had to stop the car for a moment to think carefully.

I stopped my car and walked out of it. On the one side of the road, small trees grew closely together, while on the other I could now see the countryside far away and a town nearby.

I waked a little way along the roadside, when I heard a voice behind me. Until this point I had believed myself quite alone and I turned in some surprise. Sitting on the large stone was a thin, white-haired man. He called to me again and gave me a sign to join him. For a moment, I took him for a homeless man, but then I saw he was just some local man enjoying the fresh air and summer sunshine.

1.Why did the writer set off later than planned?

    A. Because he checked the house again and again.

    B. Because he was feeling sad about leaving the house.

    C. Because packing his backpack took longer than expected.

    D. Because there was no one to help him get everything ready.

2.What caused the writer to start driving more slowly?

    A. He wanted to look at the beautiful hill carefully.

    B. He suddenly feared that he might get lost.

    C. The road became steeper and steeper.

    D. He realized he was driving too fast.

3.What can we infer about the white-haired man?

    A. He was surprised to see the writer. B. He greatly enjoyed being alone.

    C. He used to be homeless. D. He was a nature lover.

4.What does the passage mainly talk about?

    A. The writer’s purpose in starting the trip.

    B. The writer’s courage in traveling alone.

    C. The writer’s mixed feelings about his trip.

    D. The writer’s experience of driving on the hill.
