  2. The best thing to start your day is a good breakfast. “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a poor person”, as the old saying goes. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It provides us with energy after a long night without food.

If people don’t have breakfast in the morning, they will feel tired and get angry easily. Breakfast helps children stay focused in school. One study shows that children who keep eating breakfast get higher test results in most subjects. Breakfast is also important for losing weight. If you have a good breakfast, you will eat less throughout the day.

A healthy and balanced breakfast should include some protein like eggs, milk or a little meat. They give you energy. Carbohydrates (碳水化合物) like rice or bread can keep you active. Vegetables and fruit have the vitamins that humans need.

In China, breakfast is different from place to place. However, porridge, baozi, noodles, soybean milk and youtiao are common throughout the whole country. Although Western culture has influenced China a lot, most people still prefer a traditional Chinese breakfast. They think that porridge and noodles are not only easily digested (消化), but can also provide enough energy in the morning.

  3. How can you change negative ( 极其负面的) thoughts? Many people suggest thinking of something bright and happy. However, scientists from Queen’s University in Canada said that there might be another way: by walking like a happy person.

“It is not surprising that our feeling affects how we walk, but we want to see whether the way we move also affects how we feel,” explained Nikolaus Troje, the lead scientist, to The Independent.

Scientists believe that the way we remember emotional ( 情绪的) messages is affected by our mood. Those who feel sad remember negative information far more easily than positive messages, especially when the information is about them.

In order to prove(证明)this, Troje and his team watched 47 people walking on the treadmill (跑步机) by cameras. Half of the people were encouraged to follow a depressive walking style, while the other half moved like a happy person. Walking speed was kept the same for both groups.

Meanwhile, the scientists read out a list of positive and negative words, asking people to decide whether or not each word described them well. Afterwards, people were asked to recall as many words as they could remember.

As expected, those who followed a depressed walk recalled more negative words than those that walk in a happy manner.

This shows that our walk influences the way we deal with information. And the scientists believe that using a happy walking style could help with treatment for depression.

1.Scientists from Queen’s University think that we can change negative thoughts by .

A.remembering emotional messages B.thinking about a happy person

C.walking like a happy person D.hanging out with friends

B.47 people recalled all the words after walking.

C.47 people were asked to walk at different speeds.

D.Those who walked like a happy man recalled more positive words than those that followed a depressed walk.

4.According to the story, the scientists’ findings can help .

    A.treat depressed patients B.improve one’s acting skills

C.deal with memory loss D.encourage people to exercise

  4. Nowadays, it has grown into a habit for many people to put every thought online when anything unhappy happens. However, it is important for people not to express every little thought that comes in their heads. Here are some interesting explanations.

The problem with expressing our every thought and feeling is that they can often change quickly. I may be angry with someone at this time, but that feeling will be gone the next day. For example, when I finally drove home last night, I happened to find my neighbor had taken my parking place by mistake. I was quite mad then, so I let everyone know it by posting it on WeChat. But today, that feeling is completely gone. I am not angry at all.

Too many things take place in one day, so not every problem needs to be paid much attention to. What will happen if we still keep spreading terrible feelings online, even if the problem is not that important? Actually, it’s all right to let go of some problems.

Moreover, communicating with words doesn’t always work. For example, I have three children. Trying to correct their habits by speaking to them directly is almost useless. Instead, my husband and I try to lead by examples. Sometimes they learn from it, and sometimes they don’t. But in many situations, setting a good example works much better than simply talking.

What can people do if they have disagreement when getting along with others? There are always two choices: they can either argue, or they can just walk away. Arguing is often a waste of time while walking away protects you from saying something that you may regret later. Our goal is to use every one of our words to cheer others up. So always think carefully before speaking. This way, the world will be a more peaceful place.

1.It’s important not to spread every thought online because .

A.it changes fast B.every thought is very meaningful

C.speaking is more useful D.we are not free to say what we like

2.The writer uses her experience with her children to show that .

A.it takes time to communicate with others

B.correcting children’s habit by speaking is always useless

C.words don’t work in communication with children at all

D.setting good examples is the best way to teach children

3.From the last paragraph, we can infer that .

A.we should argue with people who disagree with us

B.the writer wants us to pay attention to our words

C.people can argue or walk away when they have disagreement

D.we are free to express ourselves and never regret

4.If we put the passage into 3 parts, which of the following is the best?

    (①= Para. (自然段)1; ②= Para. 2; ③= Para. 3; ④= Para. 4; ⑤= Para. 5)

    A.①; ②; ③④⑤ B.①; ②③④; ⑤ C.①; ②③; ④⑤ D.①②; ③④; ⑤

  1. We live in Bedford, a town near London. My father is a hard-working pilot, so he doesn’t have much time to look after us.

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night, when she made breakfast food after a long, hard day at hospital.

On that evening, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and terribly burnt biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed. Yet all my dad did were reaching for a biscuit, smiling at my mom and asking my brother and me how we had been doing at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him put butter on that biscuit and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I will never forget what he said, “Honey, I love burnt biscuits.”

Later that night, I went to kiss my dad goodnight and I asked him if he really liked burnt biscuits. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your mom is really tired after a hard day’s work. Besides, a little burnt biscuit could never hurt anyone. We have been married for 17 years. She always cooks for me. Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s hand, but put it in your own.”
