  1. With so many new songs coming out every month, it can be difficult to find the good ones. Luckily, Time magazine announced its Top 10 songs of 2019. Here we have picked out four for you. Perhaps it’s time to tune in.

    Old Town Road

Holding Billboard’s No. 1 spot for 19 weeks, the song Old Town Road by US rapper Lil Nas X was a hit in 2019. It’s a country music. But the song has qualities of many music types, including rap and pop. “Creatively, I think it’s always a good idea when there’s a mixture of many types, with cross-cultural conversations going on,” said US musician Tom Willett.

    Don’t Start now

Since releasing her first album in 2017, UK singer Dua Lipa is famous for her honey-smooth voice. But she wants to try more. In her latest song, Don’t Start Now, she adds an infectious disco sensibility. With lively and energetic vocal twists, “it’s a tune that celebrates independence and promises joy in the process,” noted The Times.

    Juice

If you feel blue and want to lift up your spirits, Juice may be one of the best choices. Sung by US rapper Lizzo, Juice is full of self-love and confident lyrics. She sings, “If I’m shiny, everybody goanna shine. I was born like this, don’t even gotten try.” Lollie King of Bustle wrote that the song “is sure to give you that much-needed confidence increase when you’re feeling low”.

    Happier

Marshmello can toast to being the No. 1 Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Artist as Happier with Bastille. Happier held the No. 1 spot on the weekly Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for the entire year, shattering the record, for the most weeks at No. 1 since the chart’s January 26, 2013 inception (开始). By the end of the 2019 chart year, Happier became only the third song in Billboard chart history, across all formats, to hit at least 60 weeks at No. 1.

  2. On Oct. 2, carpentry students from Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School(ET)in the United States were putting the finishing touches on a handicapped ramp(残疾人坡道)at Northeast Placement Services. It was a thing of beauty, leading from a deck outside one building to the entryway of the new Community Education Center.

Students started the project a year ago, in April. ET has a rotating(循环的)schedule-two weeks of academic work followed by two weeks of shop work(车间工作). For this ramp, some students were required to cut wood on a table saw. Others needed to cut a piece of deck railing to fill a gap. Department Head Jim Gallow moved among them, answering questions.

Their academic schedule made it difficult to finish the job very quickly. During the summer, work stopped altogether.

Senior Gabe Martel didn’t know he wanted to be a carpenter when he first arrived at ET. He soon found that the hands-on activity suited him.

“I knew I wanted a trade,” he said. “From day one, I thought carpentry was amazing.”

“There were a few tough people,” said Tristan Madden. “You have to learn to work with people.”

At the end of a job, there are just a few items to finish. Everyone else gets assigned clean-up duties.

Timothy Carpentier knew he wanted to be a carpenter since the sixth grade. He’d spent time working on projects with his father.

“I’d go to Home Depot when they taught things,” he said. “It was fun. Now, this is preparing me for the workforce”

“It’s rewarding to see what the students produce,” Gallow said.

The next project will be at the Brooklyn Fairgrounds, where students will rebuild a portion of the main stage. They’ll work through the winter months, unless it’s brutally cold.

“Like I tell them, you have to eat in the winter, too,” he said.

1.what do we know about ET’s project at Northeast Placement Services?

A.It took no more than one year to complete.

B.It is inside a building for disabled people.

C.Students designed it on their own.

2.What did Martel get from this project?

A.It helped him choose a career for the future.

B.It taught him to get along with people.

C.It prepared him for his dream job.

D.It taught him how to make a plan.

3.What was Gallows attitude toward the students’ product?

    A.Doubtful. B.Satisfied.

    C.Unconcerned. D.Disappointed

4.What does the underlined word “brutally” in the second to the last paragraph?

  3. Oindrila Basu from India, 25, is a key member of a global forestry organization. Back in her youth, she had to be taught the importance of nature. She used to destroy nests of the bulbul bird just for fun. Once, her mother caught her and forced her to find the eggs and replace the nest. With a heavy heart, the girl realized she had done something terrible.

This is just one way that Basu’s parents shaped her understanding and appreciation of nature. Living in the countryside, she spent her youth studying ants before a rain, watching sunbirds drink bottlebrush nectar, counting fireflies and watching seedlings grow. Then her parents decided to move to a nearby city with better educational opportunities and she stopped having firsthand experiences with nature.

As she struggled to choose a college major, her mother suggested a career in forestry. That’s when her journey began and she fell in love with forestry. Away from the crowded concrete cities, in the lap of the Himalayas, she got her bachelor’s degree in forestry from Kumaun University, India. When she went on to study for a master’s in forestry from the Forest Research Institute, India, she finally got introduced to a like-minded group of people, devoted to the same cause-the International Forestry Students’ Association(IFSA).

IFSA is a global organization connecting students to exchange knowledge and participate in forestry activities. The youth joining IFSA are encouraged to undertake its mission-to enrich forest education and spread a love of nature through events and intercultural exchanges.

After six months of exciting international conferences and workshops, Basu, found her home-a family that loved forests as much as she did. She felt rejuvenated(重生的); her passion had a direction. Now she wanted to do more.

Now with the IFSA, Basu recalled her experience of joining, “On purpose or by chance we chose forestry, or rather, forestry chose us”.

1.What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?

A.Basu fell in love with nature when she first saw bird nests.

B.Basu didn’t go to school when she lived in the countryside.

  4. Our smartphones are amazing, but our connections can be so slow. The future in sci-fi movies seems so close, yet so far away. 5G technology makes that future look easily achievable. Schools, hospitals, transportation, factories- even our homes will soon use this powerful wireless network. Read on to see the ways 5G will change our world.

The initial hype(宣传)around 5G seems to be all about phones. Last year, China started testing 5G mobile networks and the Hongkou district of Shanghai was the first to implement(实行)a 5G network.

But 5G has the ability to transform more than just phones. It has huge influences for robots, cars, health devices, retail and nearly every industry you can think of.

5G is the latest generation of cellular network technology. It is faster and more stable than 4G, the previous generation. The benefits of 5G come mostly from its speed and connectivity. The advantage of higher speeds is fairly obvious-people will be able to browse the internet and watch videos at a much greater speed than before. Imagine being able to download an entire movie in just a few seconds!

But speed brings other advantages that might not be so apparent. While there are many challenges in developing driverless cars, one of the biggest technical problems is latency, which refers to the delay between sending a signal and receiving it. Driverless cars will need to be able to react nearly instantly to sudden changes in their environment. This will require these cars to process huge amounts of data within milliseconds.

So what about connectivity? 5G will allow us to develop “smart” environments. Imagine having a smart home that automatically turns the lights on when you open your front door.

No matter where it is implemented, it looks like 5G will bring us a more exciting and convenient future.

1.Who will possibly benefit most from 5G first?

A.People living in the city. B.Telecom equipment resellers.

    C.Driver. D.Businessmen.

2.What is special about 5G according to the text?

    A.It has replaced 4G completely.

B.It has been used in every industry.

C.It was firstly developed in China.

D.It has a faster speed and a better connectivity than 4G

3.What can we infer about driverless cars in paragraph 5?

A.They will be driven by robots.

    B.They have no weaknesses.

C.They will react immediately with the help of 5G.

D.They don’t need to analyze lots of data.

4.What is the best title for the text?

    A.5G- The best choice B.Differences between 4G and 5G

C.5G- Changing our life D.Driverless cars -A new trend
