  1. What do you do for fun in your spare time? Do you like reading? Do you often go to a book store? There is a store that is so different from others.

The World’s Smallest Bookstore, whose official name is just these three words, sits quietly about 100 miles northeast of Toronto.

The bookstore is about 10 feet by 10 feet, so it is easy to imagine how tiny it really is. The bookstore is open 24 hours a day. Inside the bookstore are various books, especially literary books and classic authors’ works. So if you are looking for something less popular, you may get a bit disappointed there.

Another special feature of this bookstore is that each book only costs three dollars. All the expenses are paid on the honor system, which means buyers should make a note of what they’ve bought and leave their money by themselves. So the tools of the trade in this bookstore are quite simple: pens, papers, light bulbs and a label-maker.

In order to catch passers-by’s attention, the billboards (广告牌) of the bookstore are several times bigger than the store itself. With these large eye-catchers, many people are willing to stop by and have a visit.

    1.What’s the passage mainly about?

    A. A strange way of selling books.

    B. The popular bookstores in the world.

    C. The world’s smallest bookstore.

    D. The popular books nowadays.

2.Which of the following books might you most probably get in the store?

    A. Books on less popular science.

    B. Books on economic control.

    C. The year book of a university.

    D. Literary books.

3.How could you buy a book from the store?

    A. Choose the book(s) and leave the money there.

    B. Pay on the net and then get the book(s) in the store.

    C. The salesman will help you find the book.

    D. The salesman will get the money for the book.

  2. People often go to cafes to relax themselves and keep themselves from falling asleep, but Mr. Healing, a popular cafe chain in South Korea actually does the opposite. Customers can come in, order a drink, lie down a comfortable massage(按摩)chair, and take a nap.

Many Koreans suffer from a lack of sleep as a result of overworking, so any opportunity to relax and even take a nap is greatly appreciated. Mr. Healing is the perfect place to go when you’re on a short work or school break and you need to catch up on sleep. The cafe offers massage periods in various modes, depending on how much time you have and how you choose to spend it.

The 20-minute session is priced at $ 3.5, the 30-minute massage costs $ 7, and the 50-minute session is $ 9, all of which also include a drink. Once you make your choice, you are taken to the “healing center”. You are asked to take off your shoes as well as any jewelry that might damage the chairs, after which you can choose a massage mode, from “stretch” or “sleep”. You can start with stretch for a few minutes, and then switch to sleep if you want to take a short nap. After it comes to an end, you are taken back to the cafe area to enjoy a coffee or one of the many other refreshing drinks on the menu.

Mr. Healing cafes are so popular in Korea that customers are advised to make reservations in advance to be sure that a massage chair is available. “I have to sit on a chair and stare at a computer monitor all day due to my job, the healing room was truly effective to relieve tiredness and stress from weekdays,” said Park Hye-sun, a 24-year-old officer.

Some have described Mr. Healing and other similar cafes in South Korea as simple fashions, but others see them as a sustainable business model, because they offer a service that Koreans really need.

1.Why do customers come to Mr. Healing?

    A. To have themselves checked. B. To rest for a while.

    C. To drink specialty coffee                  D. To sleep before work.

2.What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?

    A. The price of the service. B. The choices for customers.

    C. The process of the service. D. The tips for customers.

  3. Do you worry about entering senior high school? Everything, from study to environment, has changed. Can you adapt yourself to it?

You’re not alone. Remember that everybody else in your year is in the same boat. You may not notice it, but they’re just as nervous as you are.

Moving to senior high school is a chance, not a problem. Things are different, and all you need to do is to be polite and learn the new rules.

Indeed, if one looks at the facts about the amazing reach of the English language, he or she would be surprised. English is used in over 90 countries as an official or semi-official language. 七选五 共 1 题
  1. In your life, sometimes you may be asked to speak in front of a large group of people. Although it sounds a little scary, even those with stage fright can speak successfully to the group with adequate preparation.

Practice your speech before the big day. 1. If possible, practice the speech in front of a friend or family member to get used to saying it to real people. If you feel you must have note cards, limit the amount to about three cards. This will force you to keep your speech concise and help you keep your eyes focused on your audience.

Remember why you’ve been invited to speak. If you’re battling fear over speaking to a large group of people, keep your mind on the fact that you were selected for this important role. The speech organizers must have seen something valuable in you or your expertise. 2.

Remember that fear of public speaking is very common. 3. Most of the people in the audience would be feeling the same fear and stress that you do in your position. Knowing this may make you feel better.

    4. What you say should be tailored to why you’re there and who you’re speaking to in order to avoid sounding general. If speaking to a charity group, mention the good work certain specific individuals have done for the cause. If speaking at a business conference, briefly state why you want to help these people.

Keep eye contact with the crowd. 5. Pick one person in each section and look at him while you’re speaking. After each important point in your speech, switch your focus to another section. When you focus only on one person at a time, the size of the crowd isn’t as frightening.

A.A good memory is really helpful.

    B. Show appreciation to your audience.

    C. Mention your audience in your speech.

    D. The more you have it memorized, the better.

    E. In fact, it’s normal to feel nervous or stressed out before a big speech.

    F. Separate the crowd into three sections mentally as you get up to speak.
    G. The knowledge of other people’s respect for you should reduce some of the fear.
