Audiences who are present at music festivals often do not think about the work behind the scenes. There are many factors (因素)when organizers want to create a successful festival of any type. They have to make efforts to organize the music festival. They must spend a large amount of money bringing in popular artists, and the event must have excellent advertising. Once a site is chosen, it is often a space that is rented. Organizers must also take parking and crowd control into consideration when large audiences are expected to attend.
As a whole, a successful music festival combines all the necessary parts into a series of events that attract the audience. If any one part of the festival brings in a large number of complaints, it is not successful and the number of audiences will be down both that year and the following year. This is one of the reasons why organizers work hard to make sure every part of a festival functions as flawlessly as possible. They want people to take away great memories so they will attend the festival the next year and continue to do so. Organizers have long recognized this fact and take the time to find out what their audiences want. They recognize changes in audience moods and values. This allows their festivals to continue growing by satisfying their specific audiences.
The growth of many music festivals has caused organizers to seek out more modern musicians. Organizers don’t choose musicians that only perform for small crowds. Musicians, such as electric violinists or saxophone players, are more able to handle larger crowds who require amplified (放大的)music. Their ability to deal with technical aspects of greater sound production makes them popular with organizers. These musicians are also popular with large crowds who appreciate their ability to produce beautiful sound in the musical genre (流派)of the festival.
1.What does a successful music festival need?
A.Control of the number of audiences.
B.Money to buy a site.
C.Experienced audiences.
D.A great deal of organizers’ effort.
2.What does the underlined word "flawlessly" in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Perfect. B.Crazy. C.Quick. D.Limitless.
3.What kind of musicians will be popular with the organizer of a music festival?
A.Those who are members of a band.
B.Those who like performing for small crowds.
C.Those who can play the latest popular music.
D.Those who have the ability to handle larger crowds.
4.What can be the best title for the text?

Are you fed up with staring at a computer screen for hours straight just to review your classes? It’s a problem that many of us encounter(遭遇).So why not pick your headset and learn via a podcast?
Podcast, or boke, refers to a range of audio programs on different audio platforms. According to China Daily, podcasts have become popular among young Chinese people who would like to enjoy the peace and power of learning through sound.
Established in 2012, China’s largest online audio platform, Ximalaya saw its subscribers pass 600 million by December 2019.Among these users over 46 percent were born between 1990s and 2000s.On average, active users listen to podcasts for nearly three hours per day.
The emergence of domestic(国内的)online radio platforms and the convenience brought about by smart devices are certainly two reasons for the popularity of the format. Its flexible nature also makes it a winner among the young audience.
“Audio is a good medium for content that can break the limit of time and space,” Jiang Feng, vice-president of Ximalaya, told China Daily. He added that podcasts have become an important channel for people to acquire information and knowledge .It also can accompany listeners in many different circumstances including working ,studying, exercising, traveling and just before going to bed.
Apart from providing company, the new media form also gives people a platform to speak out about important issues.

He talked about the pressure he faced on an audio program called Please Listen, launched by Mango TV on Feb 19,2020.The program was designed to relieve audiences’ worries by sharing their own stories.
Podcasts tend to be a discussion, and just like real life conversations, they follow a flexible structure and usually last for at least an hour. More often than not, you can’t summarize two or three important points from those conversations, like you could from articles. They often do not have conclusions, either. It’s a very freeform medium that is very friendly to listeners,” Pan Aijuan,a podcast listener and book editor at a publishing house, told China Daily.
At the same time, the use of podcasts trains people to first listen to others before offering one’s own opinions. It helps build up our patience and listening skills. Cheng Yanliang, a co-founder of the podcast Left and Right, stated that“ audio programs can filter(减缓)those bad-tempered people who would lose patience after reading several paragraphs and start writing awful comments to insult others”.
With such advantages,“ podcasts are entering the mainstream(主流)in China”, noted China Daily.

The Torch Festival is a traditional festival celebrated among some ethnic groups in southwestern China, such as the Yi, Bai, Hani, Lisu,Naxi,Pumi and Lahu, etc. It usually falls on the 24th or 25th of June, with three days of celebrations. The origin(起源)of the festival may have something to do with the worship of fire by ancestors(祖先),who believed fire had the power to drive away insects and protect crop growth. For some ethnic groups,it’s a tradition in the festival for elders to share farming experience with young people and educate them on taking care of crops.
During the festival, big torches are made to stand in all villages, with small torches placed in front of the door of each house. When night falls, the torches are lit and the villages are bright. At the same time, people walk around the fields and houses, holding small torches and placing the torches in the field corners. Inside the villages, young people are singing and dancing around the big torches that keep burning throughout the night. Other activities like horse races, bullfights, etc. are also held during the festival.
In a horse race of the Yi people in Yunnan, torches are used to form hurdles(栏架) for riders to get through. The Hani people in Yunnan traditionally attach fruits to torches with ropes. When the ropes are broken after the torches are lit, people struggle for the fruits for good luck.
For the Lisu people in Sichuan, the festival is an occasion for holding grand torch parades. Big torches are carried by the procession(队伍), which is like a fire dragon. If several processions from different directions meet, it’s a tradition to exchange the big torches with one another.
