Don't be too concerned about money, because all it will do is distract you from achieving happiness. And the irony is that people think they will be happy when they have money. 1.. If you are happy and you have money, you can use it for happiness. If you are unhappy and you have money, you will use that money for more unhappiness. Because money is simply a neutral force.
Don't misunderstand me: 2.. I am not against anything. Money is a means. Your money will enhance your pattern, whatever it is good or bad.
3.. They are ready, at any moment, to change their pattern, to change their ways, if more money is available somewhere else.
Once the money is there, then suddenly you are no longer yourself; you are ready to change.
This is the way of the worldly man. Remember, I don't call a person worldly because he or she has money. 4.. This applies to people with no money as well-they may simply be poor. Just being poor does not equal to being spiritual; and just being rich does not equal to being a materialist. The materialistic pattern of life is one in which money predominates over everything.
The non-materialistic life is one in which money is just a means: happiness predominates, joy predominates, your own individuality predominates. 5., and you are not distracted.
Then suddenly you will see your life has a meaningful quality to it.
A.I am not against money.
B.However, money has nothing to do with happiness
C.So they attach great importance to money
D.You know who you are and where you are going
E.Money brings great joy to people who pursue it
F.I call them worldly if they change their motives for money

How do you get yourself to take action now? Here are some powerful suggestions.
Focus intensely on the positive things that your actions will accomplish. 1. Whether it's something you're seeking to accomplish, or something you're seeking to be rid of. picture exactly how your life will be after the work is done. The more intensely you can imagine it, the better.
2. The only real reason you have for avoiding action is because you associate some kind of pain or discomfort with it. Therefore, it helps to associate something even more painful with not taking action. Instead of focusing on the relatively minor pain of taking action, focus instead on the major pain of not taking action.
3. Think of all the reasons you can come up with to not take action, and then destroy all those reasons with a single word —"But." Simply state the excuse, put the word "but" after it, and then finish the sentence. For example, “I’ve never done this before, BUT I can learn." Stick the word "but" in there, and challenge yourself to finish the sentence.
Take the first small step. Don't even concern yourself with committing to the whole project or course of action. Just do something very easy and very small. The point is to find a little momentum(动力)4. Then climb aboard the momentum train, and let it help you keep the effort going.
Make it fun. Realize that just about anything can be fun if you'll think of it as fun and enjoyable. Find a way to make something fun, and not only will you want to do it; you'll also be better at it. 5.
A.You always choose what to do,
B.Lay all your excuses out on the table and deal with them.
C.In your mind, picture in great detail what your actions will bring you.
D.Whatever you must do to achieve success, find a way to enjoy it.
E.Focus on the negative things that will happen if you don't take action.
F.Getting started with your biggest task or most difficult action may seem too much.
G.Once you take that small action, let yourself fully enjoy how great it feels.

May 14 marks the beginning of National Smile Month in the UK. The campaign is organized by the Oral Health Foundation to promote(普及) dental(牙齿的) health. The Foundation hopes that a month of smiling across the nation will make people think about the importance of brushing their teeth regularly, cutting down on sugary foods, and making regular appointments with the dentist.
The British, in fact, have a reputation for bad teeth. The Internet's Urban Dictionary has an entry(条目)for “ British Smile”, defining it as “Any smile with bad teeth”. On the other side of the Atlantic, however, the “Hollywood Smile” gets its name because American movie stars are so proud to show off their sparkling beautiful teeth.
But what about smiling in the UK in general? Do the British smile a lot, or do they look sad all the time? It's said that the British practice the “stiff upper lip”, meaning that they don't often show their emotions; they neither smile nor cry. But this is false: A British person likes to smile as much as anyone else.
As far as smiling in Britain is concerned just like everywhere else, it all depends on the situation. For example, you wouldn't expect anyone to smile at a funeral(葬礼). But if you were at a party of any kind, you'd find everyone smiling from ear to ear. However, smiling is sometimes not allowed under some circumstances(情形). For instance, since 2005 Britain hasn’t allowed smiling in passport photographs. At other times, for example at work and school, you simply smile when it's natural to smile.
So the British are no more and no less likely to smile than anyone else. But smiling is good for you, no doubt about it, even if you do have a few bad teeth. And smiling is good for those around you too. This alone makes National Smile Month a great idea. As the essayist William Hazlitt wrote, “A gentle smile, a kind word, a good-natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles”.
1.Why is National Smile Month held in the UK?
A.To promote the health benefits of smiling.
B.To build a more friendly society through smiling.
C.To attract people's attention to dental health.
D.To teach people how to protect their teeth.
2.What does the underlined word “sparkling” refer to?
A.aging B.loose
C.smelly D.shining
3.What can we learn from the article about smiling in the UK?
A.People can’t smile when taking passport photos.
B.British people are less likely to smile than others.
C.People are encouraged to smile all the time at work.
D.British people often hide their true emotions with a smile.
4.What does the author think of National Smile Month?
A.It lasts too long. B.It is a wonderful event.
C.It fails to achieve its purpose. D.It should be promoted around the world.

Dear Sir,
I am writing in reply to your article about homelessness in Ledchester as it raises questions about whether or how we should give money to charity.
There are now so many chances to give to charity in the UK these days that it can be difficult to know what is best to do. As your article said, if you go shopping in Ledchester city centre, there will be many chances to give money to charity, or to homeless people who look poor, tired and cold, but the solution is not as easy as you seem to think. Can I be sure that the person won’t spend the money on alcohol(酒) or drugs? You seem to have forgotten the research which showed that 9 out of 10 people begging on the street spend the money they are given on alcohol and drugs. Also, can I be sure that the person isn’t one of those “professional beggars” who simply pretend to be homeless and poor?
I think a more effective way to give money is to buy things in one of the many charity shops in Ledchester such as the Oxfam shop. This isn’t really charity as you are buying something, but you know the money is going to a good cause.
In recent years, as we all know, there have been a lot of big events organized to raise money for charity. Many will remember “Live Aid”. Lots of famous bands got together to hold a concert and make a record with all the money going to Ethiopia because of the food shortages there. The BBC also has a “Children in Need” day every year. In one sense you could say that these events are very successful as they raise a lot of money. However, I don’t believe that these events solve the real problems. In my view, these events just allow people to feel good about themselves for a day and then forget about charity and problems in the developing world for the rest of the year. My wife and I decided to support a child. We give a certain amount of money every month and this goes to pay for the education of a girl in Ethiopia. I would encourage your readers to support a child too. We don’t know if it is the best way to help, but at least it is something.
Yours faithfully,
Tom Blinson

Opera for Beginners
Many people think that opera is boring, difficult to understand and unpleasant to listen to. They only see strange people singing in a foreign language and wearing funny costumes. They're too quick to judge and a lot of people have believed stupid ideas about opera without ever actually seeing one. If one takes opera seriously, with an open heart, and goes to several good live performances, I don't see any reason why he or she would dislike or hate it. The following tips can help you learn to enjoy opera.
First of all, if you are new to opera, start with a short, well-known title, such as The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart. In the beginning, avoid difficult operas with complex storylines. If your first experience is not fun, then you will expect all operas to be boring. Moreover, before going to a performance, do a little bit of homework: learn the story of the opera. If you know about the main characters and the story before you start watching, it will be much easier to understand what is happening on the stage. Finally, the most important way to enjoy opera is to keep an open mind. If you believe that you will enjoy watching opera, then you will most likely enjoy it. Think of opera as a live TV show. Opera shows the same things—love and hate, good and evil and humans and nature—that are found in many of today's popular movies and best-selling novels. In fact, many of these movies and novels use stories copied from famous operas!
Opera is full of catchy, wonderful melodies (旋律). It's full of drama and laughter. It's full of wonder and life. Opera can be fun to watch, and it allows the audience to experience different cultures. Many people have enjoyed it for hundreds of years, and by following the tips above, you can enjoy it, too. Indeed, opera will change the minds of the people who once hated it. And most importantly, as one of the most diverse art forms out there, opera helps you appreciate different performance styles from all over the world.
