阅读理解 共 3 题
  1. I first began experiencing anxiety and depression at age 14 after being bullied at school for years. While at first anxiety and depression would come and go, it eventually became constant part of my life.

I was so set on finding the solution to overcoming it that I tried everything from which I was in college to graduate school: mood-changing medication, special teas, yoga, think I read about in books, and advice given by doctors. Despite this, I still felt I hadn’t even come close to managing the problem.

But one afternoon, I spotted an article in a magazine talking about how dogs were all to help people with anxiety and depression. The next day, I managed to get a dog — corgi (柯基犬).

However, once the “puppy excitement” went away, my anxiety and depression came back as usual. One morning, I woke up with those familiar feelings again. I didn’t want to get out of bed. I turned to pull the covers back over my head and give up. That’s when I saw my pet—Buddy.

Buddy started jumping all over me, licking (舔) my face, and letting me know that it was time to go outside. It was as if he were saying, “There’s no time to be sad! The world is amazing!” And for the first time in my life, on a day when my anxiety and depression were strong, I got out of bed. I put on my winter clothes and went for a walk in the snow with my new friend. I realized at that moment, walking down the street in winter , my life was changing. I really was a new girl.

Sure, I still have days when I feel down or anxious. But with Buddy by my side, I’ve finally learned how to manage these feelings and emotions.

1.What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?

    C. The author began to have mental problems after college.

    D. The problem-solving ways the author tried didn’t work.

2.How did the author know having a dog might help with her depression?

    A. A doctor recommended it to her.

    B. She read it in an article by chance.

    C. She found it out herself after keeping a corgi.

    D. She heard it from some other depression sufferers.

3.What is the author’s attitude towards his problem now?

    A. Optimistic. B. Anxious. C. Confused. D. Doubtful.

4.What can be the suitable title for the text?

  2. Rise and Fall of Britpop

    What Is Britpop?

That’s a good question. Some may say it is a kind of pop music. You can often tell a Britpop song when you hear it. However, bands like Oasis are considered “Britpop” but their style is more rock than pop.

So how do we recognize the difference between Britpop and rock or pop?

Well, Britpop mixes a number of different pop and rock styles with interesting words, stories and attitudes. But it’s not just about the music."Britpop is also about fashion, art and politics.

    Fashion and Art?

Yeah, if you watch the music videos you’ll see how fashionable Britpop singers were. Some of them also hired famous artists to help them make some pretty creative videos. Damien Hurst, for example, produced some of Blur’s music videos.

    You Said Politics Too?

Yes. At one point the UK’s political leader, Tony Blair, talked about how much he enjoyed Britpop. Perhaps he was just trying to sound cool to win some extra votes from young people.

So When Did It All Begin?

Britpop came and went in the 1990s. Some of the main bands included Oasis, Blur, Suede and Pulp. These bands had some big hits at the time. Blur and Oasis had a big battle to be the most popular band.

What Happened to Britpop in the End?

It died out. I mean, by the end of the 1990s it was no longer fashionable. Fewer songs were produced and most Britpop bands broke up.

1.What’s the style of Britpop according to the text?

    A. It’s a kind of pop music.

  3. Dear Basketball

    From the moment

I started rolling my dad’s tube socks

    And shooting imaginary

    Game-winning shots

    In the Great Western Forum

I knew one thing was real:

I fell in love with you.

    —Kobe Bryant (Dear Basketball)

    The New Gorgeous Starting

Kobe Bryant has a real shot to add Oscar-winner to his extensive resume at 2018 Academy Awards with his short animated film Dear Basketball.

The retired Los Angeles Laker talked about the nomination and how his six-minute short film came together. He said that he loves “storytelling every bit as much as I love Basketball”.

But as Kobe Bryant has taken on a number of different projects after his retirement from basketball, he explained what being nominated for Hollywood’s top honor feels like:

“I’ve always been told that as basketball players the expectation is that you play. This is all you know. This is all you do. Don’t think about handling finances. Don’t think about going into business. Don’t think that you want to be a write- that’s cute. I got that a lot. What do you want to do when you retire? ‘Well, I want to be a storyteller.’ That’s cute. This is... a form of validation for people to look and say. ‘OK, he really can do something other than dribble and shoot.’”

What he seems to be saying is that the feeling of winning an Oscar —something so unexpected for an NBA legend—is crazier than what he felt winning rings, something he spent years focusing on in a craft (职业) he’d been working hard at.

(An extract from Kobe Bryant: Great Man Shall Never Retire)

1.Where would you be most likely to find the text?

    A. In a poster. B. In a newspaper.

    C. On a notice board. D. In a finance report.

2.The underlined part “The New Gorgeous Starting^’ refers to the fact that Kobe Bryant .

    A. has said goodbye to his basketball

    B. has won an Oscar for his Dear Basketball

    C. won many champion rings as an NBA legend

    D. has undertaken many projects after his retirement

3.Why does Kobe Bryant seem to feel crazier winning an Oscar?

    A. He has managed to challenge people’s traditional beliefs.

    B. He has spent many years fighting for the splendid award.

    C. He loves making animated films more than he does basketball.

    D. He has lived up to people’s expectations of basketball players.

    Ignore it
