  3. You're searching the Internet and find a website with interesting articles. Some are news stories. They are for sharing information. Others only look like news stories. They're actually advertisements ( 广 告 ). They are there to get you to buy something. How do you tell the difference between a news story and an advertisement?

My research team showed teenagers the home page of a popular digital magazine (电子杂志 ). We asked them to show us a news story and an advertisement. Most were great at finding advertisements. So where did kids find it more difficult?

Some advertisements seem to be very similar to real news stories. They have headlines. But they may also have the words sponsored information. Sponsored means "paid for", and the information is the story. "Sponsored information" is a way of saying that something is an advertisement. It means someone paid money for it to be there. Most kids in our study, even if they used the Internet often, didn't know this.

As a reader, you need to look carefully. Sometimes, the advertisements are in very small letters. The Internet is a big sea of information. To use it well, we not only have to know how to swim but also how to avoid the sharks. Learning to tell the difference between an advertisement and a news story is important to be Internet smart.

"What a nice place!" said the man. "May I come in and rest ( 休 息 ), dear children?" The children brought him in gladly and set him on the seat. They made like a throne (宝座). "It is our playground!" They said, "We made it pretty for the King, but he did not come, and now we mean to keep it so for ourselves. 1. Friendship between animals sometimes seems stronger than that between men. In France, a man had to move to a new place. He had a dog and a cat, and 他爱他们两个。But he thought that the cat would like to stay in the same house with new owners. So he moved and took only the dog.

About three weeks later, the dog was suddenly lost. For several days, the man looked for his dog, but didn't find him. Then, seven weeks later, the dog came back but he was not alone. The cat was by his side. They were tired and hungry after their long trip. And they never left each other again.

Another story is about goldfish. We usually think fish are cold-hearted, but sometimes we may be wrong. 一个朋友得去另一个国家去工作。 So I took her pet goldfish and put it in a bowl with mine. They two lived together for six months. When the friend came back, she tookher fish home. Then, I found my goldfish act differently. It hit on the side of the bowl. The next morning he died. Later that day, my friend called to say that her goldfish died, too. Did they die becausethey were sad? I believe so.
