  3. Gary Oldman is like the English version of Leonardo DiCaprio. They are both actors who are "underappreciated(未受到充分赏识的)". DiCaprio didn’t win his first Oscar until 2016 at the age of 42. Oldman finally got his first Oscar at the age of 59 on March 5.

He took home the Best Actor award at the 90th Academy Awards. He won the award for his performance as former British prime minister Winston Churchill(温斯顿·丘吉尔)in the movie Darkest Hour. Many believe that Oldman personality reproduced Churchills appearance and personality, such as his round body, large jowls(双下巴)and cigars(雪茄). Reporter Brian Truitt wrote in USA Today that after watching the movie for just 10 minutes, you forget that you’re seeing Gary Oldman—there is just Winston Churchill.

Oldman was already seen as an excellent actor even before winning his Oscar. In a 2015 survey, he was voted Greatest Actor to Never Win an Oscar, according to Ranker.com. He is known for his versatility(可塑性). His acting style is expressive due to his theater training. He has played many classic roles: the vampire(吸血鬼)Count Dracula in Dracula, the policeman Norman Stansfield in Leon, and Harry Potter’s noble godfather(教父)Sirius Black.

  4. Being happy is an ability, which means we need to learn how to do it. This, perhaps, explains why around one in four undergraduate students at Yale University in the US have signed up (报名) for its Psychology and the Good Life course this semester. The course actually set a record of being the most popular in Yale’s 316-year history.

Laurie Santos, the psychology professor who will be running the course, believes that the high school lives which her students must have had are the reason that the course is so popular. It’s likely that students who get into top universities like Yale had a difficult time in high school. In order to stand out, they had to surround themselves with endless tests, competitions, and so-called “hobbies”, which made them very unhappy. "A lot of us are anxious (焦虑的), stressed, numb (麻木的)," Alannah Maynez, a 19-year-old undergraduate student at Yale, told The New York Times,“and I won’t miss such a chance.”

Yale isn’t the first university to offer such courses. Back in 2006, Harvard introduced its Positive Psychology class, and about 900 students signed up for it. There are now many universities in the US that have started courses on positive psychology, including the University of Pennsylvania and Claremont Graduate University.

It may sound sad when Harvard student Nancy Cheng called Positive Psychology a “self-help class”. But it’s a good thing that students accept that they have a problem, instead of having to pretend that everything is fine in front of everyone.

It’s true that being happy is an ability, and it’s OK that you may not have it yet. However, it’s never too early—or too late—to start learning.

1.Many students at Yale University have signed for the Psychology and the Good Life course because ______ __.

A.students who get into top universities had a difficult time in high school

B.it is the most popular course in Yale’s 316-year history

C.Laurie Santos, the psychology professor will be running the course

2.What does Alannah Maynez think of the psychology course?

    A.Popular. B.Meaningless. C.Useful.

3.How many universities that have positive psychology courses are mentioned in the passage?

    A.Four B.One. C.Two.

4.What does the underlined word “pretend” mean?

    A.掩盖 B.假装 C.承认

5.From the passage, we can know that________.

A.it’s never too early or too late to start learning how to be happy

B.Yale is the first university to offer psychology courses

C.Nancy Cheng thought the course helped her a lot to be happy

Britons are well known for the amount of tea that they drink. The average (平均) person in the UK consumes (消费) around 1.9 kg of tea every year. That’s around 876 cups of tea. Tea is drunk by all sections of society. But tea is not native to Britain. Most tea is grown in India and China. So, how did it become an important part of British culture?

Tea arrived in London in the 1600s. At this time, British ships were exploring the world and came across the drink in China. It was not long before green tea was available to buy. However, this was only available to the richer sections of society.

At the beginning of the 1700s, the amount of tea arriving in Britain increased gradually. Black tea arrived at this time. At first, people drank this tea exactly as it was in China. They soon discovered that it mixed really well with a little milk and sugar, giving the drink a special British characteristic (特色).

In the 1800s tea was still a product enjoyed only by people with money. At this time, they began to have “afternoon tea”. This involves (包含) drinking tea with a snack around 4 pm to avoid feeling hungry between lunch and dinner. It is a tradition that is still going today.

In the late 1800s, the price of tea decreased sharply as more tea began to arrive on ships from India and China. It was no longer a drink just for rich people. Tearooms started to appear across the country. People enjoyed drinking tea and socializing in these places. At the start of the 20th century, Britons began to make tea in their homes whenever they felt like it.

1.How many cups of tea does average person drink each year in the UK?

2.What should be mixed with tea to make it a special British characteristic?

3.Why do British people have afternoon tea?

4.Could most people in Britain afford tea in the late 1800s?

5.Where did Britons enjoy drinking tea and socializing?
