阅读理解 共 4 题
  1. About twenty of us had been fortunate enough to receive invitations to a film-studio(影棚)to take part in a crowd-scene. Although our "act" would last only for a short time, we could see quite a number of interesting things.

We all stood at the far end of the studio as workmen prepared the scene, setting up trees at the edge of a winding path. Very soon, bright lights were turned on and the big movie-camera was wheeled into position. The director shouted something to the camera operator and then went to speak to the two famous actors nearby. Since it was hot in the studio, it came as a surprise to us to see one of the actors put on a heavy overcoat and start walking along the path. A big fan began blowing tiny white feathers down on him, and soon the trees were covered in "snow". Two more fans were turned on, and a "strong wind" blew through the trees. The picture looked so real that it made us feel cold.

The next scene was a complete contrast(对比).The way it was filmed was quite unusual. Pictures taken on an island in the Pacific were shown on a glass screen. An actor and actress stood in front of the scene so that they looked as if they were at the water's edge on an island. By a simple trick like this, palm trees, sandy beaches, and blue, clear skies had been brought into the studio!

Since it was our turn next, we were left wondering what scene would be prepared for us. For a full three minutes in our lives we would be experiencing the excitement of being film ”Stars”!

    1.Who is the author?

    A.A cameraman.                          B.A crowd-scene actor.

C.A film director                          D.A workman for scene setting

2.What made the author feel cold?

A.The heavy snowfall.                      B.The low temperature

    C.The man-made scene..                   D.The film being shown

3.What would happen in the "three minutes" mentioned, in the last paragraph?

A.The next scene would be prepared.

B.More stars would act in the film.

C.The author would leave the studio.

D.A new scene would be filmed.

  3. Astronauts on shorter shuttle missions(使命)often work very long days.  Tasks are scheduled so tightly that break times are often used to finish the day’s work.  This type of schedule is far too demanding for long missions on the International  Space Station(ISS). ISS crewmembers usually live in space for at least a quarter of a year. They work five days on and two days off to mimic the normal way they do things on Earth as much as possible. Weekends give the crew valuable time to rest and do a few hours of housework. They can communicate with family and friends by email , internet phone and through private video conferences.

While astronauts cannot go to a baseball game or a movie in orbit, there are many familiar activities that they can still enjoy . Before a mission, the family and friends of each ISS crewmember put together a collection of family photos, messages, videos and reading material for the astronauts to look at when they will be floating 370 kilometers above the Earth. During their mission, the crew also receives care packages with CDs, books, magazines, photos and letters . And as from early 2010, the internet became available on the ISS , giving astronauts the chance to do some “web surfing(冲浪)”in their personal time. Besides relaxing with these more common entertainments, astronauts can simply enjoy the experience of living in space.

Many astronauts say that one of the most relaxing things to do in space is to look out the window and stare at the universe and the Earth’s vast land mass and oceans.

1.What does the word “mimic” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?

    A.find              B.lose              C.change           D.copy

2.Which of the following best describes the families of the astronauts on the ISS ?

    A.They are caring and thoughtful.

    B.They are worried and upset.

    C.They are impatient and annoyed.

    D.They are excited and curious.

3.In the final paragraph, the author shows that astronauts ________.

A.get more pleasure in space than on the Earth

B.love to see the Earth from space

    C.regard space life as common

D.find living in space a bit boring and tiring

4.The passage mainly discusses how astronauts ________.

A.work for longer missions in space

B.connect with people on the Earth

C.spend their free time in space

    D.observe the Earth from space

  4. Grown-ups are often surprised by how well they remember something they learned as children but have never practiced ever since. A man who has not had a chance to go swimming for years can still swim as well as ever when he gets back in the water. He can get on a bicycle after many years and still ride away. He can play catch and hit a ball as well as his son. A mother who has not thought about the words for years can teach her daughter the poem that begins "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" or remember the story of Cinderella or Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

One explanation is the law of overlearning, which can be stated as follows: Once we have learned something, additional learning trials increase the length of time we will remember it.

In childhood we usually continue to practice such skills as swimming, bicycle riding, and playing baseball long after we have learned them. We continue to listen to and remind ourselves of words such as "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and childhood tales such as Cinderella and Goldilocks. We not only learn but overlearn.

The multiplication tables(乘法口诀表)are an exception to the general rule. that we forget rather quickly the things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we overlearn in childhood. The law of overlearning explains why cramming (突击学习)for an examination, though it may result in a passing grade, is not a satisfactory way to learn a college course. By cramming, a student may learn the subject well enough to get by on the examination, but he is likely soon to forget almost everything he learned. A little overlearning, on the other hand, is really necessary for one's future development

1.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 1

    A.Children have a better memory than grown-ups.

B.People remember well what they learned in childhood.

C.Poem reading is a good way to learn words.“

D.Stories for children are easy to remember

2.The author explains the law of overlearning by

    A.presenting research findings

    B.setting down general rules

    C.using examples

    D.making a comparison

3.According to the author, being able to use multiplication tables is

    A.a result of overlearning

    B.a special case of cramming

C.a skill to deal with math problems

D.a basic step towards advanced studies

4.What is the author's opinion on cramming?

A.It leads to failure in college exams.

    B.It increases students' learning interest.

C.It's possible to result in poor memory.

D.It's helpful only in a limited way.

  1. Empathy

Last year, researchers from the University of Michigan reported that empathy, the ability to understand other people, among college students had dropped sharply over the past 10 years. __1.__ Today, people spend more time alone and are less likely to join groups and clubs.

Jennifer Freed, a co-director of a teen program, has another explanation. Turn on the TV, and you’re showered with news and reality shows full of people fighting, competing, and generally treating one another with no respect. __2.__

There are good reasons not to follow those bad examples. Humans are socially related by nature. __3._ Researchers have also found that empathetic teenagers are more likely to have high self-respect. Besides, empathy can be a cure for loneliness, sadness, anxiety, and fear.

Empathy is also an indication of a good leader. In fact, Freed says, many top companies report that empathy is one of the most important things they look for in new managers. __4.__“Academics are important. But if you don’t have emotional (情感的) intelligence, you won’t be as successful in work or in your love life,” she says.

What’s the best way to up your EQ (情商)? For starters, let down your guard and really listen to others. __5.__

To really develop empathy, you’d better volunteer at a nursing home or a hospital, join a club or a team that has a diverse membership, have a “sharing circle” with your family, or spend time caring for pets at an animal shelter.

A.Everyone is different, and levels of empathy differ from person to person.

B.That could be because so many people have replaced face time with screen time, the researchers said.

C.“One doesn’t develop empathy by having a lot of opinions and doing a lot of talking,” Freed says.

D.Humans learn by example—and most of the examples on it are anything but empathetic.

    E. Empathy is a matter of learning how to understand someone else—both what they think and how they feel.

    F. Good social skills—including empathy—are a kind of “emotional intelligence” that will help you succeed in many areas of life.

    G. Having relationships with other people is an important part of being human—and having empathy is decisive to those relationships.
