试题详情

Hot pot (火锅) is one of Chinese traditional meals. This traditional meal has a history of more than 1,000 years. The winter months come, so does hot pot season. And what made it a Chinese favorite food? Well, it seems that the answer is not just in the dish itself.

Hot pot isn't just designed to keep you warm during the cold months. It's also a social experience. There is a lot of fun for everyone to add food to the hot pot. Hot pot is eaten for over two to three hours. For this reason, it is often considered as an entertainment in the evening, and the time to spend with friends and family. However, most westerners can't stand the idea of other people putting chopsticks in their food. When we come to eat at the table in the UK, we have our own individual portions (份额), although the experience is still a social one.

But having given hot pot a go, lots of westerners find it's now one of their favorite meals in Beijing. The steam (水蒸汽) from the pot leaves the smell of food on their clothes when they get home, but perhaps it is also a part of the experience. When the cold wind is blowing outside, just join some good friends and enjoy hot pot. For them, it's like throwing a dinner party where the taste buds (味蕾) and the hunger are satisfied in the warm company of friends.
