One pleasant evening, I was holding Grandpa's hand and taking a walk in the park. “Where are the peanuts? Give me now!” He suddenly said. How I wished I had some with me! “William, the monkeys are taking long to come out today. Wait till they smell the peanuts.” I knew he was lost in one of his memories again. I remembered the stories he told me of how he fed the monkeys when he was a kid. Then, he saw the goldfish! He acted as if he was seeing them for the first time.
Poor Grandpa! He fell ill with Alzheimer's disease last year. The doctor said it could destroy a person's memory. The patient might also not be able to make reasonable judgments. The sad part was that it was a lifelong disease. But when my parents invited him to stay with us, he refused and said he liked living alone. One day, he forgot to turn off the fire after cooking porridge. Luckily, one of the neighbors came to help him before the fire could spread.
It was then that my parents brought Grandpa to live with us. Often, he would forget my name and ask me who I was and what I was doing in his house. Each time I would answer softly, “It's me, Ray, Grandpa!” Even if he had forgotten who I was, he would always be my beloved grandfather.

When I was in high school, I worked parttime helping Dad sell fruits and vegetables at a market. One day, as I was preparing the fruits, a little boy came by with his mom and sister. He was about eight years old, and the girl, five or six. They were looking at the fruits in front of me. I heard the kids say to their mom(in French),“They're good!” I knew it was French, because I can speak and understand it.
Then I noticed how the mom was picking the fruits. At first I thought she was really looking at the fruits because she was facing them, but then I noticed how much she had to feel and smell each one as she picked them out. And she often asked her son if it looked okay, but looked way above where his face was. Putting what I saw together, I was sure she was blind.
Both of the kids continued to help their mom pick out the fruits. The son made sure the fruits were not obviously bad, and the daughter handed them to her mom. The woman then felt each one and smiled, and the daughter would put them into their basket. The kids were smiling while helping their mom pick the fruits out.
Their smile and gentle manner moved me in a way that never happened before. It was so beautiful to see such young kids so willingly help. Most kids that age would be picking out candies or toys in a store for themselves, instead of helping their mom pick out fruits, as the two kids did.
It was great to witness the moment, but not so great because I didn't tell the mom how beautiful her children were in their language. This is what I regret to this day.
1.When the writer was preparing the fruits, a little boy came by with________.
A.his classmates and friends B.his parents and sister

3.According to what he saw, the writer was sure the mother couldn't________.

4.The writer was moved because________.
A.the mother was brave to face her problems B.the kids were polite and kind to each other
C.the mother was careful in picking out things D.the kids were so willing to help their mother

选对朋友很重要
One day I ran across Johnny Baker on the street. He was a lot older than I was and known as the worst kid in the neighborhood. He came to me and said, "I'm going to the store. Want to come along or are you too chicken?" For some reasons, I agreed.
When we left the store, he stole two chocolate bars and put one in my hand. At that moment, the owner of the store came out. Johnny ran off, but I stayed. I was in big trouble then. My grandfather told me a story about a frog and a scorpion that night.
There was once a frog and a scorpion who both lived on an island. One day, there was a fire in the whole island. Just as the frog was about to jump into the water, the scorpion came to him and begged, "Please help me get off the island! I can't swim. Let me ride on your back."
"No," said the frog. "You'll sting me!"
"No!" the scorpion said. "Why would I do that? If I did that, we'd both die!"
The frog thought about this and finally agreed.
Once they were far from the shore, the scorpion stung the frog on the back. "Why did you do that?" he cried out. "Now we'll both die!" The scorpion replied, "Because I am a scorpion."
