George is a rich man. He likes playing jokes. On Christmas Eve, he wants to give his housekeeper(管家) Jack a big reward (奖赏). He tells Jack, "There are four bowls of porridge here. I put two gold coins(金币)in one of the bowls. Dear Jack, let’s see if you are lucky.”
Jack wants the gold coins very much, but he is not sure which bowl is the right one. He drinks some porridge from the first bowl. Suddenly, he feels the gold coins should be in the second bowl, so he turns to it and drinks half the porridge.
He then drinks half the porridge in the third bowl, too. After that he starts to get a little unhappy. At last, he changes his mind. He drinks half of the porridge in the fourth bowl with much difficulty --at this moment Jack is so full that he can't drink any porridge. In the end, hie doesn't get even one gold coin.
In fact, George puts two coins in every bowl. If Jack could finish just one bowl of porridge, then he would find at least (至少)two gold coins.
That's the way it is in everything in life! If you keep working on something, you will get some fruits at last.

Mike’s father, Mr. Lee, is a farmer. He lives on the farm. He is happy to see his son move to a new flat in the city. One day, Mr. Lee comes to visit his son with a big orange pumpkin, about 10 kg. He grows it all by himself. “I’ll let my son share it with his neighbours. Everyone likes pumpkin. Then Mike and his neighbours will become good friends,” Mr. Lee thinks.
At noon, Mr. Lee gets to the community centre. The building is so tall. There are twenty floors. Mike lives on the sixteenth floor. But he is not at home.
Mr. Lee thinks, “I’ll give the pumpkin to Mike’s neighbours. They will be glad too see the gift.” And he does it. But to his surprise, the neighbour on the left says coldly, “Thank you, but I don’t like it at all.” The woman on the right says nothing and closes the door quickly.
The old man feels sad. At last, he goes to the market, sells it and goes back home. “Are they really neighbours?” he says to himself. He doesn’t know why.
