April Fool’s Day is a celebration that takes place in different countries around the world. On that day people play all kinds of tricks and jokes on each other.
One April Fool’s Day, a reporter in England announced that there would be no more spaghetti because the farmers in Italy had stopped growing spaghetti. Many people ran to their local supermarket to buy as much as spaghetti as they could. By the time people realized the story was a hoax, all of the spaghetti across the country had been sold out. In another famous trick a TV show in England reported the discovery of special water. They said it would help people lose weight and that one customer had already lost a lot of weight in just four months. By the end of the day, more than 10000 people had phoned the TV station to find out how to get this water.
Many April Fool’s jokes may end up being not very funny. A famous TV star asked his girlfriend to marry him on his TV show. The girl said “Yes.” But he replied, “April Fool !” That joke didn’t have a very happy ending. The TV star lost his girlfriend and his show was canceled.
One of the world’s most famous tricks, however, happened in October rather than in April. In that month in 1938, actor Orson Welles announced on his radio program that aliens from Mars had landed on the earth. He described where they had landed and told how they were moving across the United States. People believed the story and fear spread across the whole country. By the time police officers announced that the story was a hoax, many people had left their homes.

April Fool’s Day is supposed to be a day to play jokes on others in the hope of getting a good laugh and making one feel like a fool. However, the April Fool’s Day of 1989 was quite different for my mom and me.
That day my friend Jimmy and I were playing a game.I had dropped down from a bar(横木)many times in the past without ever having a problem, but that day the simple act of dropping to the ground became a nightmare(噩梦).I broke my arm.
Jimmy’s dad heard my crying and rushed out to see what was going on.When he saw the problem,he quickly put me into his truck and went inside to telephone my mom and let her know he would take me to the hospital. As that day was April Fool’s Day,Mom was not buying it and really thought all this was a big joke.Mom was finally convinced by Jimmy’s mom. When she saw me,she broke down in tears because she felt so bad—she originally thought this was just a big prank(恶作剧).
I guess one could compare this to the story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”.Since I had pulled pranks before,it is no wonder that my mom didn’t believe it.I as well as my mom was made to look like a fool that day.We both learned a valuable lesson.

April Fool's Day is supposed to be a day to play jokes on others in the hope of getting a good laugh and making one feel like a fool.
April Fool's Day started in the sixteenth century in Europe. Before that time, New Year's Day was celebrated on April 1st. Then a new calendar called the Gregorian calendar was introduced. January 1st became the first day of the year, but many people didn't know about it. So those who continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1st were laughed at. They were called fools.
Nowadays we play jokes on people on April 1st. For example, someone might put salt in the sugar bottle so another person could put it in his coffee "by accident". Or someone might change the time on another person's alarm clock so that that person would unknowingly wake up earlier or later than planned. Or maybe a person would tell a lie to make someone else shocked.
After we play the trick, we say "April Fools". Then the poor person realizes he was fooled. It is generally done in the spirit of fun and doesn't cause any real harm(伤害) to anyone.
1.April Fool's Day started in the sixteenth century in Africa.
2.Before the sixteenth century, New Year's Day was celebrated on April 1st
3.We can’t play jokes on people on April Fool's Day
