I was having a picnic day with my sister. We both like to ride her motorcycle and that day we drove to the nearest park. We bought some coffee and cakes, and then we were enjoying our food. Within a few hours, the sky was changing and looked ready to drop a heavy rain. We packed everything and were ready to go. My sister, who was sitting on a bench, suddenly was very still and couldn’t talk to me. she didn’t move. Her eyes were rolling and she was about to lose consciousness (知觉). It started to rain and I didn’t know what to do. She was fighting to stay aware but her skin was pale and her eyes were acting strange. She did. Struggling with the rain, she managed to call some policemen, who quickly helped me carry my sister to a safer place. The ambulance arrived and we went to a hospital, where she was treated in time and she came to life in the morning after rest and medical help.
An interesting fact was that I guessed the woman in the raincoat was a doctor or a nurse. I later learned from one of the police officers who told me: “No, she was an ordinary person who took some courses on emergency situations (紧急情況).

I grew up with a group of pets. As a mother, I was determined to provide my daughter with the same joyful experiences. Indeed, by the time my daughter was in elementary school, our house was known as "the neighborhood zoo". Now that she is a teenager, we've reduced the number of animals in our home, but we still live with two dogs. I can't imagine life without them.
Regardless, I have become increasingly uncomfortable with the word "pet". When I came upon the conclusion by the University of Tennessee zoologist Gordon Burghardt that the best we can do for pets is a life of "controlled deprivation (剥夺)", I wished I had never bought Lizzy, our leopard gecko(豹纹守宫). I felt a pit in my stomach when I learned that Lizzy' s constant clawing at the glass wall of her tank was most likely a signal of stress. It is perhaps not surprising that she died after only two years, despite our efforts to give proper care.
The problems with the various small creatures we put into cages and tanks are relatively clear-cut. More challenging moral questions, in my view, arise in relation to our closest furry friends: dogs and cats. Unlike animals that must spend their entire life in a cage or that must struggle to adapt to a human environment, most cats and dogs have it pretty good. Yet it is likely that our dogs and cats may be suffering in ways we don't readily see, because even the most well-meaning owner doesn't always provide what an animal needs.
It may be hard to recognize the harmful aspects of pet keeping when all we hear is how beloved pets are and how happy they are to be in our company. Advertisements showing golden-haired children playing with golden-haired puppies and YouTube videos of cats doing funny things make pet keeping look ever so precious.
Yet if we really care about animals, we ought to know animals are not toys — they are living, breathing, feeling creatures.
1.What does the underlined part "the neighborhood zoo" in Paragraph 1
imply?
A. The author is a pet lover.
B. The author is a regular zoo-goer.
C. The author' s daughter is a zoo keeper.
D. The author' s neighborhood is rich in animals.
2.How did the author feel about Lizzy?
A. Worried. B. Curious.
C. Guilty. D. Annoyed.
3.What is the main problem with pet dogs and cats?
A. They can' t adapt to human life.
B. Their needs are easier to ignore.
C. They suffer a lot from ill-treatment.
D. Their owners fail to accompany them.
4.Which of the following statements is True?
A. My daughter grew up with a group of pets until adulthood.
B. According to Gordon Burghardt, we should try our best to give pets a life of "controlled deprivation (剥夺)".
C. Most cats and dogs spend their entire life in a cage just like other animals.
D. What the media did makes it hard for us to recognize the harmful aspects of pet keeping.

It was the end of my first senior year. I was riding with my friends, and a bottle of beer was passed around the car. Everyone was taking swigs(一大口). When the bottle got to me, I thought:“What should I do?”I took a swig. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I had to drive home later that night.
I went back to my car, got in and drove off. At a stop sign I saw a policeman sitting in the parking lot across the street. His headlights were turned on, and I knew he was going to follow me. Then he flashed his lights at me. All I could think was:“Oh no, that swig!”
I pulled over and waited for him to come to my door. It felt like forever.“Can I see your license and registration, please, Miss?”I gave them to him. He took them and went back to his car for a while. When he returned, he asked if I had been drinking.
“No,”I said. He asked me to step out of my car.
“Walk heel to toe down the white line, please.” I passed the test. Next he had me stand on my left foot, lift my right foot and hold it for 30 seconds. I’m not the most coordinated (动作协调的) person and I can’t even walk and chew gum at the same time, so, needless to say, I didn’t pass. Then he asked me to take a breathalyzer test.
That was where I messed up. I told him I didn’t want to and didn’t understand why I had to. The officer asked me three more times, and I continued to refuse. He told me to turn around and place my hands behind my back. He arrested me right then and there.
The policeman drove me to a police station 20 minutes from my home. He called my parents and told them where I was.
I went to court two months after that, charged with refusing to obey an officer. I got a $700 (4,340 yuan) fine and 40 hours of community service. I’ll be on probation (缓刑) for a year, and I’ll have to take the driving test again. I lost my license for a whole year.
This was a huge learning experience for me. It opened my eyes to how easy it is to make a stupid decision. I want everyone reading this to know that it’s not right to drink and drive. It definitely isn’t worth losing your license over.
1.What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A. The author didn’t remember she had to drive home later when riding with her friends.

d. Stand on one foot for 30 seconds.

A. a, b, d B. a, c, d
C. b, c, e D. b, d, e
3.Which of the following is TRUE according to the article?
A. The author was in jail for 40 hours and had to do community service.
B. The author thought her punishment shouldn’t be so serious.
C. The author believed she would have avoided punishment if she had obeyed the policeman.

4.The article wants to ______.

In a movie, a woman reads a storybook to her friend’s daughter. As they approach the last page, she reads, “… and Cinderella and the prince lived happily ever after.” She closes the book and looks at the young girl, adding, “ You know, things don’t always happen like this in real life, I just think you should know that now.”
We were all raised on fairy tales with glass slippers, brave princes and magic! It didn’t take too long to realize that stories like that aren’t necessarily true. In real life, you learn that glass slippers are really uncomfortable, no prince is perfect and magic doesn’t always work.
So what do you do when the way you planned things is not the way they turned out?
Know that parts of your fairy tale have already been written, and sadly, there’s not much you can do about those first few chapters. You didn’t get the best start. Your trust was unexpectedly betrayed (背叛). You didn’t get the job. Whatever falls and failures happened in your past, there’s still more to the story.
Your life has a lot of contributors (投稿者), and you are the editor-in-chief. You take what’s there and create the masterpiece (杰作). All the good pages and the bad can come together to make a beautiful adventure.
When you find yourself wishing your life was more like the fairy tales, remember that in some ways it already is. There will be dragons, bad witches, great romances, winding roads and friends to help you along the way. Live your life carefully and positively as if you are writing a long story. Whether it’s a comedy, tragedy or a little of both, the pen is in your hand. How it ends is all up to you.
1.According to the first paragraph, we know the woman is __________.
A. wise B. cruel C. brave D. patient
2.Why does the author raise the question in Paragraph 3?
A. To compare different ideas
B. To express the doubts of life.
C. To introduce points for discussion.
D. To describe the conditions in real life
3.Which of the following may NOT often appear in fairy tales?
A. Glass slippers B. Winding roads
C. Sad endings D. Bad witches.
4.What is the message expressed in the passage?
A. Be positive about life
B. Write your own stories.
C. Parents should tell fairy tales to their kids
D. There are many problems in school education
