It is widely agreed that the over-use of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil has caused serious environmental problems. Scientists are trying to find new clean energies that do not pollute the air, the water or the ground. Solar power is one of them.
Solar power is a kind of electricity which is produced by taking energy from the sun, using solar panels (面板,电池板). The power is easy to get and will never be used up. Whenever it is sunny, there is the power. The power is clean and renewable. It helps to reduce waste and pollution, which is great for the environment. In the areas that are too far away to send electricity to or not easy to build electric power plants, solar power is especially necessary. It enables the people there to use lights, TVs, computers, washing machines, fridges and many other things.
Therefore, more and more countries, such as China, the USA, Japan and India, encourage scientists to develop practical technology to put solar power to use. However, the power is not as widely used as expected.
One of the challenges is that a solar power system needs sunshine. Countries or areas with a lot of rain, like the UK, are not suitable to develop such power system. Secondly, a solar power panels requires a very large site to fix enough solar panels to collect sunlight and change it into electricity. Maybe an area in the desert would be one of the perfect places for such a plant to build. What’s more, solar panels are expensive at present though the energy itself doesn’t cost anything.
Today scientists are working hard to develop more practical and cheaper solar power system. Maybe one day solar power will be one of the most important clean energies in our life.

阅读下面材料,从每题所给的三个选项(A、B和C)中,选出最佳选项。
As we know, the over-use of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil has caused serious
environmental problems. Scientists are trying to find new clean energies that does not pollute the air, the water or the ground. Solar power(太阳能) is one of them. Solar power is a kind of electricity which is produced by taking energy from the sun, using solar panels(板).
Solar power has many advantages. The power is easy to get and will never be used up. Whenever it is sunny, there is power. The power is clean and renewable(可再生的). It helps to reduce waste and pollution.
However, the power is not as widely used as expected(预期). One problem is that a solar power system needs sunshine. Some areas with a lot of rain, like the UK, are not suitable to develop solar power systems. Secondly, a solar power factory needs a large place to fix enough solar panels to collect sunshine. Maybe an area in the desert would be perfect place for such a factory to build. What’s more, solar panels are expensive though the energy itself doesn’t cost anything.
Today scientists are trying to develop solar power systems. Maybe one day, solar power will be one of the most important clean energies in our life.

It is reported that fossils( 化 石 )found in China are from an totally new type of dinosaur( 恐龙)that belonged to the same family as the giants diplodocus(梁龙)which have died out and only can be seen in pictures.
The fossils were first discovered in 2004 by a farmer in Lingwu, a small town in the west of China. Since then, a group of people led by Xu Xing, an expert from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have dug up the whole or parts of skeletons(骷髅)from between seven and 10 dinosaurs.
Xu and researchers from two English universities have published the first study of the 174-million-year-old fossils in the journal Nature. The animal that died out long ago belonged to the diplodocus family, which are a group of ancient animals including the huge 25- meter-long diplodocus.
Xu named the dinosaur Lingwulong Shenqi(meaning Lingwu amazing dragon)after the town where the fossils were discovered. Lingwulong was a bit smaller than others with a short neck. It was about 11 to 17 meters and had a long tail and strong legs.
Lingwulong is the first diplodocus discovered in East Asia. Before the discovery, scientist thought those animals never got into Aisa because of an inland sea.Philip Mannion, the writer of the study, said “The inland sea may have seen less of barrier ( 障 碍 )than we once thought,or it could have been seasonal.”

2.How did scientists name the newly found dinosaur?
A.By its size. B.By the place it was found.
C.By chance. D.By its appearance.
3.What does the new type of dinosaur look like?
A.Very small with a long neck. B.The largest with long legs.
C.About 25meters long with a long tail. D.About 15meters long with strong legs.

What are fossils?
Fossils are the remains of plants or animals. For such remains to be considered fossils, scientists have decided they have to be over 10,000 years old. The word fossil comes from the Latin word “fossilis”, which means, “dig up”. Fossils can be divided into “body fossils” and “trace(痕迹) fossils”. Body fossils are the remains of a plant or animal’s body. Trace fossils are the remains of the activity of an animal, such as footprints, egg shells, and nests.
How are fossils formed?
Some animals were quickly covered after their death by sediment(沉淀物) like earth, mud or sand. Over time, the parts of the animals that didn’t rot (usually the harder parts like bones and teeth) were covered in the newly formed sediment. Then, a lot of chemical changes happened to the animals bodies. Water with minerals(矿物质) went into the bone and took the place of the chemicals in the bone with rock-like minerals. In the end we get a heavy, rock-like copy of the original object - a fossil. There weren’t any changes in size and shape when an object changed into a fossil, but the fossil of a bone doesn’t have any bone in it! It is chemically more like a rock! According to scientists, fossils have been found on every continent(大陆) on Earth.
1.Trace fossils can’t be formed from the ______ of some kind of animals.
A. footprints B. nests C. eggs D. bodies
2.______ brings the rock-like minerals into the bone.
A. Sunlight B. Earth C. Water D. Air
3.According to the last paragraph, the fossil is as ______ as the original object.
A. heavy B. big C. old D. clean
4.We can know that ______ from the passage.
A. scientists think that the fossils may have a history of 100 centuries.
B. people haven’t found any fossil on the continent of Africa.
C. we can find some real bones in the fossils of a bone.
D. there are many kinds of sediment in the fossils.
