The World Future is set up by a group of people from more than 100 countries who are interested in how modern technology is making our life better.
They think the things that we will be able to do in the future should help us live better in many ways, at home and at work, in our own country and around the world. Here are just two of them.
People live to 120 years old and use new technologies to help them when they go blind(盲), deaf(聋) or have other problems. The number of people over a hundred years old would increase. By 2050 people think that 100 million workers will be able to work at home for companies in a different country by using the Internet.
The new technology of “nanotechnology”, very small robots or machines, will make all the things smaller and lighter. Very, very small machines could take away rubbish, make things in factories, and help people take away fat in their bodies. By 2020 people will probably be able to wear these small machines that look like watches. They will give us lots of information about our bodies and help keep us healthy.
1.How many countries are members of the World Future from?

2.What is the World Future interested in?

3.What can people do when they are blind, deaf or have other problems?

Hanukkah(光明节), the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by the Jewish(犹太人的) people around the world. They celebrate the holiday with the lighting of the menorah(连灯烛台), traditional foods, games and gifts. Hanukkah is a Jewish festival. It is on the 25th day of the Jewish month, which is usually sometime in December. The festival celebrates the time, over 2000 years ago, when the Jewish people fought against a king who would not let them follow their own traditions and religion(宗教). When the Jewish people won back their temple in the city, they found there was only enough holy(神圣的) oil to keep the sacred light(神圣之灯) burning for one day. However, to their surprise, the little oil kept the light burning for eight days and nights, until the people had time to make some oil.
At the center of the festival celebrations is a candlestick (called a Menorah) that holds nine candles. On the first night of the festival, the first candle is lit, and each day this candle is used to light another candle, until on the eighth day, the last day, all the candles are lit. During the festival, people go to the temple to pray(祈祷) and to remember the miracle(奇迹) of the holy oil. The festival is a time for family and friends to come together. People exchange gifts and greeting cards, and children go to parties. Parents often give their children money at Hanukkah. Potato cakes, called latkes, are a traditional Hanukkah food.
