The sight of a tailor-shop gave me a strong wish to throw off my old clothes and get a new suit. Could I afford it? No, I had nothing in the world but a million-pound note. I handed the note to him and said: “Oh, very well, I am sorry.”
He received it with a smile, and then as he looked at the note, his smile froze.
Realizing what was going on, the owner of the shop gave a low whistle and talked excitedly, as if to himself.
