Dear Editor,
I’m now busy in preparing for the Postgraduate (研究生) Entrance Exam. A few days ago, I happened to see some new guidebooks for those who want to take next year’s exam. With too many hopes and without taking it into too much consideration, I bought several that were written by some known for helping candidates (应试者) for master’s degrees.
What made me really angry was the starting discovery that the contents of those books were almost exactly the same as some I had bought before. There were only superficial (外表的) changes in their covers, with more attractive new titles and better designs. The contents were the same.
People say that the publishing industry is in a state of chaos (混乱) these days but I used to be doubtful abut that. I was of the opinion that only people of noble character, prestige (威望), and exceptional talent would produce books for higher education. But these editors are caring little about their readers.
I hope that authors and publishing houses will be more responsible for their readers. Don’t destroy the image that you have with your readers.

D.the books had the same contents as what he had bought before |
3. In the writer’s opinion, publishers should be _____________________________.

The most important day Helen Keller remembered in all her life was the one on which her teacher, Anne Sullivan, came to her.It was three months before she was seven years old.
On the afternoon of that day, Helen knew that something was happening. She went outside and waited at the door of the house. She could feel the sun on her face and she could touch the leaves of the plants. Then she felt someone walking towards her.She thought it was her mother and she went to her and held her close. This was the teacher who had come to teach all things to her and, above all, to love her.
The next morning, the teacher took her into her room and gave her a doll. When Helen was playing with it, Miss.Sullivan slowly spelled the word “d-o-l-l” onto her hand.Helen learnt a lot of words like this. After the teacher had been with her for several weeks, Helen understood that everything had a name.

One of the most important meals of the day is breakfast. In order for children to build strong bodies and for adults to keep well, they should always eat a good breakfast. Eating the right food is necessary for good health. You should eat different kinds of food in order to keep a good health.
It is understood that a good breakfast may contain eggs, bread, milk, and so on. By eating breakfast every morning, you can feel alive and active in the morning’s work. C
All parents know that one of their most important tasks is to prepare their children for an independent life, but any parent can tell you that it’s hard to let go of your children. That balance between keeping your children safe and allowing them to learn from their own mistakes can be heartbreaking. Years of experience means that parents often do know best, but on the other hand the young, being less bound by tradition, are often more creative, more able to find new solutions to old problems. Revolutions are led by the young.
Good teachers make the growth of critical thinking (批判性思维) easier in their students, only to find that this lead to a questioning of the teachers’ basic beliefs. Schools encourage parents to become involved, but are often embarrassed when parents have doubts about some of the educational methods being used. Governments encourage unimportant groups to empower themselves in order to participate fully in the development process. And they are often surprised when the new leaders of these groups turn around and attack the policies or decisions of that same government. However, the rebellious (叛逆的) young and the newly unimportant groups are important in social development. They are not necessarily representatives of those they want to represent in their demands, but their voices must be heard.
Good parents know that just forbidding (禁止) particular behaviors does not prevent their children from finding ways to engage in these forbidden activities. Indeed, sometimes the forbidden fruit is more inviting, just because it is not accepted by authority. Parents must work with their children to educate them on the facts, know as much as possible about the lives of their children, provide a good example, encourage more wholesome activities but also support their children when they don’t follow what is expected of them. But the most important point is that they also need to learn how to let go.

A.conventional B.realistic C.creative D.heartbreaking

3.In order to educate children well, parents should _______.
A.forbid particular behaviors in their daily life
B.know them well and set a good example to them
C.educate them with facts and expect much of them
D.know as much as possible about their children
4.From the passage we can learn that the author prefers _______.
A.free parenting B.traditional parenting
C.critical parenting D.smart parenting

A.Letting Go – for Children’s Independent Life
