First of all, it's a myth that no two snowflakes(雪花)are the same. In 1988, a scientist found two exact same snow crystals(晶体)that had both formed in a snow storm in Wisconsin, USA.
Since then scientists have come to learn that snowflakes can only form into 35 different shapes. Although scientists are also not sure why exactly the various shapes of snowflake form, they have confirmed(确定)eight main shapes, with each of these eight shapes having several different variations(变化).
Second biggest myth, snow isn't white. It's actually colorless. Snow is made up of very small pieces of ice, and ice is translucent(半透明的), which means that light does not pass through it easily, but rather it gets reflected(反射).
When light hits a snowflake, it gets reflected back from the snowflake's many surfaces, often bouncing(弹跳)between these surfaces, and because of this that light is reflected back to our eyes as the color white. This is why, when we have a close look at a snowflake, it always looks clear, yet in reality appears as white.

When you are reading something in English, you may often meet with a new word. What’s the best way to know it?
You may look it up in the English-Chinese dictionary. It will tell you a lot about the word: the pronunciation, the Chinese meaning and how to use the word. But how can you know where the word is thousands of English words? How to find it in the dictionary both quickly and correctly?
First, all the English words are arranged(安排) in the letter order. In the dictionary you can first see the words beginning with letter A, then B, C, D…. That means, if there are two words “desert” and “pull”, “desert” will be certainly before “pull”. Then if there are two words both beginning with the same letter, you may look at the second letter. Then the third, the fourth… For example, “pardon” is before “plough”, “judge” before “just”, etc.
Do you understand how to look up in the dictionary?
The dictionary will be your good friend. I hope you’ll use it as often as possible in your English study.

The word“day” has two meanings. When we talk about the number of days in a year, we are using “day” to mean 24 hours. But when we talk about day and night, we are using“day” to mean the time between sunrise and sunset. Since the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at a time. Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night. A place is moved from day into night and from night into day over and over by the spinning(旋转)of the earth. At the equator(赤道)day and night are sometimes the same length(长度). They are each twelve hours long. The sun rises at 6 o’clock in the morning and sets at 6 o’clock in the evening. For six months the North Pole is tilted(倾斜)toward the sun. In those months the Northern Hemisphere(半球)gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere. Days are longer than nights. South of the equator nights are longer than days. For the other six months the North Pole is tilted away from the sun. Then the Southern Hemisphere gets more sunlight. Days are longer than nights. North of the equator nights are longer than days. Winter is the season of long nights. Summer is the season of long days.
1.When the Western Hemisphere is having day, the Eastern Hemisphere is having ________.
A. both day and night B. day
C. neither day nor night D. night

3..At the equator day is as long as night ________.

4.When the North Pole is tilted toward the sun, the Northern Hemisphere gets ________ sunlight.

5..When it is winter in China, ________.
A. the USA is tilted toward the sun
B. the South Pole is tilted away from the sun
C. the North Pole is tilted toward the sun
