WASHINGTON — It is announced Friday that White House visitor records will be opened up on a regular basis for the first time in modern history, providing the public an unusually detailed look at who gets the opportunity to help shape American policy at the highest levels.
“Americans have a right to know whose voices are being heard in the policymaking process,” the president said in a written statement issued by the White House while he vacationed with his family at Camp David.
By the end of the year, the White House will begin posting online every month the names of the people who visited in the last 90 to 120 days. Each person’s full name will be listed, along with the date and time they entered and left and the name of the person they visited. About 70,000 to 100,000 people visit the White House each month, and the records will include tourists as well as people conducting business.
The White House pointed out several exceptions to the policy: “purely personal guests” of the Obama family; those cases in which the disclosure(透露) of visitors’ names “would threaten national safety interests”; and those who come for “particularly sensitive meetings,” like candidates for a Supreme Court nomination(提名). Officials said only a “small number” will fit in the latter category(类别), and their names would eventually be disclosed after they are no longer secret, like after a nomination is publicly announced. Moreover, they said, the number of undisclosed visitors will be disclosed, to make clear how few they are.
1.Why will the White House visitor records be open to the public?
A.To attract more visitors to the White House.
B.To allow people to know more about the life of the Obama family.
C.To let the public know who are influencing the policies.

B.Not all visitors are allowed to visit the White House
C.Some visitors’ names can be found online until they’re not secret
D.The records of the visitors will be kept for at least 4 months
3.According to the passage, whose name might be kept secret for some time?
A.A tourist. B.A businessman. C.A foreign student. D.A foreign minister.
4. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.The White House will open the records of the visitors to the public.
B.In America more and more people are becoming policy makers.
C.The Americans have a right to know who are making policies.

The year is 2094. It has been announced that a comet (彗星)is heading towards the earth. Most of it will miss our planet, but two pieces will probably hit the southern half of the earth.
On 17 July, a piece of 4 kilometers wide comet enters the Earth’s atmosphere with a massive explosion(爆炸). About half of the piece is destroyed, but the remaining part hits the South Atlantic at 200 times the speed of sound. The sea boils and a huge hole is made in the seabed. Huge waves are created and spread outwards form the hole. The wall of water, a kilometer high, rushes towards southern Africa at 800 kilometers an hour. Cities on the African coast are totally destroyed and millions of people are drowned(淹死).
Before the waves reach South America, the second piece of the comet lands in Argentina. Earthquakes and volcanoes ash set off in the Andes Mountains. The shock waves move north into California and all around the Pacific Ocean. The cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Tokyo are completely destroyed by earthquakes. Millions of people in the southern half of the earth are already dead, but the north won’t escape for long. Because of the explosions, the sun is hidden by clouds of dust, temperatures around the world fall to almost zero. Crops are ruined. The sun won’t be seen again for many years. Wars break out as countries fight for food. A year later, no more than 10 million people remain alive.
Could it really happen? In fact, it has already happened more than once in the history of the earth. The dinosaurs were on the Earth for over 160 million years. Then 65 million years ago they suddenly disappeared. Many scientists believe that the Earth was hit by a piece of object in space. The dinosaurs couldn’t live through the cold climate that followed and they died out. Will we meet the same end?
1.What is mainly described in the passage?
A.A historic discovery.
B.An event in imagination.
C.A research on space.
D.A scientific adventure.
2.When the first piece hits the South Atlantic, it causes________.
A.an earthquake B.hunger
C.an Earth explosion D.huge waves
3.Why can’t the northern half of the earth escape for long?
A.Because the land is covered with water.
B.Because the light and heat form the sun cannot reach the earth.
C.Because people there cannot live at the temperature of zero.
D.Because wars break out among countries.
4.By giving the example of dinosaurs, the author tries to prove_________.
A.animals could not live in the cold climate
B.what happened 65 million years ago was an invented story
C.the human beings will die out in 2094
D.the Earth could be hit by other objects in space

Do you know that Street Sense is? It’s a newspaper in Washington D.C. about homeless people and problems that affect them Homeless, or formerly homeless, Washingtonians write many of the articles. 高一英语完形填空简单题查看答案及解析
Many people take it for granted that black is a color of bad things while white should always mean something good. This may be because, in their opinion, black is related to darkness and white to purity(纯洁).
However, that is not always the case.Did you know that the same colour may mean differently in different places of the world?
In the English-speaking world, black is the colour of mourning(哀悼).People wear black clothes at the funeral.Red is concerned with danger or bloodshed (流血).Yellow is the word for fear.If you are afraid, you are yellow.Yet none of these sayings is true outside the English-speaking world. In China and Korea white is the colour of mourning. In Russia, China and some other countries, red stands for beauty, life and excellence. In Italy and Germany, you are yellow with anger, not with fear.
Even within the English-speaking area it is not difficult to find colour contradictions (矛盾).A redcap in the United States is a porter in a railway station. In Britain, however, a redcap is a military policeman. Both names are logical because both men wear red caps.Similarly, the British term for an American white collar worker is sometimes called a black-coated worker.
One does not have to cross an area to find color differences.Would you rather be red-blooded? If we go back to the origin, we find that both terms are logical as both names suggest. The expression “blueblood” comes from Spain, where some noble(贵族)families proudly said that they had “blue blood”.But then why “blue” blood? Because they were fair-skinned, and it is only natural that their blood vessels (血管) stood out appearing blue.
1.Yellow is concerned with anger in ______.
A.Russia B.Britain C.Germany D.China
2. Both Britain and America would probably agree that ______.
A.black is the color of mourning B.a black-coated worker is employed in an office
C.red stands for beauty and excellence D.a redcap is a porter in a station
3.The best title for this passage is ______.
A.The Origin of Blue Blood B.The Development of the Use of Colors
C.Colors that Carry Bad Meanings D.The Meaning Concerned With Certain Colors
4.When some Spanish called themselves “blueblood”, they actually meant ______.
A.they had heart trouble and their faces looked blue B.they came from a noble family
C.they had blue blood in their vessels D.they were fair-skinned
