“Is there something I can do for you?” a 45 voice asked. She 46 to face a stranger, a woman, who was looking at her with 47 and concern. “Uh…oh...OH!” Sandra responded, “I can’t give this card to my children because…because my husband died and this is the 48 card.”
Hearing this, the stranger’s face softened with sympathy(同情) and love. She reached out and 49 my sister into her arms, giving her unspoken permission to cry in the protection of her embrace(拥抱). She 50 held my sister until her calmness 51 . “Thank you for listening to me cry on,” was what my sister said when all was better. “You are welcome, and I am so sorry for your 52,” the stranger answered and said goodbye to her.
During her telling of this event I was feeling 53 that I hadn’t been there. My sister needed me and a stranger had to do my 54 . “You know,” she went on, “a friend suggested that it was like meeting with an Angel.” My 55 disappeared in an instant. My sister required an Angel, and I think that is exactly what she got.

It has been four years since Grandma Joy told her grandson that she had never seen the most beautiful views of America. Since then, they have gone on many cross-country trips.
Brad Ryan had been feeling tired of studying in a vet school when he visited his 85-year-old grandma in 2015. He hoped that spending some quality family time would make him cheerful.
As he was telling his grandma stories of his travels, however, he was heartbroken to hear that she had never seen the ocean or mountains. Ryan then asked his grandmother if she would like to go hiking with him. Needless to say, she was more than happy to agree.
They have since visited 29 different national parks across America—from the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado to the Acadia National Park in Maine. Over the four years, Ryan and his grandma have driven 25,000 miles through 38 states. And it has greatly affected his quality of life. “Seeing it through my grandmother’s eyes, who every morning wakes up and is thankful to be alive, has taught me how to live,” Ryan said. “With her, I’ve had to slow down and see life in a different way, which has made it a lot richer.”
“I love my grandma so much, and it’s just really giving me a lot of peace when she passed away. I can go back to these places, feel her spirit, and feel connected to her,” he added.
Ryan posted all of their trips on Facebook. He hopes more young people will spare time to be with their elders. “I want young people to know that hanging out with your grandparents is cool. And there’s so much we can learn from our elders,” Ryan said.

I recently ran into an old friend who I hadn't seen for two years. She looked tired and was talking in a loud voice. She is a headhunter, and had just finished interviewing a candidate but failed to impress him.
Then she started to complain about her health problems. One year ago, she began to notice a ringing in her ears. She went to the hospital and was told that her problem might have resulted from stress. The doctor gave her pills for her nerves.
At night, she has to listen to loud music to quiet the noise in her head and fall asleep. Her life has become a twopoint routine of work and home. Even while she was vacationing in Thailand, she found herself searching for the right candidate.
She suffers from the same workaholic depression as another friend who works for an advertising company. This friend has to work overtime almost every day. If she's lucky, she can leave at 9 p.m.; otherwise it's midnight. For her, working on weekends has become normal. Each time I see her, she seems down.
My two friends share something in common: They don't want to escape their misery, believing that if you don't work hard when you are young, you will regret it. That may be true, but there are limits. If every day you wake up feeling down, then it may be time to move on.
As important as finding a job that you really like, is finding a company with a healthy atmosphere. The right company should lift your spirits and have a team working toward a common goal. As for the employees, they should work hard and play hard. If you can enjoy life, you will have more passion to bring to your work.
1.Why did the author's old friend suffer from health problems?
A. Because of stress from work. B. Because she ate too much.
C. Because of the loud noise in her workplace. D. Because she failed to impress a candidate.
2.One thing that the author's two friends share is that ________.
A. they both love their work B. they both work extremely hard
C. they both work for an advertising company D. they both take an active part in social activities
3.What does the author think important in finding a job?
A. Chances to achieve one's goal. B. Chances to learn new things.
C. A pleasant working atmosphere. D. A good boss and a large salary.
