I'm a pig,and my son is a rabbit. I have snakes for daughters, and my wife, believe it or not,is a dragon!Do I live in a zoo? No,of course not!I am talking about Chinese zodiac signs(十二生肖).Depending on the year of your birth, each person has an animal for a sign. That's why I am a pig and my wife is a dragon. If you, like me,were born in the year of the pig, then you are brave, thoughtful and loyal. The year of the pig is filled with good fortune.
Now let's take a closer look at this interesting animal.
Pigs were first raised by man about 9,000 years ago,and are still a very common farm animal in many parts of the world. We don't just use pigs for their meat—almost every part of the animal is used. The hair is used for artists' brushes. The fat is used to make floor wax, rubber and plastics.
Pigs have also been important in the world of entertainment. In 1995 the film Babe starred a loveable talking pig as its main character. The film won an Oscar and was nominated(提名)for 6 more. In England you can even go to watch pig racing. A farmer,Rob Shepherd, has been raising money for charity by holding pig races on his farm. The events have been very successful. People don't just want to eat pigs,it seems!
Pigs also play an important role in the English language. For example,if someone says that he will travel to the sun one day,you can say “Pigs_might_fly!” to him. Hungry?Well then, you can “pig out” and eat lots of food. And what if someone rescues you?Well, you can say that they “saved your bacon”.
1.The writer wrote the first paragraph in a ________ tone.
A. sad B. confused
C. serious D. humorous

I have two sons. They are as different as night and day. My youngest is sweet, loveable, easy-going, and finds joy in everything. My oldest we’ve nicknamed the “Evil Genius” is ambitious, self-confident, and suffers no fools. Whenever we mentioned Santa my husband and I were rewarded with major eye rolling and deep sighs from my oldest. At first we both tried to ignore it.
We both knew that our eldest had figured out the big secret. But I’d be damned(指责) if he was going to ruin it for his six-year-old brother who had plenty of Santa-loving years ahead of him. I looked at my husband in the eye and said, “I’ll handle this.” to which he responded “Okay just be careful because I’m not sure he knows - he might just be acting like it.” But I knew. And I had it in my mind that he was about to break his younger brothers spirit and break the news to him. I was afraid he was going to take the Christmas spirit away from my sweet innocent youngest and stamp all over it. I had to protect him. I needed to control this now before it got out of control. I rushed into the play room where my oldest was playing alone. I looked him dead in the eyes and said: “Well you know Santa isn’t real, right?” And as I stared at my eight-year-old son for what seemed like a long time of silence, his eyes started to fill with tears. And a tear dropped down his cheek when he screamed out, “He’s not?” “Um well it’s not that he’s not real (shut up you idiot- stop saying he’s not real), but he doesn’t really make and deliver all the toys. Dad and I get some of them for you. So he’s real. He’s just got a little help from us.”
The Evil Genius wasn’t buying it. He just sat there looking at me with an expression of doubt. You know when you make a terrible mistake but you can’t stop yourself from making it worse? That was me because I just had to know. I had to know why he had seemed to be over Santa. So I asked him why he rolled his eyes and sighed every time his father and I mentioned Santa, to which he replied that kids at school had been saying Santa wasn't real but that he still thought he was.

A. Two different sons
B. Santa secret given away
C. Protecting one, ruining the other
D. Making a mistake worse
2.What did the writer conclude when “Evil Genius” rolled his eyes and sighed?
A. “Evil Genius” had discovered Santa was not real.
B. “Evil Genius” had broken the secret to his younger brother.

D. “Evil Genius” had been influenced by his classmates.
3.What does the underlined sentence mean in the passage?
A. “Evil Genius” refused to buy toys.
B. “Evil Genius” didn’t believe his mother’s words.
C. “Evil Genius” wanted to keep silent.

I took my 9-year-old daughter, Suzan and 5-year-old son, Robbie to the shopping centre. As we got there,we saw a big sign that said, “Petting Zoo”. The kids jumped up and asked, “Daddy, can we go?”
Both my wife and I were out of work. However, I said, “Sure”, giving them a quarter each. They went away, leaving only fifty cents left in my pocket.
A petting zoo is made up of a hundred of little baby animals of all kinds. Kids pay their money and stay in the enclosure(围场)pleased with the little animals while their parents shop.
A few minutes later, I saw Suzan walking along behind me, I was surprised and asked what was wrong.
She said sadly, “Well, Daddy, a ticket for Petting Zoo costs fifty cents. So I gave Robbie my quarter.” Then she said the most beautiful thing I ever heard. She repeated the family motto(座右铭), which is “Love is Action!”
I knew clearly no one loves little animals more than Suzan. She had watched both my wife and me do and say "Love is Action!” for years, and now she had put it into her lifestyle. It had become part of her, because she knew the whole family motto. It’s not only “Love is Action”; it’s “Love is SACRIFICAL(牺牲的) Action!” Love always pays a price...
I was moved. We went back to the Petting Zoo. Suzan stood with her hands and chin(下巴)resting on the fence and just watched Robbie go crazy petting and feeding the animals. I had fifty cents burning a hole in my pocket. I put my hand into my pocket and took out the money. Sure, I must do that!

A. A Petting Zoo. B. Try Your Best to Help Others.

2.The underlined part “the most beautiful thing” in Paragraph 5 refers to _______.
