On Friday night you stole away the life of an exceptional being, the love of my life, the mother of my son, but you will not have my hatred(憎恨).
I don't know who you are and I don't want to know-you are dead souls. If the God for whom you kill blindly made us in his image, each bullet in my wife's body would have been a wound in his heart.
Therefore I will not give you the gift of hating you. You have obviously sought it, but responding to it with anger would be to give in to the same ignorance that has made you what you are.
You want me to be afraid, to cast a mistrusting eye on my fellow citizens, to sacrifice my freedom for security? You lost.
I saw her this morning, finally after nights and days of waiting. She was just as beautiful as she was when she left on Friday evening, as beautiful as when I fell madly in love with her more than 12 years ago.
Of course I am heart-broken, I will give you that tiny victory, but this will be a short-term grief. I know that she will join us every day and that we will find each other again in the paradise(天堂)of free souls which you will never have access to.
We are only two, my son and I, but we are more powerful than all the world's armies. In any case, I have no more time to waste on you. I need to go back to Melvil, who is waking up from his afternoon nap. He is just 17 months old. He'll eat his snack like every day, and we are going to play like we do every day. In every day of his life, this little boy will insult(侮辱) you with his happiness and freedom, because you don't have his hatred either.

China is a land of bicycles. At least it was back in 1992 when I traveled the country. Back then everyone seemed to be riding a bicycle. Millions of them, all black. Cars were rare. Yet since my arrival in Beijing last year, I’ve found the opposite is true. There are millions of cars. However, people still use their bicycles to get around. For many, it’s the easiest and cheapest way to travel today. Bicycles also come in different colors --- silver, green, red, blue, yellow, whatever you want.
It’s fun watching people biking. They rush quickly through crossroads, move skillfully through traffic, and ride even on sidewalks. Bicycles allow people the freedom to move about that cars just can’t provide.
Eager to be part of this aspect of Chinese culture, I decided to buy a bicycle. Great weather accompanied my great buy. I immediately jumped up on my bicycle seat and started home.
My first ride home was orderly (守秩序的). To be safe, I stayed with a “pack” of bikers while cars on the streets came running swiftly out of nowhere at times. I didn’t want to get hit. So I took the ride carefully.
Crossing the streets was the biggest problem. It was a lot like crossing a major highway back in the United States. The streets here were wide, so crossing took time, skill and a little bit of luck.
I finally made it home. The feeling on the bicycle was amazing. The air hitting my face and going through my hair was wonderful. I was sitting on top of the world as I passed by places and people. Biking made me feel alive.

B.The author was annoyed by the air while riding.
C.The author was praised by the other bikers.

Londoners are great readers. They buy large numbers of newspapers, magazines and books-especially paperbacks, which are still cheap in spite of ever-increasing rises in the costs of printing. They still continue to buy “proper” books, too, printed on good paper.
There are many streets in London containing bookshops. Perhaps the best known of these is Charing Cross Road in the very heart of London. Here bookshops of all sorts and sizes are to be found, from the famous one which is said to be “the biggest bookshop in the world” to the dusty little places which seem to have been left over from Dickens’ time. Some of these shops stock or will make efforts to get any kind of books, but many of them specialize in second-hand books, in art books, in foreign books, in books on economics, politics or any other subjects about which books may be written. One shop in this area specializes only in books about ballet.
Although it may be the most convenient place for Londoners to buy books, Charing Cross Road is not the cheapest. For really cheap second-hand books, collectors must go to Farringdon Road, in the East Central district of London. Here there is nothing so impressive as bookshops. The booksellers come along each morning and put lots of books onto small hand-carts (手推车) which line the streets. The collectors, some professionals and some amateurs (业余爱好者), who have been waiting for them, run quickly towards the books. In places like this one can still, sometimes, pick up for a few pence an old book that may be worth many pounds.

A bicycle may be seen by most people as just another vehicle(交通工具), but for many Londoners, cycling is a way of life. According to a UK government survey in 2017, about 570, 000 bike journeys were made every day in London. In fact, almost half of the vehicles that pass over London Bridge each day are bikes.
London introduced a public bike-sharing system in 2010. “There can be no doubt that our trusty bicycles have changed the way people get around our great city,” Johnson told The Guardian in 2015.
In London, bikes are used for more than just taking short trips to and from the subway. No matter where you want to go in the city, riding a bike is usually the quickest and easiest choice.
And it’s not just shared bikes that the government is encouraging people to ride. In many companies across the UK, the UK government’s Cycle to Work scheme(计划)allows workers to buy a brand new bike without having to pay any tax(税). This means that it's common to see many people cycling to and from work, and some companies even provide showers and lockers in the workplaces for their workers. More importantly, a cycle-friendly boss may let you off for being late if you ride a bike to work.
Not only is it great for the environment and our body, cycling is also good for the mind. According to National Geographic Magazine, “Bike riding can improve people’s happiness.”

A.By using numbers.
B.By giving examples.
