I don’t post recognizable pictures of my children on social media. I don’t use their names. I don’t put anything out there that will be really embarrassing for them in later life.
The reason for not posting pictures is that I feel a person’s pictures should be his or her own. It’s not good for me to push my kids out into the wilds of the Web before they’re ready, and understand what it all means.
When the time comes, they’re more than welcome to use social media. But for now, I’m happy to give them a degree of separation until they can make a choice for themselves.
This has meant extra efforts on our part when it comes to making sure that kids don’t get accidentally caught up in the Internet, because the schools where they learn, like so many others up and down the country, post their pictures to social media.
However, my husband thought I was overanxious and asked me a question about its advantages. And having thought about it for while, I’m not 100 percent sure if there are any.
But I could list the disadvantages: the time it takes to manage an account, often by a teacher, meaning extra work; the unavoidable difficulties in safeguarding.
It’s great to see the kids doing their things in schools but my worry is about the use of social media that doesn’t give anything back to the kids, and in many ways, just turns them into another way to gain clicks. I want more than that for them.
1.Why is the author unwilling to post her kids’ picture online?
A.To push her kids into the wilds of the Web. B.To avoid being recognized
C.To make herself embarrassed. D.To protect her kids’ privacy.
2.What’s most schools’ attitude towards social media?
A.Supportive. B.Unfavorable. C.Doubtful. D.Worried.
3.Why did the author’s husband ask her a question?
A.To prove the author is knowledgeable. B.To show social media has disadvantages.
C.To advise the author to list what she thinks. D.To help the author solve her problem.
4.What will happen if schools post kids’ pictures online according to the author?
A.Teachers will take on extra work. B.Parents will have lots of things to do
C.Kids’ safety will be protected effectively. D.Kids will become famous due to clicks.

It’s school time again! You’re probably feeling excited and maybe a little sad that summer is over. Some kids feel nervous or a little scared(害怕) on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and even a new school. Luckily, these “new” worries only stick around for a little while. Let’s find out more about going to a new school.
Most teachers kick off the new school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the stuff you’ll be doing that year. Some teachers give students a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class, too. When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often go over classroom rules and school rules so you’ll know what’s allowed and what’s not. Please pay close attention.
You might already know a lot of people in your classes on the first day, but it’s a great day to make a new friend, so try to say hello to kids you know and new ones that you don’t. Make the first move and you’ll be glad you did, and so will your new friend!
Seeing friends you haven’t seen for some time can make the first day a good one. You can make the day feel special by wearing clothes that you really like. Maybe you got a great T-shirt on one of your vacations, or a pair of sneakers(运动鞋). It also can make you feel good to be prepared and have all the things you need, such as pencils, folders, and whatever else you’ll be needing. But make sure that you pack them the night before in case you don’t have time in the morning.
1.The underlined phrase “kick off” in the second paragraph probably means “________”.
A.start B.study C.find D.teach
2.The last paragraphs mainly tell us about ________.
A.what to know about a new school
B.how to prepare for a new school
C.what to do on your first day of school
D.how to spend your first day of school
3.According to the passage you usually do everything on the first day of school except _______.
A.introduce yourself B.learn about the school rules
C.make new friends D.go over your new lessons
4.If you happen to see an old friend on the first day of school, from the passage we know that you will feel ________.
A.nervous B.lucky C.happy D.excited

It’s generally agreed that heroes are great and always admired by common people. However, most of us have no clear idea about heroes. At some point, we all wonder if we need a hero and what a hero really is.
Although there are a lot of differences in cultures, heroes around the world generally share a number of characteristics (特点) which give us courage and make us want to learn from them. A hero does something worth talking about. A hero usually put others before and does his/her best to help people in need. A hero has a special story to tell and is thought highly of by people.
But a hero is not just the person with great fame (名声). A hero has powers larger than himself/herself. Some people want to live like a hero, and they have to experience life with new and further meaning. A sure test for would-be heroes is what or whom they serve. What do they want to live and die for? If the answer suggests they serve only their own fame, they may be famous persons but not heroes.
A hero has a vision (视野) from the mountaintop. He/She has the power to move people. He/She creates new possibilities. Without Gandhi, India might still be part of Britain. Without Martin Luther King, Jr., Americans might take different buses, eat in different restaurants, go for walks in different parks, and shop in different stores because of the different colors of their skin.
There might be changes in society without a hero, but the speed of change would be rather slow. Thanks to heroes in history, they make the society develop so rapidly.
1.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.How to be a hero. B.What a hero is like.
C.The fame of a hero. D.The lifestyle of a hero.
2.What is a sure test for people who want to be heroes?
A.What or whom they serve. B.Money they make in all.
C.Experience they get for life. D.How or when to serve others.
3.Why did Americans take different buses before Martin Luther King, Jr.?
A.Because they liked different buses.
B.Because of the rules of bus companies.
C.Because of the different colors of their skin.
D.Because they made different amount of money.
4.What can we learn from the text?
A.We don’t need heroes any more.
B.People living just for fame can be heroes.
C.Heroes make the society develop slowly.
D.Heroes are able to create new possibilities.
