The spring season brings warm weather, flowers and other changes for people to enjoy. For some restaurant cooks, the most exciting spring arrival is ramps.
Ramps are a wild plant in the eastern mountains of North America. They are one of the first plants that grow in the spring. Usually between April and May. They are recognized (识别) by their red stem (茎), and two long and wide green leaves. They are also famous for their strong taste, similar to onions(洋葱).
Ramps are not as well-known as other vegetables, but they have a long history in the United States. In the Appalachian Mountains, ramps have been an important food for a long time. During spring it is common for small towns in the Appalachian area to hold large ramp dinners for the community.
However, over the last 30 years, ramps popularity has grown quickly. They are now a highly-desired vegetable for many nice restaurants in cities like New York and Washington D. C.
One reason the plant is popular is that it grows in the wild. It is difficult to grow them on farms. Most restaurants get them from foragers, who collect ramps by searching forests for some small pieces of land where they grow. Ramps have a short season. Within a few weeks of full growth, the plant is done for the year. This short life is some reason for their popularity.
And that popularity could lead to their disappearance from Earth. In 1995, the local government in Quebec, Canada stopped people selling the plant to businesses in order to protect the plant against being over-dug.
The season is short, but it has not ended yet. If you are in the right place, You still have time to try a taste of ramps yourself.

2.Which of the following is the picture of a ramp?

3.What does the word "they" refer to(指的是) ?

The traditional Chinese calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. In China, the 24 solar terms were created thousands of years ago to guide agricultural(农业的)production. The ship will finally be pulled out of the port and burned at sea. People believe that is a symbol of good harvests and health.
Great Heat is a season with most crickets(蟋蟀)in the countryside. Cricket fighting is popular game for some people in China during this period. The custom dates back over 1,000 years ago.

Choose the best answer and complete the passage (选择最恰当的选项完成短文)
“DRINK your milk. It’s good for you!” You’ve probably heard that many times, and it’s true. Milk contains calcium(钙), which is necessary for keeping bones and teeth healthy and strong. The US government even _______ milk as part of the National School Lunch Program, saying that students should drink one cup of fat - free or low - fat milk every meal.
However, a group of doctors asked the government to take it away from the lunch program. The US ‘Physician Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM)’ says, “Milk is high in sugar, fat and animal protein,” all of which are not so _______ to health. There are better ways to get calcium, such as eating beans and drinking orange juice and soymilk. “One of the only _______ people prefer milk is because it is going to help build strong bones,” says Dr Neal Barnard, president of the PCRM. But milk may not be the best way to get calcium your body needs.
Of course, calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth, but there are other things that have _______ to do with your bone strength, such as genes(基因), how much vitamin D you take in, and time, getting an hour’s exercise every day.
Some people disagree with the idea that milk isn’t important. Keri Gans, an American Dietitian(营养学家), says “I don’t think it’s _______ if we take away this drink from the lunch line. Children enjoy it very much, especially among those who are unable to meet their nutrient(营养的)needs for the day.”
The US government is now considering PCRM’s idea, but _______ may be a long way off. A professor at New York University puts it best: “Milk certainly has nutrients. Other food has the same nutrients. It’s just food. As with other food, too much might be a problem.”

An old saying goes ”Laughter is the best medicine.” It’s true that laughter is really good for our health. So, the next time you’re feeling stressed, try to laugh a lot, ①develop a sense of humor and watch funny films.
The Comic Relief charity, an organization that helps people in need, uses laughter to raise money. Every two years in spring, many English people put on a red nose, make a fool of themselves and do ”silly” things to make themselves and others laugh. Examples of silly things you can do are:
Invite friends round to your house to watch funny films. They have to pay to watch the films—those with the most comfortable chairs pay more—and for food and drinks.
Hold a talent show at school and ask your friends and teachers to sing, dance or tell jokes. Sell tickets for the show to the rest of the school.
Have a red nose party at your house. All your friends come dressed in red—including red nose—and your serve red food and drinks. If they don’t wear red, they have to pay a fine.
Get the students in your school to make funny sculptures(雕塑)using all kinds of materials. Sell tickets to your Red Nose Day exhibition and part of the money goes to Comic Relief.

My mother told me a good friend is like a mirror. I'm quieter and more serious than most kids. That's why I like reading books and I study harder in class. My best friend Yuan Li is quiet too, so we enjoy studying together. I'm shy so it's not easy for me to make friends. But I think friends are like books--you don't need a lot of them as long as they're good.

It's not necessary to be the same. My best friend Larry is quite different from me. He is taller and more outgoing than me. We both like sports, but he plays tennis better, so he always wins. However, Larry often helps to bring out the best in me. So I'm getting better at tennis. Larry is much less hard-working, though. I always get better grades than he does, so maybe I should help him more.
