My mother is cool — much cooler than most people. I give her full credit for making me the person who I am today. To thank her, I'd like to share some of the things she taught me.
1. 1.
No matter how hard things got, my mom could always joke about them. It has taught me things are never, ever, end-of-the-world kind of bad. I'm sure this has made me a more relaxed person.
2. 2.
My mother made her own clothes she felt like wearing. Soon enough, people asked her to make clothes, and it turned into a full-time business. That shows me how you can set up your own business by expressing yourself truthfully.
3. 3.
As a creative, my mother always encouraged us to do imaginative things for enjoyment and discouraged TV. We dressed up in costumes, drew pictures, and sang at the top of our lungs. Today, I am a very fun person to be with.
4. 4.
My mom has always pushed me towards becoming independent. Not for her good, but for mine. I made my own decisions without her trying to manage me. Because of this, I grow up to be completely independent.
5. 5.
Growing up, I've made my fair share of mistakes. Instead of saying "I told you so", my mom always let me work things out myself. She was also there to help me pick up the pieces, if I ever needed help.
For all that you've done and everything that you are—thank you, mom!

The first day of school a new classmate touched my shoulder, “Hi, handsome﹗I’m Rose. I am 87 years old. Can I give you a hug? I turned around and found a little lady with a warm smile. I said heartily:” Of course﹗”
“Why are you in college at such an age?” I asked.
She joked, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, have children, and then travel around.”
“No seriously,” I asked.
“I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’ getting one!” she told me.
Over the year, Rose became an icon(偶像) and she easily made friends. She loved to dress up and she enjoyed the attention of the others. At the end of the term we invited Rose to our football party. I’ll never forget what she said.
“We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. Here are the secrets to stay young. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die! There's a huge difference between growing old and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. But growing up requires finding the opportunity in change. Have no regrets.”

There was a story many years ago of a school teacher-Mrs. Thompson. She told the children on the first way that she loved them all the same. But that was a lie. There in the front row was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard. He didn't play well with the other children and he always needed a bath. She did not like him.
Then Mrs. Thompson got to know that Teddy was actually a very good boy before the death of his mother. Mrs. Thompson was ashamed (羞耻) of herself. She felt even worse then, like all her other students, Teddy brought her a Christmas present too. It was his mother's perfume (香水).
Teddy said, “Mrs. Thompson, today you smell just like my Mom used to.” After the children left she cried for at least an hour. On that very day, she stopped teaching reading, writing and math. Instead, she began to teach children. Mrs. Thompson paid much attention to Teddy. The boy's mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he improved. By the end of the sixth grade, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class.

He went to college. Mrs. Thompson got two more letters from him with the last one signed, Theodore F Stoddard, M. D.(医学博士).
The story doesn't end there. On his wedding(婚礼)day, Dr. Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson's cat, “Thank you, Mrs. Thompson, for believing in me. You made me feel important and showed me that I could make a difference.”
Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back, “Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you.”
