Like all big cities, Paris has a traffic problem: lots of traffic jams and lots of pollution from exhaust fumes. So in 2007, the city began a scheme(计划) to improve the situation.
Under the Velib scheme(bicycle freedom), people can take a bicycle, use it for as long as they want, and then leave it at the same or another bicycle station. The first half-hour on the bike is free, but if you don’t return it after 30 minutes, you have to pay. But it’s only 1 euro a day or 29 euros a year! The bicycles are heavy (25 kilograms). They are all grey and have baskets. There are about 20,000 of them in the city, and around 1,450 bicycle stations. So there are a lot more Velib stations than the 298 metro stations!
Paris is not the first city to have a scheme like this — not even in France. Many years ago, Lyon started a free bicycle scheme. However, not everybody in Paris thinks it’s a great idea. One Parisian said, “These bicycles are only for short journeys. If people want to travel across the city, they won’t use a bicycle; they’ll still use their cars.”
A city spokesman said, “The bicycle scheme won’t solve all of our traffic problems, of course. But it might reduce pollution levels in the atmosphere. Traffic, together with factory fumes, is a big problem. Everyone knows about global warming. We know this is partly because rainforests are disappearing, but it’s also because there’s so much pollution in the world. We can help improve the situation right here. The Velib bikes might help people to lead a healthier life, too.”
“There aren’t any simple answers to traffic problems and pollution in cities,” the spokesman added. “But unless we do something now, there will be more traffic jams and temperatures will continue to rise. The problems in our environment will only get worse.”

A.Traffic is not the only cause of global warming.

Dear Died,
Today I was at the shopping centre and I spent a lot of time reading the Father’s Day cards. But as I chose add read, and chose add read again, it seemed that not a single card said what I really wanted to you.
You’ll soon be 84 years old, Dad,and you and I will have had 56 Father’s Days together. I didn't think that you were too old. But the sad thing happened last week. I watched as you turned at the corner in your car. I didn’t realize at once that it was you because the man who was driving looked so elderly.
Fifty years ago this spring, we planted carrots together in a garden in Charles City, Iowa. This week, we’ll plant carrots together again, perhaps for the last time but I hope not. I don’t understand why planting carrots with you is so important to me. Well, I don't quite know how to tell you this, dad … I don't like carrots.... but I like planting them with you.
I guess what am trying to say, Dad, is what every son and daughter wants to say to their dad today. Praising a father on Father's Day is about more than a dad who brings home, money or shares a dinner. It’s more about a dad deeply loving children who know everything and won't listen to anyone. It's about sharing. It’s about loving someone more than words can say, and I wish that it would never end.
Lover,
Jenny

I was walking home from work on a busy city street with lots of people. I wasn't looking forward to going home, because my friends were busy with their own business and weren't able to spend time lazily with me. It's then when I walked past a homeless person that I hadn't seen before. He was moving back and forth(来回的)to stay warm, and very gently asking for some change. His words for money were so quiet that I could hardly hear him.
Something made me stop, turn around and walk up to him. At the same time, some thoughts appeared in my head like, "What do you think you're doing?" "You're alone, it's dark out and you're a woman. "Before I knew what I was doing, I asked him if he had had dinner yet and if he would like to join me at a nearby restaurant. He said he hadn't eaten and he would like to. So, he walked with me a few yards to the restaurant and held the door open for me as we entered.
He asked for the smallest thing on the menu but I ordered a larger meal and I explained that the price wasn't worth worrying about. We had a good dinner and a pleasant conversation about our life like where we grew up and what kind of music we liked. During the whole time, I just tried to say the right thing and give him the respect and care everyone has. I didn't want to show that I was better than him.
I was so grateful for this experience. I may not have met my friends that evening but I met an unexpected friend and the experience changed my life. It will make me think twice in future before I complain about something I don't have.
1.Why was the homeless man moving back and forth?
A.To look for some money. B.To wait for his friends.
C.To keep himself warm. D.To make people notice him.
2.What did the writer ask the homeless man to do?
A.To have a dinner with her. B.To ask change with her.
C.To take a walk with her. D.To go to work with her.
3.What did the writer learn from her experience?
A.She should live better than the homeless man.
B.She should do more for homeless people.
C.She would care more about her friends.
D.She would let herself complain less.
