Recently, some Chinese experts advised people to be more careful about making a “V” gesture (手势) while taking a photo, because the fingerprints(指纹) might be stolen.
It is possible. If the distance(距离) between the person and the smart phone is less than half a meter, the possibility of the fingerprint being stolen will be bigger.Having fingerprints stolen can cause a lot of trouble, as they are used in many things, including ID cards, passports and online payments. So it’s a must to pay attention to the protection of them and avoid them being spread on the Internet.
This kind of discussion was first raised by a Japanese research center, the National Institute of Informatics.
Zeng Qiaoyi, 19, who likes sharing selfies(自拍) on WeChat, said she was also worried about it.She said she seldom posted pictures with “V” gestures and most pictures she shared were made to be not so clear by certain software.“ I blur the backgrounds in selfies, hoping to hide my location,” she added.
Tan Tieniu, a scientist, said at the 2016 China National Computer Congress that using fingerprints instead of passwords or voice identification is far from safe, compared with face recognition (识别).
But a police officer from Jiangsu Province said locals didn’t need to be overly anxious, because the cameras of many cell phones were not clear enough, and the shooting distance of most photos taken by cameras was too far.

Are you aged between 14 and 19 years old? Do you care about the environment around you? Would you please help make the area you live in cleaner and safer?
If your answers are “yes”, “yes” and “yes”, then read on! You may be surprised to hear that you can actually (事实上) get money for improving your community (社区).
The “Big Lottery” is giving money to groups of teenagers who want to become active citizens(公民). We have £80,000 to give away. We’re looking for young people to take part in schemes (规划) and projects near to the places they live in.
Here are some easy things you could do to get started:
Meeting the neighbors
Everybody needs good neighbors. Knock on people’s doors and find out what they need to improve in your areas. Set a date for a meeting and then make some plans together. If you don’t want to go around to their houses, you could always put a note through their doors.
Neighborhood watch
Neighborhood watch schemes are very popular in the UK. If you go away on holiday and leave your house, it’s very nice to know that a neighbor is keeping an eye on it. You could set one up easily and quickly.
Lending a hand
There are elderly people living in the neighborhood who may not be able to do the things that you can. Offer to do their shopping once a week, look after their gardens or walk their dogs!
No littering
Nobody likes picking up rubbish, but a clean street can make all the difference. Take it in turns to go out once or twice a week and see what you can find. You never know, one day you might find something valuable!
Recycling
Nearly two-thirds of your rubbish can be recycled. Some areas already provide places for people to recycle bottles, tins, plastic and paper. Find out if this is done in your neighborhood. If it is not, do something about it.
So go on…help make your neighborhood “street ahead”. Just tell us what kind of project you want to get involved in. Then we’ll send you more details. Take positive (积极的) action and help make your neighborhood a better place to live in!
1.What is the passage mainly about?
A. Why we should care about the elderly people in our community.
B. What we can do to improve the environment of our community.
C. How we can recycle daily rubbish properly in our community.
D. When we should get the neighbors together to meet their needs.
2.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The writer doesn’t agree to work for the “street ahead”.

B. The writer is a member of the “Big Lottery”.
C. Communities will take the place of schools.
D. The writer is the manager of the community.

How green are you? Do you care about protecting the environment and saving energy? We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day and it does harm to our environment. Though we are young, we can still do something to help. In fact, even the simplest everyday activities can make a real difference to the environment. Here are some ideas for you. Remember these three words: Reduce, reuse and recycle.
REDUCE
Reduce means “use less.” Don’t waste things. This saves money and reduces pollution and waste going into the environment. Before we buy something new, think whether it is really necessary--- or maybe the old one will be just as good! When we do buy things, choose local produces if possible, and try not to buy too many things form abroad. It may cost a lot of money to bring them to us.
REUSE
Reuse means “use again.” Use things for as long as possible. When we buy things, make sure that they last a long time. We should look after them so that they will last, and we should repair them if we can instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Don’t use a paper cup or a paper bag. It’s better to use a china cup and a lunch box because you can use them again.
RECYCLE
Recycle means “change things into something else.” Although it takes energy to change something into something else, it’s better than throwing things away or burning them. Find out what can be recycled in your neighbourhood and take part in recycling programmes. We should also buy products made from recycled materials, such as recycled paper, to help save trees.
1.Why is it better to choose local products if possible?
A. Things from abroad do harm to our environment
B. Local products are much cheaper
C. To choose local products means that we love our country
D. Things from abroad aren’t necessary
2.According to the passage, when we find our clothes are out of fashion, what should we do?
A. Throw them away
B. If they are still suitable, keep them
C. Clean the floor with them
D. Give them to others and buy new ones
3.What is the helpful activity in our daily life?
A. To shop with plastic bags
B. To use paper cups
C. To collect old newspapers
D. To burn fallen leaves
4.According to the passage, which of the following is RIGHT?
A. We should learn to grow vegetables
B. People mustn’t produce waste any more

Many people think of the brain as a mystery. They don’t know much about intelligence and how it works. When they do think about what intelligence is, many people believe that a person is born smart, average, or dumb—and stays that way in the whole life. But new research shows that the brain is more like a muscle(肌肉)—it changes and gets stronger when you use it. And scientists have been able to show just how the brain grows and gets stronger when you learn.
Everyone knows that when you lift weights, your muscles get bigger and you get stronger. A person who can’t lift 20 pounds when he/she starts exercising can get strong enough to lift 100 pounds after working out for a long time. That’s because the muscles become larger and stronger with exercise. And when you stop exercising, the muscles shrink(收缩)and you get weaker. That’s why people say “Use it or lose it!”
But most people don’t know that when they practice and learn new things, parts of their brain change and get larger a lot like muscles do when they exercise. Inside the cortex(皮层)of the brain are billions of tiny nerve(神经元)cells(细胞),called neurons. The nerve cells have branches connecting them to other cells in a complicated(复杂)network. Communication between these brain cells is what allows us to think and solve problems. When you learn new things, these tiny connections in the brain actually multiply and get stronger. The more you challenge your mind to learn, the more your brain cells grow. Then, things that you once found very hard or even impossible to do —like speaking a foreign language or doing algebra(代数)—seem to become easy after learning them for a period of time. The result is a stronger, smarter brain.
Scientists started thinking that the human brain could develop and change when they studied animals’ brains. They found out that animals that lived in a challenging environment were more “perspicacious”—they were better at solving problems and learning new things.
1.According to the first paragraph, .
A.the function(作用)of our brain is like that of the muscle
B.until now it’s impossible to explain the brain’s mystery
C.many people believe one’s intelligence is naturally determined(决定)
D.one’s brain grows stronger as the age increases
2.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The complicated structure of the brain.
B.How changes in the muscles affect the brain.
C.The importance of the brain.
D.How the brain becomes stronger by learning new things.
3.What does the underlined word “perspicacious” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Strong. B.Smart. C.Popular. D.Active.
4.The paragraph that follows the passage will most probably talk about .
A.the differences between animals’ brains and humans’ brains
B.the relation between human brains and muscles
C.scientists’ findings about animals’ brains
D.how to make your brain smarter through self-development
