Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that thankfulness is indeed a virtue (美德).

Yes, his picture was different. When he was asked to draw a picture of something for which he was thankful, he drew a . Nothing else. Just an empty hand.
His abstract (抽象的) picture caught the of his classmates. Whose hand could it be? One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers turkeys. Another suggested a police officer, because the police protect and people. Still others guessed it was the hand of God, for God feeds us. And so the discussion went on — until the teacher almost forgot the young artist .
When the children had gone on to other assignments, she stopped at Douglas’ desk, bent down, and him whose hand it was. The little boy looked away and murmured, “It’s yours, teacher.”
She recalled the when she had taken his hand and walked with him here or there, as she had the other students. How she had said, “Take my hand, Douglas, we’ll go outside.” Or, “Let me show you how to hold your pencil.” Or, “Let’s do this together.” Douglas was very for his teacher’s hand. Brushing aside a tear, she went on with her work.
The story speaks of more than thankfulness. It says something about teachers teaching and parents parenting and friends showing friendship, and how much it means to the Douglases of the world. They might not always say thanks, but they’ll remember the hand that out.

In our lives, we sometimes say or do something that may hurt others. Then we need to apologize(道歉). Making an apology helps to improve an injured friendship.
We are already familiar with some expressions for apologizing, such as “Excuse me” or “I'm sorry”. There are also other ways to apologize, such as “Pardon” and “I apologize”. When you have missed your friend's party, you might say, “I was really busy that day and just couldn't make it. I sincerely(真诚地) apologize.” When you get angry with someone and realize you are wrong, you may say, “I am sorry. I apologize for my poor attitude.”
When a person apologizes to you, it is necessary to reply politely, “It's all right,” or “Never mind.” If the situation is more serious and the person is really sincere, you might say, “I understand how you feel,” or “We all make mistakes.”
Sometimes people apologize not for having done something wrong, but for the inconvenience(不便)they have caused. On the building under repair you may see signs reading, “We are rebuilding our store to serve you better. Please pardon our dust.” In the supermarket you may hear a salesperson say, “I'm sorry it has been sold out today. Would you please come tomorrow?”
People sometimes are embarrassed to make an apology, because they do not want to lose face. Yet there are ways to make an “indirect apology”. Making an apology on the phone s or direct very personal way of apologizing, but it is sometimes the best choice. If one is not so familiar with the other and they might feel there is a chance of unpleasantness, some “distance” is often safer and understandable.
Learning how to apologize is important in our life. We don't lose face when we apologize. Instead, we'd lose face if we never say sorry for our mistakes.

Sometimes it seems that time is flying. Perhaps it doesn’t need to feel this way. Our experience of time can be possibly changed. By understanding the psychological (心理学的) processes behind our different experiences of time, we might be able to slow down time a little.
One basic law of psychological time is that time seems to slow down when we’re exposed(接触) to new environments and experiences. The law is caused by the relationship between our experience of time and the amount of information our minds process. The more information our minds take in, the slower time seems to pass.
It follows, then, that we have different experiences of time in different situations. In some situations, our life is full of new experiences. Our minds process a lot of information and time seems to slow down. In other situations, we have fewer new experiences and the world around us becomes more and more familiar(熟悉的). We become insensitive to our experience, which means we process less information, and time seems to speed up.
How can we slow down time? Here are two suggestions.
Firstly, since we know that familiarity makes time pass faster, we can expose ourselves to as many new experiences as possible. We can give ourselves new challenges, meet new people, and expose our minds to new information, hobbies and skills. This will increase the amount of information our minds process and expand (增加) our experience of time.
Secondly, and perhaps most effectively, we can give our whole attention to an experience-to what we are seeing, feeling, tasting, smelling or hearing. This means living through our senses rather than through our thoughts. For example, on the way home, focus your attention outside of yourself, instead of thinking about the problems you have to deal with. Look at the sky, or at the buildings you pass, traveling among them. This open attitude to your experiences helps take in more information and also has a time-expanding effect.
To a certain degree, we can understand and control our experience of time passing. It’s possible for us to slow down time by expanding our experience of time.
1.According to the writer, we can expand our experience of time by .
A.going to bed on time B.traveling to new places
C.having dinner as usual D.printing the same materials
2.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Being familiar with the world around helps us get more information.
B.Understanding psychological time makes life pass more quickly.
C.We can take in more information by living through our senses.
D.We should build a stronger relationship between time and us.
3.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Slow Down Time B.Only Time Will Tell
C.Race Against Time D.Time Will Not Come Twice

We all know that we need water to live. Up to 75% of our bodies is water and we need to drink water every day to be healthy! So what will happen to the Earth’s water if global warming (全球变暖)gets worse?
About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. When the temperature of the Earth rises, the temperature of the water rises, too. Higher water temperatures will kill the underwater plants and tiny fish. But it’s not just the fish! Higher temperatures also have an influence on animals on land. Some scientists think that because of global warming, two thirds of the world’s polar bears will never be seen on our planet by 2050.
Global warming makes the weather change, too. In some places, there will be less rain. This will cause deserts to be larger. In other places, the rain will become very strong and heavy, so we will have less farmland and not enough food for humans.
Global warming is a big problem. But we can help by making small changes like turning off the water, lights, and TV when we aren’t using them!
1.How much of the Earth’s surface is covered with water?(不超过5个词)

2.What will happen to the underwater plants and tiny fish when water temperatures get higher?(不超过10个词)
