Have you ever heard of Stonehenge( 巨石阵 )? These ancient huge stones have been standing on the Salisbury Plains(索尔兹伯平原 ) in England for thousands of years. Who build Stonehenge? Some people said that the ancient Greeks built it. Some people said that it was a site where UFO landed. It’s still a mystery.
However, it is clear that the first stones arrived at Stonehenge around the same time as the ancient Egyptians were building the pyramids. These stones can only be found in South Wales, nearly 150 miles away. It was a huge job to move these stones far from Wales because originally there were about 80 of them here at Stonehenge. And each of the stone weighs about forty tons. To move one of these forty-ton stones, we need at least 150 people.
However, building Stonehenge was much more difficult. It is not just simply one stone piled on to top of another, they’re joined together.
Though many of the stones have fallen, Stonehenge still attracts nearly five thousand tourists every day. And after nearly 5000 years Stonehenge is still standing. It is sure that Stonehenge has something to do with the summer and winter solstices (夏至日/冬至日). Nature may well know all the answers, but science has yet to prove its theories. It seems Stonehenge isn’t ready to tell all its secrets yet.

Though water does not seem all that exciting, it is very valuable. The Ancient Greek people believed all the fresh water on the Earth came from a river called Okeanos. They imagined that clouds collected rain from its magical waters (海域). The reason they believed in this is because water is important for humans, Doctors say that without water we would die in about one week.
There are two places that our fresh water comes from. The first is surface water, which includes all the water in lakes or rivers. The second is groundwater, which refers to all the water that comes from under the ground.
Water must be treated before it can come out of the tap (水龙头). First, anything harmful in the water must be removed. Then a cleaning agent (净化剂) is added. This will destroy any remaining germs (细菌).
There have been reports of factories in China letting waste water leak into the ground. Industrial waste water is a big problem as it can pollute our drinking water. Even if the water is treated, it is unfit for drinking. The Ministry of Environmental Protection has improved the water in China since 2004. In 2011, 76 percent of water was safe for dinking. But treated water should always be boiled before drinking.
Some countries have more fresh water resources (资源) and this means that it is easier for them to treat their water.
A report from a British Consulting Firm called Maplecroft found that Iceland has the best fresh water supply in the world. That is because most of the tap water in Iceland comes from pure mountain springs. No treatment of any kind is required before Icelandic people drink their delicious water.

Millions of people visit Machu Picchu each year. It is an ancient Inca city in the mountains of Peru. Steep(陡峭的) steps and rough paths make the trip a challenge. It used to be nearly impossible for people with a physical disability.
Wheel the World has changed that. The company offers wheel-chair- accessible(可以使用轮椅的) tours of Machu Picchu and other places around the world. “Normally people with disabilities would think that these kinds of places are not possible for them,” Camilo Navarro told reporters. He set up Wheel the World with his best friend, Alvaro Silberstein. Silberstein uses a wheel chair.
Navarro and Silberstein started Wheel the World after hiking Torres del Paine in 2016. It is a national park in Chile. Today, Wheel the World runs 40 wheelchair-accessible trips in 55 countries. The company offers cars and hotels with ramps(轮椅). It directs people to accessible(可进入的) bathrooms. It even teaches local guides to help wheelchair users get around.
Wheel the World uses a special wheelchair for the Machu Picchu trip. It can be pushed like a wheelbarrow(独轮车). It also folds up(折叠) and can be put into a car easily. “It's a super strong wheelchair. It allows you to get to every corner in all kinds of places,” Navarro says. “Wherever somebody with a disability want to go, we can get there with that wheelchair.”
