“When I grow up, I want to be...”
Almost all of us have thought about,or been asked to think about, our future careers. Our answers may differ greatly. Even now your aspirations(志向,抱负)may have changed from when you were in primary school.
However,it seems that career choices aren't only based on personal taste. In a survey carried out by Teens, doctors, lawyers, and bankers were some of most popular careers that people said they hoped to follow. This is similar to a survey carried out in the UK in May 2016 by job website—Co.uk,in which medicine was the top choice among UK teenagers aged between 13 and 17.
Medicine and law are two of the oldest and best known professions. Their prestige (威望) may come from the fact that doctors and lawyers are muchrespected members of society, and they make good money. What's more, these professions are often seen as a sign of upward social class.
It is equally unsurprising that banking is now one of the most common career choices. Youngsters worldwide think of banking and see the money rolling in. Wealth is increasingly becoming one of the most important indicators(标志) of a successful career.
However, not every child has the makings of doctor, lawyer, or banker. They are those who see achievement and happiness in other areas. As the Teens' survey discovered,a variety of unconventional(非传统的) jobs—coffee shop owner, waiter at a fast food restaurant—are among teenagers' career choices. They can be equally interesting and rewarding jobs.
With every choice comes responsibility and challenge, and all career paths require specific education and training, you have to learn to balance optimism(乐观主义)and confidence with being realistic about your particular talents and skills.
1. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Careers in teenagers' mind.
B. Choosing a good job is very important.
C. Teenagers in the UK like doctors.
D. The choice of career needs challenge.
2.What is the top career choice among UK teenagers aged between 13 and 17 according to the article?
A. Medicine. B. Law. C. Bank. D. Education.
3. All of the following are the benefits of being a doctor or a lawyer except .
A. respect from others
B. the oldest profession
C. high pay
D. upward social class
4. What can be learned from the last two paragraphs?
A. Careers such as waiters are not as rewarding as doctors and lawyers.
B. Specific education and training can help get a good job.
C. Responsibility is the most important when you choose a good job.
D. Optimism and confidence is more important than being realistic when choosing careers.

Doing What You Love
What do you want to be when you grow up? 1. When asked the question, did you have an answer at the ready, or did you need a few minutes to think about it? We all have dreams of becoming something great, like a fireman, a teacher, or a rock star. Well, how did you do? Maybe you never desire to be what you set out to be or said that you would become. 2.
The older we get, our tastes change, our view of the world changes, even our goals change.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned during my career path is to do something you love to do. I feel that if you enjoy what you make a living at, you end up being happy in more ways than one. 3.
While no job or business is perfect, the important thing is to enjoy it, even learn from it. If you are unhappy in your current situation, why not take steps now to change it? 4. If you are already there, I applaud you. If not , realize that it may take some time to figure out what you really want to do, and even more time to actually get there. That’s all right! I can tell you from experience that finding and doing what you love are absolutely worth it. All of the research, training, and hands-on experience have made me a stronger, happier person.
5. You’ll be happier for it.Trust me. I promise you will never look back.
A. But then again, things change.
B. Do what you love and love what you do.
C. Life itself becomes much more interesting and fun.
D. You must have met with such situation as a little child.
E. Maybe you will find that the new job is more suitable for you.
F. Somewhere out there is a job or business that is perfect for you.
G. I’m sure you were asked this question at least once when you were a youngster.

How hard we have all prayed(祈祷) to grow up quickly, and looked forward to the happy days of being a grown-up and enjoying the many interests that a youth should have.
At last, you have grown up. At least you are no longer a child. They call you “young lady”. You then enjoy the pleasure of being a young lady. You are proud of being a grown-up teenager. People welcome you-this young lady-heartily. You are glad that your prayer has been answered.
But there is always something that troubles you a lot. You say; “Papa and Mama, give me some money please. My pocket money is all gone already.”
“No”, they say, “your age is a dangerous age. If you have too much money to spend, it won’t do you any good.” Then you have to stay at home because you dare not go out with an empty pocket.
Another time you tell your grandma, “Grandma, see, I am a grown-up now.”
“Good, now, you can sit here and knit (编织) this for me while I go and have a rest.” To show that you are no more a child, you have to sit there the whole afternoon doing the work, which only a grown-up can do. After an hour, you find it hard to do, and give the knitting basket back to your grandma. Your grandma criticizes your work. You hear what she says, “Such a big girl can’t do such easy work.” You wish then you were a child again.
But the fact is, you are growing up, and you can’t help it. That’s the way it goes!

For all dinner tables, a glass of milk seems to be a must. At least it was when I was growing up. It is widely believed that milk is a must in building strong bones and teeth. There’s no doubt that dairy products, especially milk, are high in protein and calcium, and Vitamin D and Vitamin A are added to most milk products.
While it’s well known that our bones need calcium, some studies suggest that high calcium intake doesn’t necessarily lower a person’s risk for fractures(骨折). A Harvard study found that people who drank two or more glasses of milk had no greater protection from breaking a bone than those who drank a glass or less a week.
There is no doubt that we need calcium. Some anti-dairy supporters claim dairy products can lead to heart disease. Much of this claim is based on high-fat dairy products, like cheese and cream, which may indeed lead to some health problems. Some studies have linked high milk intakes with a risk of prostate cancer; this seems also to be caused by high-fat dairy products, but not by dairy products in general.
Although milk has always been regarded as the most important thing we need for our bones, one of the most important things in strengthening bones and reducing the risk of osteoporosis(骨质疏松)is weight-bearing exercise, such as jogging, walking, and weight lifting.
Perhaps we should think of dairy products as less like a nutrient and more like a food. If you like it, eat it. If not, find something else to eat. Some claims may not be completely true. When I eat cream, I’m not thinking about calcium, protein, or any such thing. I’m thinking it is delicious.
1.What is the best title for this passage?
A.Milk: is it really necessary for children? B.The disadvantages of drinking milk.
C.Milk causes health problems. D.Milk: is it really good for the body?
2.For people who want to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, we can infer that the writer may suggest that they ________.
A.avoid milk with Vitamin D and Vitamin A added
B.spend some time exercising
C.take in as much calcium as possible
D.drink more than two glasses of milk every day
3.Based on the passage, we learn the writer may agree that ________.
A.milk is the most important thing that we need for our bones
B.children should not be permitted to eat cream
C.milk should be considered more like a food than a nutrient
D.children should drink milk whether they like it or not
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Some dairy products may harm our health.
B.Milk has the highest level of protein of any food.
C.The writer seldom drank milk when he was young
D.People who drink milk every day are at a high risk of getting a heart disease.
