Last weekend Victor joined in an interesting event at the Civic Center. It was the Bamboo Expo. "I advise that anyone who likes to learn about new things should go there next weekend. It's your last chance," Victor told his friends this morning.
Victor didn't think he would enjoy it very much, but he really did. He never dreamed that so many things could be made from bamboo. In countries such as China, Japan and India, people have used bamboo in many ways for thousands of years. One display at the Expo was set up as a bamboo hut, like many found in Southeast Asia. The walls were bamboo. The roof was covered with bamboo leaves. The pipes bringing water into the house and out into the fields were bamboo. So were the cooking pots, drinking cups and shoes. Even the bed was made of bamboo.
Victor also learned that it isn't just pandas that eat tender bamboo shoots. The shoots are eaten with rice by millions of people in Asia.
"Here in the US, we're just getting to ,know bamboo," Victor said. "We're starting to realize how useful this light but strong plant can be. I'll never think of bamboo in the same way again. Now I'll see it in my home, thanks to what I bought at the show. Check it out! There's much to see, buy and learn."
1.When will the Bamboo Expo end?
2.Did Victor think he would enjoy the Bamboo Expo before he went there?
3.How long have people in China, Japan and India used bamboo?
4.What's the Chinese meaning for the underlined words "a bamboo hut"?
5.What does Victor mainly tell us in this passage?

My class will put on a short play in English at the end of the year. Yesterday our English teacher gave us copies of the play.
“Choose a character in the play whom you’d like to be, ”she told us. “This afternoon learn a few lines of this part for homework. Then tomorrow you can say those lines in front of the class. Ill decide who play each part.”
I wanted to have one of the bigger parts in the play, so I choose the part of the king. He has a lot of lines to say. I learned them by heart.
This morning in our English lesson we had to say our lines. I acted the part of the king. When I said my lines, I put a lot of expression into my acting. I thought I acted really well.
Everyone in the class read a part and then the teacher who would play each part.
Many of the students in my class couldn’t act at all. They couldn’t even read without making lots of mistakes. I was sure that I would get a big part in the play.
However, the teacher gave me the part of a soldier. He has only one line. It is, “Yes, sir!”
I was very disappointed. At the end of the lesson I went up to her and asked her why I had such a small part.
“You put too much expression in your acting,” she said. “Good acting is not big acting. It is acting the audience can believe in.”
I think I know what she means.
1. What did the boy want to do in the play?
A. To get a morning eating part
B. To organize the play
C. To get a large acting part. D. To work the lights.
2.How did the boy feel when the teacher told the class they would put on a play?

I arrived in the UK last weekend to learn English. So far I have already made a few friends and had some traditional English food there. But after having three days of hamburgers, sandwiches and potatoes, I thought none could be more delicious than Chinese food, especially my favorite —huo guo. You can't imagine how excited I was when I got to know that there was going to be a free meal of hotpot to welcome the new students. On the way to the canteen, I seemed to smell huo guo in the air.
To my surprise, when I stepped into the room, I didn't see any sign of huo guo. Where was it?
With many questions in my head, I sat down to have the free meal. After talking with an English girl, I got to know that Chinese huo guo is completely different from hotpot. Chinese huo guo is written in two words-hot pot; and hotpot, one word, is a traditional English dish.
Hotpot is made from mutton and onion. On the top are pieces of potatoes. People put it in the oven all day in a heavy pot on a low heat. It takes very little effort to prepare. You can often see it at parties in the UK because it's easy to prepare for a large number of people and is not expensive.
Hotpot doesn't taste bad. However, I still miss huo guo-hot pot, two words!
