Nowadays, homeschooling has become popular in many countries for a variety of reasons. One of them is poor quality of education in public schools and it’s also because private schools are quite expensive. Some parents believe that because they know their child’s strengths and weaknesses, they can teach him or her better. Some parents prefer homeschooling so as to prevent their children from getting into bad company. There is another group of people who choose to educate their children at home because they want them to learn spirit and values of the family and also their religious beliefs. They also think that homeschooling would help in development of strong family bonds(家庭纽带).

However, there are some negative effects of homeschooling on students as well as parents.

Homeschooling is a full-time job and not fit for parents who have their own careers. It takes a lot of time for parents’ side to make homeschooling a success. Other family members’ responsibilities may also be affected. They may give their full attention to the needs of their children. Besides, a parent may have high educational qualifications, but that does not make him or her a good teacher. Teaching is an art, which requires the ability to understand the needs of the children. It is likely that the parent might have forgotten what he or she has learned, and the curriculum(课程) of the children would also be different. This would make it difficult for the parents to explain the concepts to their children. Parents also have the responsibility of designing the curriculum of students.

In today’s world, competition(比赛) is seen in every field, and school prepares children to face these competitions. However, homeschooling does not give the children a chance to compare with other kids. They will also not be aware of where they stand in educational position among their classmates. This may affect their future lives. Education is not the only thing that the children need to become successful human beings. It is necessary that they learn to communicate in the society, and public school provides them with such an environment, where they meet many people. Schools also provide children with a chance to take part in various activities to improve their overall development.

It is true that it has many benefits, but one must realize that school teaches children skills to face and survive.

Happiness is an abstract （抽象的）concept. When one thinks of a typically happy person, smiling, laughing and cheering are what usually come to mind. However, if people stop smiling or laughing, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are unhappy. Happiness has many different levels, and it is difficult to place the word in one type.

Many people believe as people grow older, they will feel more happiness. However, I just find they are not always so. When my twelve - year - old sister was asked what made her happy, she initially told me that sleeping made her happy, and then she looked at me for a reaction. When I had none, she changed her answer to food, then to fashion, and then finally to family. Each time she glanced at me, she looked for affirmation （肯定）that she had given a “right answer”

Considering the clear differences between my sister and cousin in their answers, I came to see that age didn't always largely contribute to happiness.

When I asked my grandmother what brought her happiness, she immediately answered my family” without hesitation. This is something I expected, as my grandma Is always a family -centered person. This is also consistent （一致的）with her culture, being from Italy and growing up during the 50s, when family values were at its highest point in society.

Asking myself this question, I think carefully about my answers. Sure, my family, friends and pets make me happy, but so do reading, writing and watching movies. This is why I have no answer to my own question.

Growing up in one of the toughest neighborhoods in New York City, my life was not always easy. My mother raised us in a city-owned apartment and my father suffered from drug problems. The first time I ever left New York City was for a school trip on a farm that Mr. Walker arranged for us. It was an overnight trip. We prepared for months by holding bake sales to raise money. Mr. Walker worked so hard. He wanted us to experience life outside of our own small world.

One day, Mr. Walker said we could put on a play in class. He said, “Waliek, this is your chance to show us what you’ve got, so if you want the lead part, you’d better go home and learn it by tomorrow.” I ran home and remembered the whole play in one night. I think I did this more for Mr. Walker. He knew that I wanted to be an entertainer (表演者) and he believed in me. So he gave me that chance.

Another day, the school had a special performance and we noticed that Mr. Walker brought a special briefcase with him. As the host called on him, our class became nervous with excitement and curiosity. He opened his special briefcase and pulled out a gold trumpet (喇叭). Before he started, he devoted his performance to all the students, especially our class. It was the most beautiful music I’d ever heard. I was so shocked and amazed.
