China hosted its first Olympic Games from August 8 to 24. More than 10,000 athletes were at the Games. They broke 38 world records. China won the most gold medals with 51.

The man in the picture is 47-year-old Barack Obama. This year he was elected President of America. He will also be the country’s first black president.
China’s Space Walk
Zhai Zhigang and his two partners got a warm welcome after leaving the Shenzhou Ⅶ spacecraft. On September 27, Zhai finished China’s first space walk. China has become the third country to walk in space, after the US and the former Soviet Union.

China is the first developing country to host the Olympic Games in modern Olympic history. It hopes to learn from other countries that have held Olympic Games. As well as new buildings, the government (政府) wants more people to work in all the services(服务) in Beijing. There are a lot more people in the city, because of all the visitors to the Olympics. The city also need more places to eat and drink, because visitors eat out a lot.

The Beijing organizers(组织者) make sure everything that is built for the Olympics can be used after the Games are over. When the Olympics are over, the people of Beijing can use the swimming pools and other Olympics sports centers.
