Over the past twenty years, American country music has become more and more popular. Song writers are no longer writing about the modern values of the USA—money, success or expensive things to buy. Instead, they are writing once more about things that are common for everyone: feeling alone in the modern world, the value of having good friends and so on.
In the 1950s, American music was about other things, for example, love—getting or losing a boyfriend or girlfriend. Money was also thought to be important.
Then in the 1960s, song writers turned to other subjects. During these years many young students were angry with society, so songs were often full of anger. Political leaders were not well thought of.
Today country music has returned. It has become big business and brings in between 200 and 400 million dollars a year. Once, the home of American country music was Nashville, Tennessee. Now, however, the music has reached all parts of the States, from Los Angeles in the west to New York in the east. Singers do not just come from the States but from all over the world. There are many famous singers from Britain, Canada and Australia. A lot of them appear on television too.
The first country singers sang while playing the guitar. It was easy for them to carry a guitar on their travels. Now, however, a lot of electrical equipment is needed for large theatres.
Country music today still remains very popular.

Why play games? Because they are fun, of course, and a lot more besides. Following the rules...planning your next move...acting as a team member...these are all “game” ideas that you will run into throughout your life.
Think about some of the games you played as a young child, such as hopscotch and hide-and-go-seek. These games are more than a hundred years old, and children all over the world play them.
The games of children’s cultures are entertaining and fun. But perhaps more importantly, they translate life into exciting dramas that teach children some of the basic rules they will be expected to follow the rest of their lives, such as taking turns and working together.
Many children’s games have a practical side. Children around the world play games that prepare them for work they will do as grown-ups. For example, some Saudi Arabian children live in the desert. They play a game called bones, which sharpens the hand-eye coordination (协调) needed in hunting.
Many sports encourage national or local pride. The most famous games of all, the Olympic Games, bring athletes from around the world together to take part in friendly competition. Audience wave flags, knowing that a gold medal is a win for an entire country, not just the athlete who earned it.
Sports are also a unifying event. Football is the most popular sport in the world. People on all continents play the game--some for fun and some for a living. Nicolette Iribarne, a football player from California, has discovered a way to spread hope through football. Iribarne created Futbol 4 Refugees after joining in an international football match. The aim of the group is to provide children living in refugee camps with footballs. Other groups such as Playing for Peace and Right to Play provide opportunities for children who otherwise might never play football or throw a Frisbee.
The next time you play your favorite game or sport, think about why you enjoy it. What skills are needed in your favorite game or sport? Do you think these skills will help you in other aspects of your life? But most importantly, the next time you play, have fun.

Motion sickness is caused by a disagreement between the eyes and ears: the inner ears notice movement. But the eyes, focused within a car or other vehicles, do not. Motion sickness often happens on ships and boats, but it can also affect kids when they travel in planes, buses, and cars. Here are some ways to help kids fight motion sickness:

★Try to avoid eating during short trips. For longer trips, have a small amount of drinks and eat light, small meals and snacks.
★If your child is feeling sick, provide some mild foods, like crackers(超薄饼干).
★Encourage kids to look outside the car, rather than inside. They should focus on still objects---not moving ones---or a far point.
★Keep the window open a little to allow fresh air in.
★Use a headrest to reduce head movement.

Kids are drawn to smoking for a lot of reasons — to look cool, act older, lose weight, or feel independent, but you can keep your child from getting addicted to tobacco. Here are a few points to keep in mind:
Discuss other topics in a way that doesn’t make your child fear punishment or judgment.
Stress what your child does right rather than wrong. Self-confidence is your child’s best protection against peer (同龄人) pressure.
Encourage your child to take part in activities that rule out smoking, such as sports.
When it comes to the dangers of tobacco use, it’s important to keep talking to your child about it over the years. Even the youngest child can understand that smoking is bad for the body.
Ask your child what he or she finds attractive or not attractive about smoking. Be a patient listener.
Read, watch television, and go to the movies with your child. Compare media images with what happens in reality.
Discuss ways to respond to peer pressure to smoke. Your child may feel confident simply saying “no”. But also offer your child responses such as, “It will make my clothes and breath smell bad.”
Encourage your child to walk away from friends who don’t recognize or respect his or her reasons for not smoking.
Explain how smoking affects the daily life of kids who start doing it. How do they afford the cigarettes? How do they have money to pay for other things they want? How does it affect their friendship?
Set firm rules that forbid smoking from your house and ______: Smokers smell bad, look bad, and feel bad, and it’s bad for everyone’s health.
