How to Survive Exam Stress
Exam time is one of the most stressful in school, whether it is high school, college or graduate school. Even the best students feel the pressure. The first sign of a problem while preparing for an exam is worry. 1. If we can get rid of worries, or at least control them, then we're in a much better position to do well on our tests. Take the following steps to survive exam stress and increase your overall performance as a result.
2. What causes you anxiety when you are studying? Too much noise? Then move to a quieter place. Delayed work? Catch up with your studies a couple nights before. That way you can save the final night before the exam to review and get a good night of sleep.
The second way to deal with worry is to displace thoughts. Suppose you wake up at three in the morning and you're worried about an exam. What do you do? 3. Doing something productive might allow you to sleep better when you finally do go back to bed.
Another way to displace negative thoughts is to do something physically active. Work out. Take a quick walk or a nice run. 4. For example, I might worry about the exam having surprise questions that I'm not prepared to answer. But I can shove those thoughts aside by reminding myself that I've taken many exams and I've handled surprise questions before.
The third option is to treat the symptoms. Keep things in perspective. Think of one final exam that causes you the most anxiety. Now think of the worst thing that could happen. If you've prepared, then likely the worst grade you could get is a C. And, if you've been applying what we've been talking about, then you'll likely to do no worse than a B. 5.
A. How bad is that really?
B. The first is to delete the causes.
C. Another idea is to think positive thoughts.
D. Worry robs us of energy, focus and motivation.
E. How about getting up and studying for an hour?
F. What we should do is to think positively and get rid of it.
G. So just face the result bravely and make an effort to improve your grade.

The most wonderful time of the year (the Christmas season) is also the most stressful for lots of people struggling to fit in increased end-of-the-year workloads, holiday parties, shopping, guest hosting, travel, and seeing friends and relatives who you’d otherwise avoid. Luckily, the same coping mechanisms that can help relieve stress and find better balance during the year also work for this holiday.
Here are four tips to finding work—life balance during this season.
1. Know and avoid your stressors(压力源).
If cooking for a large group, baking cookies, or Christmas shopping are your key stressors, don’t do them. Lots of grocery stores will help cater your next holiday meal. Bakeries exist for a reason, and gift cards are much appreciated by all. Stop trying to live up to someone else’s expectations of the holidays and stay merry by outsourcing the pain points.
2. Get flexible at work.
If you normally travel an hour each way at work, see if your boss will let you work from home in this special season to save time, get more done, and reduce your stress. Or ask if you can start work from home in the mornings and come to the office later in the day to avoid peak hours. Leave early and finish your day from the comfort of home, too.
3. Make your own list and check it twice.
Make a to-do list for yourself, for both work and life, then divide it up into categories like “must do,” “want to do,” and “feel obligated to do.” If you can remove any or all of your required list, the rest of your to-dos will start to look a lot easier.
Once you have your lists in order, it’s time to start crossing things off. In between your must-dos tasks, include a want-to-do task to break things up and re-energize yourself. Yes, this holiday is a time to give back to others and be selfless, but there’s still a bit of “self” in selflessness, isn’t there?
4. If you start to feel a cold coming on, come to a full and complete stop.
The best way to stop a cold from exploding into a weeks-long sickness is to stop it at the start. Unless a task or activity is an absolute necessity, cancel your plans, put away your to-do lists, and settle in for a long winter’s nap. A day of rest and enough sleep is the only thing you NEED right now. Feel bad about declining holiday invitations from your friends and family? You’re doing them a favor. Once people hear that you’re sick, they’ll be glad you stayed away — they don’t want to come down with a cold during the holiday any more than you do!
It is certain that you can feel less stressed in this hectic season when you stop expecting so much from yourself, because nobody puts so much expectation on you as you do to yourself. Trying to satisfy clients, co-workers, friends and family can be draining and can finally negatively impact you in many ways. When you simplify things up front, you relieve the stress off of yourself and everyone else in the process. Stop focusing on what you feel like you’re obligated to do, and start focusing on what you want and need to do, the load will get lighter and you will feel a lot merrier under the Christmas tree.

A Canadian University is trying a new way to help reduce students' exam-time stress: dogs.
Dalhousie University is filling a room on campus with dogs from Dec.4 through Dec.6 for students to visit and play with the animals between exams. The pet room will be open for two hours(9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) on the first two days and for five hours (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.; 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.) on the third day. The dogs will be provided by Therapeutic Paws of Canada, a non-profit organization that trains animals to help people with practical needs.
Dalhousie’s student union posted an advertisement for the pet room on its Facebook page and within 24 hours, it was shared nearly 2,000 times. Hundreds of students expressed their excitement over the pet room on the Facebook.

Michelle Presse wrote, ''Thank you! I'm so excited. I already feel less stressed now. ''
Alumni complained the pet room wasn't offered when they attended this university (this is the first time the school is offering it).

Walk Out of the Comfort Zone and Try New Things
For most high school students, free periods (课,节) are useless. From what I have seen, few do homework. 1.. This makes it impossible for those who actually want to do work to complete any. As a senior next year, I think extra periods should be used to take optional subjects.
2.. Now is the time for us students to choose a suitable one. We will experiment in different fields of study. We will never know if we are interested or talented in a subject if we don’t try it.
In my 8th grade, I was told that I had to take an art class as a graduation requirement; so in the 9th grade I took Studio and Art. One of the projects was to build a clay pot, but I built mine incorrectly, so it broke in the kiln (窑). 3.. Now I know for sure that I do not want to be an artist. However, the class was one of my favorites that year. I was able to try new activities and test my ability.
4.! College is when we should focus on a specific major, but high school is when we have to figure it out.
Half of all college students change their major at some point. By doing that hundreds of dollars are wasted on classes that they would have never needed to take. So use our extra periods to find out what we want to do in college. 5..
A. Our school offers many classes
B. We should find out what we are good at
C. I’ve avoided anything related to art since then
D. Instead, many are on their phones and talking
E. I found out that I have no artistic ability at all
F. Walk out of our comfort zone and try new things
G. The classes we choose can influence us in the future
