If you visit the animal shelter(收容所)in Saunas, California, you'll see huge signs that have a picture of a dog and a cat on them. These signs are put in front of the shelter to catch people's attention. The signs make people interested in the shelter and encourage them to visit it and maybe even take a cat or a dog into their homes.
Each year, the Salinas shelter accepts thousands of dogs and cats. The animals are either lost ones or are left by people who can't take care of them. Of all the animals, some of them are taken into new homes. Some others are moved to other shelters. And, unluckily, some cannot be saved because they are too sick or are thought to be dangerous.
Animal shelters provide food, medicine, and safe places for animals. But they are not the best homes. The animals stay in small cage(笼子). The people who work at shelters do their best to care for the animals, but the animals do not always get the attention or exercise they need.
To prevent animals from becoming homeless, pet owners should take good care of their pets. Most pet doctors also suggest people make sure their pets have a special surgery(外科手术). It prevents animals from having more babies. And that reduces the number of homeless animals.
1.How many dogs and cats does the Saunas shelter accept every year?
2.Why are the shelters not the best homes for the animals according to the passage?
3.If you find a homeless cat in the street, will you take it home? Why or why not?

Why does everything else seem so interesting when you have to study? Let's find out how to stay focused(集中). Follow each piece of advice that is given below.
Turn Off Your Cell pbone
Nothing's worse for a teenager to stay without their cell phone even for a minute. It's the sound in your cell phone that stops you from learning. Stop sending text messages to your friends saying "I can't study" or "how much have you finished".
A New Timetable Every Day
One of my personal ways is creating a new timetable every day. Look at the clock, and divide your hours. Suppose 2 hours of study requires a 30-minute break after that. Relax and then go back to study for another two hours.
Try Different Places to Study
Looking for a quiet place can help you stay organized while studying. A lonely corner in your house is perfect. You can also go to your school library. This will work for sure, trust me.
1.How many pieces of advice does the writer give us to stay focused while studying?
2.Why do we need a quiet place while studying?
3.Will you follow the advice in the passage? Why or why not?

India is the land of festivals. However, none are as fun as Holi, the festival of colors.
Holi is held on the day after the full moon in March every year. It celebrates the end of winter, the beginning of spring and the victory of good over evil. It's also a great chance for people to play and laugh.
What's so interesting about this day? During the festival, people can enjoy many dance performances. The best part about the festival is that people can throw colored powder, water, balloons and colored water at friends or even strangers.

Here are a few do's and don'ts on Holi:
Keep your mouth shut and protect your eyes as much as possible when somebody throws colored powder or colored water at you.
Before you go out to play with colors, grease (为……涂油) your body and hair well with cold cream and coconut oil. It will make sure that the colors don't go deep into your skin and will come off easily later.
Wear long trousers and a long-sleeved shin to protect your skin.
1.When does the festival come to an end?

2.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held a sign which said, "I am blind. Please help me."
There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took out a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words on it. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by could see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized(认出) his footsteps and asked, "Are you the one who changed my sign in the morning? What did you write?"
The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said, but in a different way."
What he had written was, "Today is a beautiful day, but I cannot see it."
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?
