Think of a simple object—a piece of chalk, for example. Are you remembering its name, its shape, its color or its size? Are you remembering what it is used for, or the sound it makes when the teacher writes on the blackboard? Scientists say that memory includes different parts of the brain, such as language and the ability of sense. They believe that you begin to create a memory when you notice something you’re your senses. Then messages are sent to different brain cells, which join together to form connections. A new connection goes into your short—term memory. It is stored there for about 30 seconds, and then it is either lost or stored in your long—term memory.
Having a good memory means making lots of connections and storing them in your long—term memory. To do this, you need to keep your brain in good shape. Eat plenty of brain food such as fish oil, fruit and vegetables. Laughter also makes your brain more active. Also, don’t forget to exercise. So do some sports or just move around a lot in the house. Finally, get plenty of sleep. This will make your memories grow stronger.
When you want to remember new information, you must pay special attention. Use your senses--sight, smell, hearing and touch-and keep repeating the information. To do well in your exams this year, turn off the TV, silence your mobile, and review your work regularly. To remember something special, use your imagination to create visual(视觉的) connections. For example, you need to take a pencil, an eraser, your ID card and chips to your next exam. Imagine the ID card as the body of an animal, the pencil its long neck, and the eraser its head. Your animal is hungry, so now imagine it eating a bag of chips. It may sound crazy, but its fun and it works. Another way is to do something different to your room. Turn a picture upside-down, or tie a sock around the door handle to remind(提醒)yourself of something to remember!
1.At the beginning, the writer gives an example to _________.
A. lead in the topic of the article B. show the importance of chalk
C. let readers remember the word D. make readers know his favorite
2.How many ways are mentioned to have a good memory in Paragraph 2 ?
A. 2. B. 3. C. 4. D. 5.
3.The main idea of the third paragraph is___________.
A. how to do well in exams B. how to remember new information
C. why to review your work D. what to eat to make memories stronger
4. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Memory has nothing to do with languages. B. Laughter can help to improve our memory.
C. A picture of eating chips is the most useful. D. Our brain is difficult to keep in good shape.

The pencil is a very simple object. However, it took hundreds of people over centuries to make it what it’s like today.
The story of the pencil starts with graphite(石墨). People cut it into small sticks and use them to write or draw. Around 1560, an Italian couple named Simoni and Lyndiana Bemacotti added wood holders to the graphite sticks. However, since the graphite is too soft, the pencils were easy to break. In 1795, in France, Nicolas-Jacques Conte worked out a method of mixing graphite powders with clay(黏土). In this way, people made strong pencil core(铅笔芯). To this day, the method is still used in making pencils.
It was Henry David Thoreau who came up with the grading scale(分级量表) for different hardnesses of pencils. It was graded one through four, and grade two is the proper hardness for general use. The softer the pencil is, the more graphite it has in it, and the darker the line is. The harder the pencil is, the more clay it has, and the lighter the line is. Nowadays, pencils marked 2B are usually used in exams to mark answers. Pencils marked HB are usually used in daily writing. People usually use pencils of different hardness and blackness to draw different parts of a picture.
When pencils were handmade, they were made round. Then an American Joseph Dixon developed machines to make pencils. Later people found out it was easier and less wasteful to make a pencil which has six sides.
There is a pencil for everyone and every pencil has a story. The Blackwing 602 is famous for being used by a lot of writers. And then, you have the Dixon pencil company. It’s what people think of when they think of a pencil and what they most probably will buy when their children are about to write.
In my opinion, there’s nothing that can be done to make the pencil better than it is.

A.Pencils are the best writing tool. B.There are many kinds of pencils.
C.The Blackwing 602 is very expensive. D.Dixon pencils are popular with people.

Satellites are an important part of our ordinary lives. For example, the information for weather forecasts is sent by satellite. Some satellites have cameras which take photographs of the Earth to show how clouds are moving.Satellites are also used to connect our international phone calls.
Computer connections of the World Wide Web and Internet also use satellites. Many of our TV programs come to US through satellites.Airplane pilots also sometimes use a satellite to help them find their exact location.
We use satellites to send television pictures from one part of the world to another. They are usually 35,880 kilometers above the equator.Sometimes we can see a satellite in the sky and it seems to stay in the same place. This is because it is moving around the world at 11,000 kilometers an hour—exactly the same speed that the earth rotates.A satellite must orbit the Earth with its antennae(天线)facing the earth.Sometimes, it moves away from its orbit(轨道),So there are little rockets on it which are used to put the satellite back in the right position. This usually happens about every five or six days.
Space is not empty! Every week, more and more satellites are sent into space to orbit the Earth.A satellite usually works for about 10-12 years.Satellites which are broken are sometimes repaired by astronauts or sometimes brought back to Earth to be repaired.Often, very old or broken satellites are left in space to orbit the Earth for a very long time. This is very serious because some satellites use nuclear(核) power and they can crash into each other.
1.Which of the following is NOT done by satellites according to the passage?
A.Sending information for weather forecast.
B.Taking photographs of the Earth.

A.35,880 kilometers per hour.
B.335,880 kilometers per hour.
C.11,000 kilometers per hour.
D.110,000 kilometers per hour
3.Why does the satellite move around the world at the same speed as the Earth rotates?
A.In order to take photographs.
B.In order to stay in a certain position in the orbit.
C.In order to move away from its orbit.
D.In order to send television pictures.
4.What does the underlined word “This” in the 3rd paragraph refer to?
A.A satellite.
B.A little rocket.

PowerPoint Presentations(PPT)are taking the place of writing on the blackboard with chalk. Someday, will robots take the place of human teachers?

It has worked as a guide in showrooms. But this will be the first time it works as a teaching assistant in classrooms and in formal teaching!
How will Asimo help in class?A teacher explained the way Asimo worked to students in last week's show. Asimo has sensors(感应器)inside its body to keep its balance.
The smart Asimo tilted(倾斜)its body when it stood on a shaking platform(平台). Asimo kept its balance. But a wooden person beside Asimo fell(See the above picture).
When you walk, you pass your weight from the heel to the toe. The Japanese teacher explained this with Asimo at the museum. He moved the robot in slow move. Asimo made learning science more interesting for students!
Asimo will soon help teach thousands of primary students and junior high schools in two Japanese cities. Hopefully, robot teachers will arrive in our classrooms in China one day.
