If there is one thing I’m sure about, it is that in a hundred years from now we will still be reading newspapers. It’s not that newspapers are a necessity. Even now some people get most of their news from television or radio. Many buy a paper only on Saturday or Sunday. But for most people reading a newspaper has become a habit passed down from generation to generation.
The nature of what is news may change. What basically makes news is what affects our lives — the big political stories, the coverage(报导)of the wars, earthquakes and other disasters, will continue much the same. I think there will be more coverage of scientific research, though. It’s already happening in areas that may directly affect our lives, like genetic(基因)engineering. In the future, I think there will be more coverage of scientific explanations of why we feel as we do — as we develop a better understanding of how the brain operates and what our feelings really are.
It’s quite possible that in the next century newspapers will be transmitted(传送) electronically from Fleet Street and printed out in our own home. In fact, I’m pretty sure that how it will happen in the future. You will probably be able to choose from a menu, making up your own newspaper by picking out the things you want to read — sports and international news, etc.
I think people have got it wrong when they talk about competition between the different media. They actually feed off each other. Some people once foresaw that television would kill off newspapers, but that hasn’t happened. What is read on the printed page lasts longer than pictures on a screen or sound in the air. And as for the Internet, it’s never really pleasant to read something just on a screen.

Hello, everyone! I’m sure you will be interested in what I’m going to talk about.
1. You probably think you will never be one. However, this is not necessarily so. Anyone can become a top student if he or she wishes to. Here are some tips for you:
2. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First, arrange your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide on a good, regular time for studying. Don’t forget to leave yourself enough time for your hobbies.
Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study, concentrate(全神贯注) on the subject.
Make good use of your time in class. 3. Listening carefully in class means less work later. You also need to take notes in class, because it will help you remember what the teacher says.
Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, and read that material. 4. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you’ll remember it longer
Treat the tests correctly. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be worried.
5. You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.
A.There are other methods that might help you with your studies.
B.Plan your time carefully.
C.Use the class time to listen to everything the teacher says.
D.No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard.
E.Maybe you are not a top student.
F. Make full use of class tine to take notes of what the teacher says in class.
G. This will help you understand the next class.

What will man be like in the future--in 5000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time.
Let us take an obvious example, Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is a relatively short period of time, so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain’s capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change too: the head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger.
Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man's eyes will grow stronger.
On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life.
But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald (光秃的).
Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. But in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own.
1.The passage mainly tells us that ________.
A.humans needn't wear glasses in the future.
B.man's life will be different in the future.
C.future man will look quite different from us.
D.man is growing taller and uglier as time passes.
2.It can be inferred from the passage that ________.
A.future life is always predictable (可预测的)
B.human beings will become less attractive in the future
C.less use of a bodily organ (器官) may lead to its degeneration (退化)
D.human beings hope for a change in the future life
3.Future man will be similar to us in ________.
A.Colour and height B.size and appearance
C.thought and observation D.thought and emotion
