Light in a bottle
This is such a simple idea! It’s a special lamp that needs and costs nothing to run. It wasn’t invented by a famous scientist, but by a man called Alfredo Moser in Brazil sixteen years ago. In his hometown at the time, they had problems with electricity. 1. One day, Moser and his friends were talking about how they could create a signal in an emergency. One of them suggested using a bottle to reflect the light from the sun. This made Moser think. 2.
All you need is a clean plastic bottle. Fill it with water and close it with a black top. The black top attracts the sun. A drop of bleach (漂白剂), the kind you use to clean the house, is added to the water to keep it clean. Then a small hole is cut in the roof of the room where you want the light, and the bottle is pushed through the hole. 3. It’s much stronger than the light from a candle!
Moser shared his idea with his neighbours and his light bottles were fixed in the local supermarket. Ten years later, the MyShelter Foundation in the Philippines heard about Moser’s idea. 4. Now there are Moser lamps in more than 140,000 homes throughout the Philippines and the idea has spread to a number of other countries, too. 5. Moser lamps have surely made life easier for a lot of people!
A.Why not use water to make light?
B.In India, the bottles are used in countryside schools.
C.Moser was very good at making things around the home.
D.People’s homes and small businesses were often left in the dark.
E.Following Moser’s method, the organization started making lamps in 2011.
F.While there’s sunlight outside, the light will be carried through the water into the room below.
G.MyShelter also offers training for people who want to earn money by fixing the lamps in their communities.

One day in my class,Maria shared her feelings about money,“Money worries me.I think I want to live without money because I hate it.I HATE MONEY.”We were all touched by Maria's words as they reminded us of the spiritual burdens that money managing can bring to us.After class I offered to help Maria deal with her financial problems. She hesitated to accept my offer, and I could see from the expression on her face that she was afraid of what it might involve.I quickly promised her that I wouldn't make her do more than she was able to.I told her frankly that I didn't enjoy managing my money any more than she did hers and wouldn't burden her with guilt, judgments,or impossible tasks. All I would ask her to do was to let me help her look at her fears and try to make some sense of them.
Maria still resisted my offer, and I can remember the excuses she gave me as they were the repeated complaints I had heard from so many people.“I'll never understand money,”she said.“My facts are meaningless.”“I don't deserve to have money.”“I never have enough.”“I have too little to manage.”“My financial position isn't worth looking at.”and the most devastating one of all,“I just can't do it.”
Going home that day,I couldn't get Maria out of my mind:her attitude conveyed the same negativity and fear that I believed annoyed many people.I was sure it was this attitude that prevented people from managing their money effectively. My counseling(咨询)has taught me that these anxieties are inseparably connected to our selfdoubts and fear for survival. Many of us are terrified of handling our money because we don't believe we can do it well, and to do it wrong would put our very existence at risk.
On a deeper level we know that money is not the source of life, but sense of worth drives us to act as if it were.It locks us up in selfdoubts and prevents us from tapping into the true source of our management power, our spirit.
1.The underlined word“devastating”in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.

C.of the same family background D.of the same feeling over the issue
3.As for money managing, the author intended to tell Maria how to ________.
A.overcome her fears B.make wise decisions
C.avoid making mistakes D.learn the necessary skills
4.Maria wouldn't take the author's offer of help for fear of________.
A.being forced to share her money with others
B.having to do something beyond her reach
C.being found guilty of making impossible errors
D.showing her judgment about money
5.According to the author, people's anxieties about managing money result from their understanding of money as the only source of ________.
A.life B.values C.spirit D.power

How to prepare for exams? Well, it is a big question that you always ask yourself.
There is no short cut to success, which is the first thing you should remember. For this reason you have to study hard first of all. Besides, here are some tips for you.
Never fear or hate exams and be confident. Some students study well but still may be afraid of exams and due to this reason they won’t be able to get good marks. So leave all your fears behind and free your mind before starting your studies. You have to be confident and it is the most important thing for attaining victory.
Prepare a good timetable. Prepare a timetable before starting your studies. This should include all subjects, but tough subjects can be given more time while easier ones less. And remember some time shall be spared for entertainment and also there should be enough break time between each subject.
Select a proper atmosphere for studying. No need to explain this point. Can anyone study well while watching TV? So select a place where you feel comfortable and can concentrate. And importantly it is better to study early in the morning when you will have quiet surroundings and you can concentrate more.
Make notes while studying. This is a very important point. Make small notes while studying can help you remember all the points. It will work better if you use these notes for revision in the last one or two hours than you skip through pages of your textbook. It won’t take much time to go through these notes.
Write well. As we all know, the first impression is the best impression. So your handwriting affects your marks. Try to write neatly. If it is not good enough, don’t worry; if you present it in a good manner you can score more marks.
