I once believed that a friend is a friend all the way. Now I have changed my ideas about friendships.
1. Friends of convenience(便利). They can be the people who live next door or the mothers of our children’s closest friends. Friends of convenience are good indeed. They’ll help us when we need it. They’ll look after our cats when we go on holidays. But we don’t ever get too close or tell too much. Between us, we’ll talk about being overweight but not about being sad or disappointed(失望). However, people still find it necessary to make friends like this.
2. Special-interest friends. These friendships aren’t deeply personal or emotional(感情上的). They lie in some shared interests, so we may have an office friend, a tennis friend, or even a shopping friend.
3. Historical friends. We all have a friend who knew us when…maybe we were back in the second grade of primary school, when our family lived in that two-room flat downtown. He or she was the first, the only friend we told our secrets to.
The years have gone by, and we have gone different ways. But we’re still a personal part of each other’s past. We know how we looked before our teeth were straightened(矫正), and our getting together makes us think of an earlier part of ourselves, which is important and never lost.
4. Cross-generational friends. These are friendships that from across generations(代). I have in my own life a precious(珍贵的) friend, a woman of 65, who is clever, who listens well, and who means not only an ideal mother to me but also the person I’d like to be when I grow up.
Best friends, I believe, totally love and help each other.

“Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. Without me, all animals would die. “Green said.
“You only think about the earth,” Blue interrupted, “but consider the sky and the sea. The sky gives space, peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing.”

It is believed in some ways that the daughter is father's lover. But my experience has taught me in a different way. For a long time, my father has been a very vague (模糊的)figure to me. He was a man of few words, tall but slim and nothing else.
When I was in primary school, my father was never there to pick me up, and he never came to any of my parent-teacher meetings. He was always busy doing projects. I remember when I was in middle school and my head was badly hurt in a PE class. During my operation, my father was nowhere to be found. This hurt me most. At that moment, I considered my Father as a cold-blooded man who did not care about me at all.
But things seemed different at my high school graduation ceremony, where I was chosen to represent my class and give a speech. My father, once again, told me he had a business trip in a place outside the city and would be unable to show up "Don't come. I will be my nervous if I see you.” I told him.
I remember my speech went smoothly. After the ceremony was over and I was about to leave, I suddenly noticed a familiar looking man sitting in a corner of the hall. It was my father!I was so surprised that I rushed to him with tears running down my face. "Well done," he said. His eyes were also filled with tears.
Later, I found out that my father had managed to finish his work by staying up late, and he drove for eight hours to get back. He had been sitting in the corner because he didn't want me to see him. My father remembered every word in my speech.
For much of my life, I described my father was a cold-blooded man who only cared about his work. But when I thought deeply about this, it was obviously(明显地)not true. At my graduation ceremony I could feel my father's deep love. The fact is that seeing is not believing, and seeing may not be the fact if we don't perceive(感知)the world with our hearts and minds. There's no doubt that life doesn't lack love, but sometimes our eyes have trouble seeing it.
1.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The writer's father was in the hospital during her operation.
B. The writer's father attended her high school graduation ceremony.
C. The writer's father sometimes picked her up when she was in primary school.
D. The writer's father went to parent-teacher meetings when she was in primary school.
2.The writer rushed to her father with tears running down her face mainly because_______________.
A. she gave a speech successfully
B. the graduation ceremony was over
C. she was so nervous that she couldn't help crying
D. she was touched to find her father cared about her
3.What does the underlined word "this" in the last paragraph refer to(指代)?
A. That my father was always doing projects.
B. That my father was a cold-blooded man.
C. That my father sat in the corner of the hall.
D. That my father's eyes were filled with tears.
4. What's the best title of the passage?
A. My busy father B. Life is full of love
C. Seeing is not believing D. A wonderful speech

Though water does not seem all that exciting, it is very valuable. The Ancient Greek people believed all the fresh water on the Earth came from a river called Okeanos. They imagined that clouds collected rain from its magical waters (海域). The reason they believed in this is because water is important for humans, Doctors say that without water we would die in about one week.
There are two places that our fresh water comes from. The first is surface water, which includes all the water in lakes or rivers. The second is groundwater, which refers to all the water that comes from under the ground.
Water must be treated before it can come out of the tap (水龙头). First, anything harmful in the water must be removed. Then a cleaning agent (净化剂) is added. This will destroy any remaining germs (细菌).
There have been reports of factories in China letting waste water leak into the ground. Industrial waste water is a big problem as it can pollute our drinking water. Even if the water is treated, it is unfit for drinking. The Ministry of Environmental Protection has improved the water in China since 2004. In 2011, 76 percent of water was safe for dinking. But treated water should always be boiled before drinking.
Some countries have more fresh water resources (资源) and this means that it is easier for them to treat their water.
A report from a British Consulting Firm called Maplecroft found that Iceland has the best fresh water supply in the world. That is because most of the tap water in Iceland comes from pure mountain springs. No treatment of any kind is required before Icelandic people drink their delicious water.
1.What is the main topic of the first paragraph?
A.An Ancient Greek story. B.The importance of water.
C.Okeanos the river. D.Clouds and water.
2.Where does our fresh water come from?
A.From surface, water and lakes or rivers. B.From surface water and groundwater.
C.From a river called Okeanos. D.From the groundwater and Iceland.
3.What do we know about tap water?
A.It comes directly from groundwater.
B.It comes directly from lakes or rivers.
C.The cleaning agent in it is bad for our health.
D.It must be treated before it comes out of the tap.
4.What do the underlined words "leak into" in the fourth paragraph mean in Chinese?
A.填满 B.覆盖 C.渗漏 D.倒入
5.Iceland has the best fresh water supply in the world because ________.
A.they always boil the water before drinking
B.there is no water pollution in Iceland
C.they have the best water treatment technology
D.most of the water comes from pure mountain springs.

At the moment, it may be difficult to imagine, but many people believe that, by the year 2100, we will live on the planet Mars. Our own planet, Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. Luckily, we can start again and build a better world on Mars.
First of all, transport should be much better. At present, our spaceships are too slow to carry large numbers of people to Mars—it takes months. However, by 2100, spaceship can travel at half the speed of light. It might take us two or three days to get to Mars! Secondly, humans need food, water and air to live. Scientists should be able to develop plants that can be grown on Mars. These plants will produce the food and air that we need. However, can these plants produce water for us? There is no answer now.
There is a problem for us to live on Mars. Mars suck(吸力) us much less than the Earth does. This will be dangerous because we could easily jump too high and fly slowly away into space. To prevent this, humans on Mars have to wear special shoes to make themselves heavier.
Life on Mars will be better than that on Earth in many ways. People will have more space. Living in a large building with only 10 bedrooms is highly possible. Many people believe that robots will do most of our work, so we have more time for our hobbies.
There will probably be no school on Mars. Every student will have a computer at home which is connected to the internet. They can study, do their homework and take exams in online schools. Each student will also have their own online teacher called “e-teacher”.
However, in some ways, life on Mars may not be better than that on the earth today. Food will not be the same—meals will probably be in the form of pills and will not be as delicious as they are today. Also, space travel will make many people feel ill. The spaceship will travel fast, so the journey to Mars will probably be very uncomfortable.

In the first paragraph, we can know _________ and _________ people will live on the planet of Mars.
