During their lives, many people experience difficulties and struggle (努力) to do something. When I lived in China, it was a hard struggle for me to learn Chinese and get used to Chinese customs.
The first day I went to school, I didn’t understand what my teachers and my classmates said. I just sat in my seat without doing anything, but when I went back home, I cried and told my mom that I wanted to leave for my homeland.
Later, however, I decided I had to study Chinese very hard, but it was very difficult to learn the language. Every day at school, I tried to talk to the Chinese students and make friends with them. When school was over, I studied Chinese at home by watching Chinese TV programs. That turned out to be a very good way to improve my Chinese. Little by little, I began to speak Chinese in school and I began to make many friends. Finally, I got a very high grade in the Chinese exam and naturally I became used to Chinese customs.
Now, I like to talk with Chinese people and I like Chinese food too. The experience of struggling to learn Chinese in China was unforgettable, and I’ll never forget the time when I learned so much.

Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to a Chinese student, they always say, "My spoken English is poor." However, their spoken English does not have to remain "poor". I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.
First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves because of a limited vocabulary. Obviously, the better answer is to enlarge their vocabulary. However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if your attitude is positive(积极的). Others will follow you as long as(只要)you use the words that you know.
Second, they are afraid of making mistakes. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be FLUENCY(流利性)NOT ACCURACY(准确性). Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using them to get your message across(使别人了解你的信息) . But to talk to someone in English, as quickly and well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense, but it doesn't matter because the person you are speaking to will understand you and forgive you for any mistakes he hears.
The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. You have one mouth but two ears! All the hearing is necessary for you to start speaking.
Fourth, most Chinese students are somewhat passive language learners. Instead of actively looking for opportunities (机会 )to improve their spoken English, they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor. If you are active language learners, then, you will see English chances wherever you go.
If you do not use your English beyond the classroom, you will forget that English you know. Remember: USE IT OR LOSE IT! You can learn how to speak English better by speaking Eng1ish more.

The Chinese are very generous when it comes to educating their children. Some parents send their children to the best schools or even to England, the US or Australia, though this costs too much. Many also want their children to learn a musical instrument or ballet that will give them a head start in life. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is, so parents often spend a large amount of money on education. Even poor couples buy a computer for their son or daughter.
However, what most parents fail to see is that the best education they can give their children is usually very cheap. Parents can see that their children’s skills vary (变化); they will usually be skilled in some areas while poor in others. What most parents fail to realize though, is that today’s children don’t believe in themselves.
The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take multiple-choice tests and how to study effectively. They are not teaching them the most important skills they need to be confident, happy and clever.
Parents can help achieve this by teaching their children practical skills like cooking, sewing and other housework.
Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking demands patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. The result, a well-cooked dinner, will give a child a lot of pleasure and confidence.
An old machine such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child as a toy may make him curious and interested. If he will spend hours looking at it, and try to repair it; your child might become an engineer when he grows up. Such activities do more than teach a child to read a book; but they teach them to think, and to use their minds. This is much more important than learning by reading a book.

Online schools are becoming very popular with many people today. And now, even regular students are going in for online education. As it leaves them with enough time to do other things, such as a part-time job or a hobby, along with studying. However, as with everything, there are two sides about online schooling.
Let’s start with the good side. Online schools cost very little. You don’t have to spend money on books, or bus fees. Also, since you can work along with studying at an online schools, you would not need to take an education loan. Another benefit of going to school online is the freedom it provides. You can study wherever you want—in your house, at a cafe or even in a park. Some people who want to study further, now no longer have to take a break in their jobs, thanks to online schools.
However, those students who often need a push from their teachers to do well have a very high chance of not doing well at online schools. When studying in a class, different topics in a given subject are discussed and different students give their points of view. This is something that online schooling cannot provide.
Also, there are many employers who prefer students with a regular and traditional degree to those who have an online degree. The employers feel that students who go to full-time colleges have more knowledge compared to those who have online degrees.
In general, it can be said online schools are good for some, while others should give them up! A person should see the situation he is in and then decide whether or nor to choose an online school.

When we think of chocolate, many of us think of candy bars and sweet. But this is not how chocolate comes to us. In fact, it comes from the cacao tree that is found in the tropical(热带的) forests of Central and South America, because cacao beans need to grow in a hot and humid climate (湿热的气候) . The Mayas knew that they could get food and drink from the tree. The Aztecs often took the cacao beans and broke them into pieces in hot water, making a drink that was delicious and energy-producing for the body.
When Columbus and Cortez came to America, they shipped cacao beans back to Spain. However, at first few people accepted the drink because the taste was strange. When Columbus gave the information back to the Spanish Queen and King that one cup of chocolate from the cacao beans could provide a whole day’s energy for a man without the need for other food, attitudes(态度) quickly changed.
The need and the cost for chocolate produced by the cacao beans rose sharply. Soon all Europeans had fallen in love with chocolate. But chocolate was so expensive at that time that only the riches could afford this confection (甜食). At first, too much chocolate made people sick because more than half of the cacao bean is formed from fat, and few people knew how to remove the too much fat content(脂肪含量). Perhaps that is how we arrived at the expression, “Too much of a good thing can be bad for you.”

Central and South America | It comes from the cacao tree that is found in the tropical forests of Central and South America, because a hot and humid climate is2. for the growth of cacao beans. | ①The 3. got food and drink from the tree. ②The Aztecs often took the cacao beans and broke them into pieces in hot water, making a drink that was 4. and energy-producing for the body. |

Manners are important in every country. But people have different ideas about their manners. What is good in one country may not be welcomed in another.
Chinese people are surprised to know the fact that an Englishman doesn’t stop to talk and shake hands with his friend in the street. They just say hello to each other and then pass on.
English people think that we Chinese end our visits to friends all of a sudden. They usually begin to show that they want to go 15 or 20 minutes before they leave their friend’s house. And they do this two or three times within 20 minutes.
Because of these differences, perhaps the most suitable advice for the overseas, no matter what country he is visiting, is to follow the old proverb: “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
Main idea | Some 1. between Chinese and English manners |
Friends meeting in the street | Chinese stop to talk and shake hands. English people just 2. each other and pass on. |
The habits of 3. a visit | Chinese people leave all of a sudden while English people will leave 4. showing two or three times that they want to go. |
