The film of this week is Life of Pi. Pi has been raised in a zoo in India. When his father decides to move the family to Canada and sell the animals to American zoos, they get on a Japanese ship. The ship sinks, and 16-year-old Pi finds himself alone on a lifeboat with a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra, and a tiger.

Soon, there’s only Pi and the tiger. They spend 227 days in the Pacific Ocean. Pi’s fear, knowledge, and wisdom keep him alive. Finally, they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle. The Japanese who question Pi don’t believe his story, so he tells a second one --- more normal, less interesting. But is it truer?

The film is really touching, meaningful and unusual. It’s also a story, as some audiences say, to “make you believe in God.”

The director of this movie is Ang Lee, an American Chinese. The movie speaks of the relationship between humans and nature. Indian boy Priscine Patel is troubled by his first name. And his classmates laugh at him. So he decides to change his name to “Pi”.

Pi’s father has a zoo and he decides to move to Canada. The family, together with all the zoo animals, sail across the pacific（太平洋）. One day, a huge storm hits the ship. The next morning, Pi finds his family have sunk（沉没）with the ship. He is the only person still alive. As the tiger becomes hungry, Pi starts to fish to feed him. If not, he himself will become the food. The boy and the tiger develop an amazing relationship on the sea. Although he feels hopeless, Pi never gives up. After 227 days, the lifeboat finally lands on a beach in Mexico, but Richard Parker runs away into the forest. The ship company finds Pi and asks him what happened. Pi tells them about Richard Parker, but the company doesn’t believe him. Pi then tells another story in which is no tiger.

My stay in Thailand has certainly been the experience of my life．

　Life of Pi shows a young Indian named Pi, who finds the world he knows swept away when his family sells their zoo and sets sail for Canada with a few animals. Only Pi escapes from the storm and floats in a lifeboat with a giant Bengal tiger.

He is the only person of Asian to win the directing award and one of the rare people who won that award more than once.

It is natural for me to put Asian thinking into Western things." The film, which cost 120 million U.S. dollars, has earned nearly 600 million dollars worldwide. Lee said most of the earnings came from outside China. Lee said he felt warm that he won the award on the day of the Lantern Festival, a Chinese traditional festival on which families get together to solve puzzles on lanterns and eat Tang Yuan.
