These days, young children can enjoy directly what it is like to be a marine biologist (海洋生物学家) at a marine association. What they discover can lead them to appreciate and protect the ocean and also the animals living in it.
At the present time, learning isn’t only limited to the classroom. It’s quite common for kids to learn from outdoor experiences. Teachers commonly take their pupils on field trips to museums as well as other interesting areas. If you wish to help pupils to take care of the ocean, one of the best areas to take them to is a marine association, the place where the ocean biome (生物圈) is shown.
Taking your pupils to a marine association is a prefect way to help them learn. Education professionals agree that there are topics that children can learn more successfully whenever they experience them directly.
Several organizations that focused on protecting the ocean now operate on the coast of different areas in America and all around the world. It’s quite common for marine associations nowadays to open their doors several times a week to kids, parents, and ocean lovers to learn more about the ocean biome.
A marine association has different programs for children of different ages. You’ll find programs that are developed specially for pupils. Pupils are involved in interactive (互动的) learning. This learning experience allows young children to recognize the value of the role each species performs in their environment. They not only get to research creatures from the ocean, but they also get to see, touch, and smell most of these animals and plants. This type of exposure offers students an idea about the life of a marine scientist. It could help them choose a career afterwards.
These programs are generally held on Saturdays and Sundays in order that kids and parents can have more hours in which to have fun. Teachers who want to arrange these activities for their students can call a local marine association near them.
1.According to the text, pupils can have a better understanding of the ocean biome by _______.
A.learning about it from books
B.going to a marine association
C.attending marine biologists’ meetings

Most people would say the sea is blue and green. But the people who live near the coast of Zhejiang may say it is red. It is not people who caused the colour change, but very small living thing in the sea. They are algae(藻类)and protozoa(原生动物). They come in many different colours: red, yellow or brown. Red is the easiest of those to see, so when this happens, people call it a “red tide.”
Red tides only happen when conditions in the sea are right. In the past few years, factories and people have been putting more chemicals into the sea. These chemicals help algae and protozoa to grow very quickly. The temperature of the sea is also important. Red tides usually happen at 20 to 30 degrees Celsius(摄氏的). Red tides often happen in dry, warm areas where there is little wind. Living things grow easily in these places. Sometimes fishermen help red tides by mistake. They put small sea animals into the water for food to help fish grow.
Those living things do more than change the colour of the water--they also put poison and mucus(黏液)into the sea. This is bad for fish. The poison is bad for their brains. And too much mucus in the sea fills up fish’s gills(鳃), so they can’t breathe. Lots of dead fish and other sea animals are now washed up on Chinese beaches.
Red tides can be bad for people, too. The algae gets inside of fish and it smells bad. It can make your eyes water. If people eat fish with too much algae inside, they could die.
Fishermen in Zhejiang are having a hard time right now. Because of the red tide, they are selling 30% less fresh seafood than usual.
In China, red tides usually happen in May and June around places like Fujian, Guangdong and Hong Kong.
Many other countries sometimes also have red tides. But it seems that we have few ways to stop red tides. They can last as long as 16 months.
1.What can cause the water in the sea to change its colour?
A. Algae. B. Algae and protozoa.
C. Protozoa. D. People and animals.
2.Which of the following is NOT true?
A. Fishermen in the area sell less fresh seafood than usual.
B. People could die if they eat fish with too much algae inside.
C. Algae and protozoa can’t give off any poison and mucus into the water.
D. Eating fish with algae in them can make people’s eyes water.
3.Which of the following is not a cause of red tides?
A. People catch too many fish and eat too much seafood.
B. People and factories put more chemicals into the sea.
C. The temperature is at 20 to 30 degrees Celsius.
D. It is dry and warm and there is little wind in the area.
4.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A. Don’t eat any fish with algae and mucus inside.
B. People should do their best to protect the sea.
C. The scientists have found good ways to stop red tides.
D. The forming of red tides and their harmfulness.

Liu Zehao,15, found his interest was Junior Achievement (企业经营模拟). The course brought students into the real world of business. In their first class, Liu and his group members named their company "Vision". Liu was elected as CEO of the company.
"Here we learn to think like an adult. We have to make our company get more money. It's new and different from other courses," he said.
Liu and Bai take their elective courses twice a week with students from other classes who share the same interest. The students will get two credits (学分) from each course at the end of this term. They have to achieve eight credit points from electives to graduate from high school.

After a year at sea, 16-year-old Laura Dekker can finally say, “Mission accomplished!” Last month, she finished a daring trip around the world aboard her 38-foot boat, Guppy. Dekker, who is from the Netherlands, traveled more than 30,000 miles all by herself. She is the youngest person ever to sail around the globe alone.
Dekker had wanted to lake on this challenge when she was even younger. She first tried to set sail at the age of 13, but a court in the Netherlands stopped her. They said that she was too young to make such a risky trip by herself. But Dekker insisted she had the navigation skills and patience of an adult sailor.
She finally took off on January 20, 2011. During her trip, Dekker battled loneliness, storms, and worries about pirates. But she also got to surf, scuba dive, and started a new hobby: playing the flute. Although Dekker didn’t spend all of her time at sea—she stopped at ports along the way—she did spend her 16lh birthday on the open ocean. To celebrate, she ale doughnuts for breakfast.
But Dekker didn’t sail into the record books. Guinness World Records and the World Sailing Speed Record Council no longer recognize records for “youngest” sailors. They dropped the category in 2009 to discourage children from attempting such dangerous feats (壮举) But that didn’t stop Dekker, who was born on a yacht during a seven-year world voyage undertaken by her parents.
Dekker doesn’t mind that she won’t hold an official record. She says it was a personal goal, and she is happy she achieved it.
“I am not disappointed at all that Guinness World Record won’t recognize my attempt.” Dekker wrote on her website. “I did not start on my trip to achieve any record…I did it just for myself.”
