Every year in October, my school holds a swimming competition. This is a day where we all skip (跳过) a day of school, and instead spend it taking part in swimming races.
I took part in six different races. I came first in one of them! However in the other five, I came second . We also helped the younger students race, by swimming alongside them, holding them above the water and making sure they stay safe.
In this event, we compete not only for ourselves, but for our color house to win. The students are sorted(分类) into four different color houses. So we can earn(赢得) points for our success as a group, learn teamwork and do our best. These houses are Blue, Green, Red and Gold. When we are not racing, we are cheering for our friends and trying to earn extra points for our color house for good sportsmanship(运动员精神).
At the end of the day, there are two major awards. The first award is age champion. This medal is given to the boy and girl from each age group, who perform(表现) the best out of all the other children competing against them.
