My family and I have just returned from a family reunion(团聚). Six years ago, my aunt and uncle decided to move to Los Angeles. I was still young when they left so I did not remember them very well. Since moving, they have had two children, a boy and a girl. It was my chance to get to know my family and meet my cousins for the first time.
My uncle now works in the film business. His job is to translate(翻译) English dialogue into Chinese. Nowadays it is quite common for some American films to have some parts with Chinese. We had some really enjoyable days in Los Angeles. We went to the beach a few times and went on a tour of a film studio.
However, the best part of the trip was learning about my family. I could not believe how similar we all are. It is easy to tell we are a part of the same family. My dad and uncle have a lot in common. They are quite short, like making jokes about their hair loss(缺失), and really enjoying eating seafood.
My mum and aunt are both quite tall with curly hair, and are interested in Beijing Opera and going for long walks. Even my cousin Sunny and I are similar! We both have big eyes and long, straight hair. We like playing the same games and we are all scared of spiders! Also, we both find maths too difficult but are quite good at speaking English. I am so glad we had the Chance to visit Los Angeles. I hope they can visit China in the near future.
1.How did he writer feel before she went to Los Angeles?
A.Scared B.Excited C.Bored D.Nervous
2.The writer's uncle translates English dialogue into Chinese because________ .
A.people in China like to watch American films in Chinese
B.actors in American films sometimes speak Chinese
C.Chinese is very common in the USA
D.Americans hope to communicate with Chinese
3.The writer's dad and uncle are similar in the flowing ways EXCEPT________ .
A.neither of them are tall B.neither of them have much hay
C.both of them like seafood D.both of them like making jokes on each other
4.In what way are the writer and her cousin Sunny similar?

Hello Sandy,
We have just returned from our holiday. We went with our friends Edward Smith and his wife Tina to the Yorkshire Moors. This is a beautiful place. It is a natural park. There are lots of places to walk on the tops of the hills, miles of grassland with no people, just sheep and birds.
Edward, who had just come out of hospital, could not walk as far as be used to. However this meant that we walked in the mornings, and then stopped at a cafe for lunch each day, before returning to the place we live. Edward and I slept in front of the fire all afternoon, while the ladies went for another walk. Very pleasant!
I have taken lots of photos from the place we live, across the valley(峡谷)below us, of the morning sunrise, and the mist in the valley. Also, in England, the old steam powered trains(蒸汽火车)are very popular. I have taken many photos of the train and from it.
Yesterday we had the first snow of this winter. It is very early (we usually expect snow in January). It rained all day, then snowed in the evening. Today we have bright sunshine!
Both Jenny and I are well I don’t know if I told you, in the last e-mail, that Jenny is now working in a hotel. Although she has to work hard, people there are nice and she is enjoying the work.
Please write to us to tell us your news.
Yours,
Victor

To my family and friends,
As some of you know, I have just started my tour in the remote mountain area. Everything is going really well, so no .The land is beautiful but unfortunately it has a lot of too. I have received several emails asking what I need while I'm here .so I decided to write you all and let you know that I don’t need anything. At least not for me. I’m asking all of you to send me a few to help the local children. Let me explain.
On 12 May 2009, in a small village here, 120 school age girls were by a gas leak(煤气泄漏). Most have but 6 are still in hospital. Even though the local government speaks about the of education for both boys and girls but most of these kids only attend school for four hours a day if they are even allowed to go. They are so excited and to learn, but then have to things like being sprayed(喷射) with acid or poisoned. Most of these kids are poor and can’t a pencil, pen or even paper to write on. So my co-workers and I are planning a trip to several schools to promote and to give these kids some of the they need. That is where all of you come in. If you can, please whatever school supplies you currently have .
That would be a huge help.
I know how busy you are so thank you for taking the to do this and I will post pictures of this after we go.
Thank you again.
Todd Tucker

I come from a large family. My parents both have many brothers and sisters. When I was a boy, during late July, my family would hold a reunion (聚会) every year. Usually more than 50 family members would attend the party.
The reunion would take place in a large public park in the late afternoon because it wasn't too hot at that time. Each family would bring their own food to eat. Usually each family had a special dish that would be shared. Some families would bring potato salad while others would bring a dessert or self-made special drinks. There was always more than enough food.
Almost everyone would play games. Younger people played softball, football, volleyball and so on. However, Uncle Sam always taught Cousin Chris and me to play badminton. CMs and I went to the same school and we kept beating other players and won several state games. The older family members would sit under a tree and watch the games or just sit around and talk. Everyone enjoyed himself / herself because it was a good chance to catch up on what his / her relatives were doing that year.
Those family reunions are the best memories I have of my childhood. Today it seems that everyone is too busy to hold or attend family reunions. Now, no matter how nostalgic I feel about those family reunions, those memories remain very clear in my mind.
