After two weeks of meetings in Paris, 195 countries reached an agreement on December 12 to do with climate(气候) change. It’s the first time in history that most of the world’s countries, rich or poor, agreed to take action. The agreement sets the long-time goal of making sure the world temperature does not get 2°C higher than the levels in the 1800s. Otherwise there will be serious problems on Earth like natural disasters.
The agreement also asks countries to volunteer to make promises based on each country’s economy(经济), politics and technology. For developed countries, they will do even more. They have a plan to offer over $100 billion (about 647 billion yuan) to help poorer countries develop clean energy like water and wind power.
Besides, there are some legally binding (法律约束的) rules. Those countries need to set national goals for cutting greenhouse gas emissions (排放) every five years. And they will publicly report their progress every five years starting in 2023.
However, the Paris Agreement alone won’t solve the climate change problem. The future depends on how well each country will carry out their promises.

Littering is a big problem in cities around the world. People know it does harm to the environment, but few do something for years to make a difference. However, "Butt Lady" sets an example to all.
The true name of "Butt Lady" is Sally Dawly. She lives in Auburn, a city in California, US.1. because she had spent most of her free time picking up cigarette butts (香烟头) from the streets of her city. After picking up one million cigarette butts in three and a half years, she has set a new goal for herself-two million cigarette butts.
Dawly got tired of going on her walks and seeing cigarette butts everywhere, so in 2014 she started to take action. Armed(装备)with a broom(扫帚), dustpan and a pair of tongs, the anti-littering activist walked down the streets in search of cigarette butts, picked them up and threw them in the trash can. To see how many butts she picks up, the Butt Lady has been using a counting device (装置).2. after picking up as many as 3,000 butts a day. She said she wanted to shout "Come on people. Don't throw your butts.3.."
Dawly knows it's not easy to completely solve her city's cigarette butt littering problem in no time, but she hopes her efforts will help smokers think twice before throwing away butts on the street.4. as she has got more and more supporters in the city.
A. She sometimes felt really bad

Getting electricity has always been a problem for the 173 people living in Nuevo Saposoa, a small village in Peru, South America. However, things went from bad to worse in March 2015 after heavy rains damaged the only power cables in the area. The villagers were forced to use oil lamps, which are not only expensive but also dangerous because of the harmful gases they produce.
Luckily, researchers at the University of Technology (UT) in Lima, Peru heard about their problem and found a wonderful solution. They made a lamp that can be powered by plants and soil, both of which can be easily found in the Amazonian rainforest where the village lies. The lamp takes energy from a plant growing in a wooden box and uses it to light up an LED light bulb.
While that may sound amazing and even impossible, the science behind the ides is quite simple. As plants create their food (using the sun’s energy, water and chemicals from the soil), they also produce waste which they return to the soil. Tiny animals in the soil eat this waste and they produce electrons – the building blocks of electrical energy. The UT team put special sticks inside the soil to capture the energy and keep it in the lamp’s batteries for later use. The researchers say a single charge can power a 50-watt Led light for two hours - enough time for local villagers to get their evening work done.
The university gave ten Plant Lamps to the villagers of Nuevo Saposoa in October 2015. So far, they have been a huge success! Elmer Ramirez, the UT professor who invented the lamp, believes the Plant Lamp could help improve the lives of many people, especially small rainforest communities, 42% of whom have no electricity.
1.What are the problems of oil lamps according to Paragraph 1?
A. They are difficult to use and create pollution
B. They are expensive to buy and easily damaged
C. They are difficult to repair and produce little light
D. They are expensive to use and can be bad for health
2.The electricity made by the Plant Lamp comes from______.
A. plant food B. plant waste
C. the soil’s heat D. the sun’s energy
3.What is true about the Plant Lamp?
A. It can be made by local people
B. It is much easier to use than oil lamps
C. It can produce all the electricity the village need
D. The things it needs to make electricity are easy to find
4.The Plant Lamp’s inventor believes it could be most helpful for _________.
A. rainforest communities B. cars
C. poor people in cities D. farmers
5. What is the purpose of the passage?
A. To report on a new invention
B. To explain a new scientific theory
