The best holiday of my life was two years ago. My parents, my aunt and uncle, my three cousins and I all went to India together. We spent two weeks traveling around and we visited many interesting places. The night before we left for India, I was so excited that I could not sleep. Our plane left at 1 p.m. and it took nearly six hours to fly to New Delhi. It was raining when we arrived. We were all very tired so we went straight to our hotel.
The next day, we went on a sightseeing tour. I took lots of photos and we all bought souvenirs at the markets. I learned that there is also a place called Delhi which is the oldest part of the city.
On the third day of our trip, we went to a place called Jaipur. At Jaipur we visited the Palace Museum and rode elephants. The elephant I rode was so big that I almost fell off. While my cousins and I were riding elephants, our parents went to look at the pink buildings that Jaipur is famous for.
Some people think that all Indian food is very spicy. But there are some dishes that are not spicy at all. My favourite dish is chicken. It is delicious. It tastes a little bit sweet. We ate rice every day, just like at home.
India is so big that it is impossible to see all of it in one trip. I hope that I can visit it again some day.

Two years ago my grandmother was going to turn 75. My family discussed what the best way to celebrate was. Should we throw her a party? Should we take her on a trip? We remembered that she had touched so many people's lives, and there were so many people for her to consider. Then someone got the idea that we should include everyone in the celebration by turning it into a tribute(献礼) to my grandmother .m
We secretly sent out letters to the people in Grandmother's address book and asked them to send a letter with a memory that they had shared with her. People sent us letters with poems, stories and pictures. The deep feeling that was shared through the response (回应) surprised us. We compiled(编辑)these letters into a memory book and amazed her with it on the morning of her birthday.
The unusual thing about my grandmother's friends was not the number that she had, but the connection they shared. In many ways this book of friendship was the greatest achievement of my grandmother's life.
I believe that developing true friendships is one of the most important things that anyone can do in one's lifetime. It is not a matter of the number of friends one has, but the quality of the bonds. If one has had at least one true friendship before dying, then one can say one has lived a successful life. I have made many friends and I believe I have begun to develop the same types of friendships my grandmother kept up over her lifetime. I only hope that I will be as successful as she has been.

Fifty years ago I had a young family of three boys. My husband Johnny and I left them with a friend while we made a trip to the cinema.
It was dark and was raining hard. With the headlights shining on the road, we saw something ahead of us. Johnny pulled to a stop and I came out, ran to the grass and grabbed a small, wet, frightened creature. It was freezing cold and so tiny that it fit into the palm of my hand but I still wasn’t sure what it was. It stayed close to me for warmth and comfort. I wrapped it safely in my woolen hat and suggested that my husband turn back and go home. We thought it was a baby rabbit because it had long ears, long hind legs and was greyish brown in color. Once home, we filled a box with old newspaper and a warm towel. We fed it milk and bread and hoped it would survive. We named our new animal Bobsy. We all loved it at first sight.
Our boys were happy with the little animal and it seemed to enjoy all the attention. Sadly though, on the third day with us, it caught its back foot in a door and we quickly realized it was broken. We rushed to the vet, who said, “It’s only a rabbit, I’ll put it to sleep.” Our response was a very decisive, “No way!”
We found another vet and were told that she was a baby hare. We were told we should continue to keep her in her box for a week and her foot would be fine.
After her recovery, Bobsy learned to use the kitty litter tray. She would comb her long ears with her front paws. Her favourite treats were chocolate drops and she was so smart that she would help herself to them straight from the packet. The local paper heard about this and came to our house to take her photo and write a story about her. We had her for seven wonderful years before we moved to New Zealand and we will never forget her.

Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. To pollute means to make things dirty. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it.
Man has been polluting the earth. The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people. When the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, man could move to another place. But this is no longer true. Man is now slowly polluting the whole world.
Air pollution is still the most serious. It's bad for all living things in the world, but it is not the only one kind of pollution. Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us angry more easily.
Many countries are making rules to fight against pollution. They stop people from burning coal(煤) in houses and factories, and from putting dirty smoke into the air. Pollution by SO2 is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic. It is sure that if there are fewer people driving, there will be less air pollution.
The earth is our home. We must take care of it. That means keeping the land, water and air clean.
1.Is our life much easier than it was hundreds of years ago ?

2.Why was the pollution not serious many years ago?

One afternoon, many years ago, I went to pick up my mother from work. I got there a little early so I stopped the car by the roadside and waited for her.
As I looked out of the car window, there was a small park where I saw a little boy, around two years old ,running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance. The boy had a big smile on his face as if he had just been set free from some sort of prison(监狱).The boy would then fall to the grass, get up and without looking back at his mother, still with a smile on his face.
At that moment ,I thought to myself, “Why can’t most adults this way?” Most adults, when they fall down, they would be so embarrassed that they would not try again if someone saw them fall. They would end up too afraid to try again for fear of failure.
Kids, when they fall down, they don’t consider their falling down as failure, instead, they treat it as a learning experience. They try and try again until they succeed. While I was touched by the boy's persistence, I was also touched by the manner in which he did. I learned a lot from that and have successfully brought that lesson with me in my many pursuits(追求) in life.
1.What did the boy’s mother do when the boy was running freely on the grass?
2. How would adults feel when someone saw them fall?
3. What do kids often treat their falling down as?
4.What was the writer deeply impressed by?
5.What do you think failure is?(请自拟一句话作答)
